Flights Sydney to London Via KL - June/July 2013 from $1389 Return

240

Inspired by JoeIT's post - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/87343, I decided to try searching for cheap multi-city flights on Kayak.

Etihad seem to be extremely cheap compared to all the other airlines, and I couldn't find the same deal via the Etihad website:
KUL - LHR, Monday 24th June (via Abu Dhabi)
LHR - SYD, Thursday 18th July (via Abu Dhabi)
$1060 (708GBP) return - via eBookers

Combine this with Air Asia's current 'Chinese New Year deal' (expires 17th Feb):
SYD - KUL, Sunday 23rd June
$329 one-way

Total $1389 per person inc. taxes

I booked yesterday and managed to get myself, wife and child to the UK and back peak-season for just over $4000. Too good not to share. We have decided to stay in KL for one night as I don't trust Air Asia to get us there in time for the connecting flight which is a three hour gap but the more adventurous can give it a go.

  • We did a similar thing just before Christmas last year. PER-KUL return with AirAsia, then KUL-LHR, CDG-KUL with Malaysia Airlines. All up under $6000 for a family of four return during peak Christmas season.

Good find, hopefully other people will find it useful.

Does Etihad's KUL-LHR stop somewhere else in between, though?

More than likely in Abu Dhabi…

  • In KL you will have to transfer from the low cost terminal (LLCT) to the real airport which I think is not free and can take some time.

    • Apparently they are opening a new terminal in KL soon (before my flights) that is adjacent to the main terminal - http://www.budgetairlineguide.com/news/559/kuala-lumpurs-new…

    • take no more than 30 minutes. taxi shouldnt cost more than $15

    • I hate the LCC terminal. So busy noisy and the bus ride between terminals is the most riskiest thing I've done in my life. Rather pay the few hundred extra sorry and go via Singapore or Hong Kong

      • you are right. the bus terminal in front of the lcc terminal seems very dodgy.

        • I've used the bus services from the lcc terminal countless of times, they are far from dodgy. They are more than happy to assist you and are helpful in loading your luggage and taking them out for you.

However if you are wanting to go between KLIA and LCCT, i would recommend just taking a taxi if you are short on time as the bus service which commutes between these two terminals takes quite some time before departing.

          Price Reference:
Taxi From LCCT to KLIA or vice versa is about RM15
Bus From KLIA to LCCT or vice versa is RM1.50

  • That's great. I would have preferred Malaysia Air as I've heard their better if you have kids.

Yes the Etihad flights fly via Abu Dhabi (edited, thanks). We have to get off the plane for three hours but it should break up the journey a little.

  • It is only good if you have lots of time to be wasted for transfering and no baggage to claim.

only thing you dont need to pay is toilet with Airasia.

And why do you need to buy anything else? Entertainment on all airlines is mostly B grade movies and a couple "latest release" movies been out for months. Food? No thanks, I always bring my own healthy meals that I know what went into them rather than the crap they serve on the plane.

        • although airasia food cost extra, but I think the food taste a lot better than lots of airlines

      • That's fine, I can still travel cheaper than a full service airline with a meal of my choosing, a bulkhead or emergency row seat (I'm tall) in a section that is off limits to screaming little s**ts, and I only pack carry on anyway.

  • Bloody good deal, thanks mate.

  • Whats the equivalent flight Mel-KL-Lon cost via MAS or Emirates?

    • Cheapest I can find for that route on the same dates as listed is $2169 (1449GBP) with Emirates and $2456 (1641GBP) with Malaysia.

You can go KUL-LHR-MEL for $1540 with MAS if you're willing to fly Air Asia to KL for $419 MEL-KL.

      • Yeh that saving seems significant. I'm travelling early April returning 1 June and it seems flying MAS the whole way is about $1790 AUD.

  • A terrific find !, I can't beat this price with my usual route…

Etihad is as good as Emirates in this leg you've chosen…

  • twitch that is incredibly cheap, and extremely tempting considering I was tossing around the idea of visiting London around that time.

  • Poor people like this routing!
