10% is a standard discount on Macs at most Apple retailers nowadays; even the retail Apple Stores are generally willing to give 10% off if you ask.

    • They refuse to give 10% off on 1649 before they call their head office. However the sales person is very nice and helpful

    • Usually not standard practice, unless nearby competitor is offering the same deal.

Working at the Apple retail store before, we have to consistently request permission from managers on the floor for any discount.

I attempted to get a price match at the Apple Store in Sydney last weekend with Megabuy's offer (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93370). I mentioned that an Apple Authorised Reseller (without mentioning Megabuy) had a deal for ~20% off on Retina MacBook Pros, and the employee immediately offered me 10% off without me even having to show her the ad. After I showed her the ad (on my own iPad, since megabuy.com.au was blocked on the in-store computers for some reason), she went and checked with a manager about any further discount but the manager was unwilling to discount it beyond 10%.

So, not sure if it's standard practice or not, but in my experience on the weekend the employee seemed to be empowered to give 10% off on the spot. :)

      • Do you know if I can get 10% off Mac Mini as well?

  • I ordered two iMacs for friends this week at jb hifi, he gave me 10% off when i asked for it,

Apparently a memo went out saying they aren't allowed to give 10% off anymore but he gave it to me anyway

bcoz he gets commissions for every sales ;-)

    • Which JB did you do this at? Guy I spoke to was only able to do 5% :(

    no GST on this one?

    • Yeah, kinda odd that it says $0 for GST for a bricks-and-mortar store. One might have issues claiming anything back from the Tourist Refund Scheme with no GST listed.

Is it even legal to bill ex GST while item is on this side of the customs. Only few items which are exempted from GST can be billed ex GST. correct me if I am wrong.

        • +2

          It's not legal.

Spewing, great price, considering it came down today. I bought my 13" retina from Dick smith with their 10% off 3 weeks ago, cost me $1709, anyone know if Dick Smith has a pricing policy about issues like that, because right now the same model sells for $1649, I know its only $60, but I feel pretty ripped off considering I orignially thought I got a good reasonable deal with 10% off

Have a look at 28 Degrees Mastercard with Shopper's Protection for purchases like that in future.

      • Thanks mate, great OzBargain Tip, Ill make all major purchases using this card. I applied last night.

can still see your phone number mate…. might want to see if you have another screwdriver bit lying around.

  • Bought the same model less than two weeks ago at education pricing, still pretty shattered its come down so recently.

  • Haha… love the screwdriver bits.

  • I guess it's "impolite" to as for Spec's for Apple products…?!?

    Or… my continuing Question:

    • How much of that 128 GB SSD secondary storage space would be available, ie, after one has loaded the Operating System & any / all included Software into this model?

    TIA

  • Those prepared to endure the "noise" of a 5400 RPM hard drive
can enjoy the increased CPU power of an i7, for -same- price:

    From Apple Store (…/au):

    " 13-inch: 2.9GHz
    2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    750GB 5400-rpm hard drive
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Built-in battery (7 hours)

    In Stock - Free Shipping - A$ 1,649.00"

    Deduct TGG's 10% discount & pay A$1,484

So, what's the display trade-off, here?
    (I doubt there's a Retina Display here.)

Q-1: For what is a Retina Display -really- needed,
ie, besides being able to say "…and it's
got it a Retina Display" to all who care…?

Q-2: How can battery [charge] last 7 hours, ie,
for -either- SSD -or- hard drive storage…?

anyone who is interested, I can sell the good guys gift card at 10% discount.

  • Friend went to JB (which have the rMBP 13 for $1649) and asked if he could get 10% off, got told no. Showed the receipt that someone else was able to get it for that price, said no because it's from QLD.

    • Forget JB just goto the Apple store and ask for the 10% off. Much easier and they won't charge u a credit card surcharge either.
