Sorry I'm late to the party. Is there any left at $20? If not, that's cool. Hope the rest of you guys enjoy your PVRs :)

    • Did you check the product link? $20 deal expired. Product still available but price now back to $49 shipped.

  • This maybe a stupid question but can you record from your xbox onto the PVR? and if so how?

    • It's not a stupid question if you're talking about a pvr with a/v inputs, which this doesn't have. There are models from the likes of Topfield, Beyonwiz and Strong that do - but they cost a hell of alot more than twenty bucks.

      1. Take Xbox down to (insert local TV station) *
      2. Bribe some "tape" monkey to broadcast your favourite home "family" movies, preferably in the dead of night and with no adverts. (hey..you don't ask you don't get).
      3. Race home and schedule the record.
      4. Hope that no one else is watching, especially Auntie Molly who caught you both out at the last Xmas dinner in the gazebo at midnight.
      • alternatively, wait for Alan Bond to buy Channel Nine again then buy it back for next to nothing (Ozbargain style!) when it goes broke.. Oh hang on..they are broke.

Canceled my 3 orders you completely screwed up last friday BECAUSE OF CONSTANT LIES AND HAVING TO CHASE YOU UP ABOUT THE ORDERS… i have SENT YOU MESSAGES notified you and NOW have proceeded to PayPal refund…… REFUND ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldnt care less about who stole from your company or you lost orders or got servers slammed… i just dont care ok ….REFUND MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT AND WE CAN PART THIS RELATIONSHIP
HERE IS ANOTHER COMPANY THAT HAS NO CLUE ABOUT HAVING STOCK BEFORE HAVING A SALE .. REFUND ME TODAY $60
ORDER NUMBER 100009010 PLUS THE 1ST ONE YOU LOST $60

    • I'm gonna give this person the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sure the Rep will eventually chime in with his version of events (after which we can all play judge).

      • my experience of JungleJumble customer service has been terrible… so I wouldn't doubt that SupaRooter has had a bad experience. However, if it was just delayed delivery of order, well that should have been expected. It doesn't sound like that's the only problem here though.

  • +5

chill out mate. With that sort of attitude I wouldn't want you as a customer. The seller already mentioned that he had stock arriving. I got mine today after a slight delay. Big deal. It's a $20 purchase, not a house!! I'm sure there's bigger issues out there than your set top box being a little delayed. He's probably making $2 profit (if that). Not worth his aggravation dealing with buyers like you.

  • -5

Not worth his aggravation dealing with buyers like you
Thats so true SO WHY DONT THEY JUST REFUND ME!!
This is the 4th item i have bought off Ozbargain recently and they all have gone pair shaped.
I will shop from locally sourced products from now on… this country is getting worse..and thats sad for all of us…

    • +4

4 items gone pearshaped may indicate an issue with you.

PS: Just setup mine. Works beautifully.

  • Received mine this morning

  • The only very minor issue is the 'time' on the info banner is missing the last digit. e.g 14:25 shows as 14:2
Not a huge deal but I'm chasing up the importer to see if there's any recourse.

  • Received mine today, set it up and recording function seems fine.
One thing, Loop out cable will pass through RF signal to other devices, even when unit is in standby.
I press the power button on the remove it turns the unit off.
I press the Standby button on the machine it do nothing.
Not sure have anyone tried this yet.

(just want to save a little bit power while not using the PVR, even it's only 8W per website, <15W per manual. also save the trouble to start both TV and PVR everytime to watch TV)

    • Did you say that RF signal will pass through the loop even when on standby? My doesn't. I have to turn it on.

  • Hi rep, I called last Tuesday and I was told that I would receive an email that day stating the 3 units i purchased would finaly be delivered on thursday. Its tuesday the following week, no email to say it has been sent, no items delivered, any Ideas why this purchase it dragging on after my phone call?
Getting a bit tired of waiting! considering i havent even got the email to say its sent!

  • +1

Since the rep has already explained enough, for me, I don't mind waiting a bit for them to sort themselves out.

  • +4

Also I don't understand the impatience. The seller is using a COURIER service that delivers within a day. If it had been Auspost you would have had to wait up to a week anyway. It's $20 FFS, anyone who's whinging should get over themselves.

    21-02-2013 - Ordered via paypal on 21-02-2013
25-02-2013 - Spoke to Michael @ JungleJumble (he said they are hoping to mail it out within the week)
05-03-2013 - Got an email saying item despatched
Waiting for item to turn up.

I am not sure why there's people whinging so much.

If you think about it, there's 3 people trying to send out 900 items or so plus probably trying to run their normal business and whatever else.
A bit of patience would go a long way in this situation.

Or you could walk into places like Hardly Normal and buy a similar product for twice the price if you need it right away ?

    • My confirmation email ("posted…") was sent Friday so, if interstate, should receive by 2nd business day.
Mine magically sprouted like a mushroom and I received two packages instead of one. Email sent…

      • Again, Consider it a late Christmas gift. Thanks for your honesty though.

  • hmmm received my order today. DUPLICATED.
Email sent. May buy if I can offload to a relative, otherwise back it goes.

    Anyone in ACT need one?

    • +1

Don't worry about it - this had something to do with Mike not realising the customer accounts and orders were not necessarily linked, then creating a new order. Just keep it. Merry belated Christmas.

  • Great product - great price - effective delivery (although I personally wouldn't use CouriersPlease). Thanks go to rep. for posting. I have no idea what all the earlier rage has been about. Would definitely deal with JungleJumble again.

    • Got mine today, haven't opened it the STB yet but playing around with the Olin voice recorder. Was missing one of the three voice recorders I ordered, but I called and Mary was quite pleasant about fixing it up.

Curious about your comment about Couriers Please, I found them terrible as well…

  • +2

Mine arrived — pretty happy except I can't figure out how to timeshift? Pushing pause while watching live tv does nothing?

  • Received mine today too. Short cables meant a reshuffle of my desk. Seems to be a hissing noise when on standby. Also still trying to work out the full use of the PVR, being used to Foxtel IQ2 and all. Oh, and also, I tried an MKV file but it didn't work, possibly due to the audio format?

    • This does not look promising as I definitely want to play mkv files. Maybe the manufaturer's specs were correct but junglejumble got it wrong? Anyone else has tested mkv files? I am still waiting for mine.

      • I've seen many devices say they're mkv capable, but doesn't play them properly / at all. I've only tried one file so far.

      • MKV's do work - It is possible that the audio codec in that MKV isnt supported, however if you plug the unit into an amp which has DTS decoder - audio should work fine. I have 100% tested MKV's and all the ones i threw at it worked fine.

        • I don't doubt for a second that it's the audio, but how many people have an amp with a DTS decoder lying around?

        • So are you getting vision only and no audio?

          try using media info
          http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
so you can tell us the details on the file?

        • No, the video doesn't play at all

        • are you able to give us more info about the mkv file/files?

        • I believe it's AC3 (audio)

        • AC3 is a little less common… e.g. quicktime on a mac does not support AC3. AAC or MP3 encoded audio should work.

        • AC-3 is Dolby Digital. Why is it less common? And Ac-3 works on this device.

  • called them today, waited like 2 seconds, got through very quickly, those who ordered more than 1 unit are expected to get theres soon, they're waiting on the scatchels to arrived and are being sent off today/tmo. pretty happy with what they provided so far, fingers crossed i get the units this week

  • Hi Folks, thanks for your patience and understanding over the past few weeks. As many of you know, we've been shipping non stop since last Wednesday. We're still yet to get the orders for multiple units out - some left today in NSW- the rest will leave tomorrow. Again order priority has been given to the single units, then single units with voice recorders which should all be on their way. - Doubles, tripples etc are all leaving tomorrow if they haven't already.

    • Did an email go out with the one + voice rec units so I know to expect mine? Or shall I just expect it?

    • I ordered one + voice recorder. I am in Victoria. Hopefully I will get it today or tomorrow.

  • Ok, I've tried it as a PVR, it seems to record with a 'squashed' aspect ratio although I have it on 16:9. I've trie don multiple channels and looked through the menu comprehensively.

  • I haven't received mine yet but my excitement has died down a bit after reading that timeshift doesn't quite work and PVR recording in odd aspect ratio..

    • A cheap HDSTB I had, required a USB thumbdrive plugged in, so there was somewhere to record the timshifted video. That could be why.

Still waiting for mine as well. But the Eneelops I ordered from another deal eventually arrived. So I expect this will too.

      • +1

Nope, I had a USB drive plugged in… I also thought that it might be that you had be recording something to be able to time shift, but when recording the player prevents you from doing anything else?

  • +1

My order got returned to JungleJumble as undeliverable.

They just called me to tell me I had to change my shipping address from PO Box to a residential or business address so they can reship it again. As the courier was unable to deliver to a PO Box. Even though the JungleJumble web site shows they can deliver to any address including PO Box. They said this was due to the cheapest shipping method they were using for this deal.

    • Just a general thought - what happens if an item is too big to fit in the PO box? Will the PO leave a card in your box for you to collect from them during opening hours? Is that how it works?

      • Yes if the courier is able to deliver to a PO Box

        • We have around 15 units returned here by CP because of PO box address's. Generally CP call us and ask for a fixed address before they return them. We'll be calling those customers who's units have been returned tomorrow to ask for fixed addresses.

  • My unit doesn't work properly. When I turn it on, it just has the led lights on, sometimes just the red, sometimes both the red and green (no output). Had to constantly turn it on and off until there's output. Got it working once but now it's not working again. What should I do?

    • contact junglejumble via the phone tomorrow

  • +1

Got mine today. MKVs with DTS audio won't play sound. One with AC3 codec worked fine. This means that MKVs with DTS audio need to be converted in order to play on this device.

  • they sent my order(a single unit) out yesterday :-( I order my one on the 21 I might get it early to mid next week.

They told me it was the courier company's fault

  • Couriers-Please left me notice they had called while I was out but still no tracking number. Got on their site and gave permission to leave but don't know what will happen next. No TN doesn't help, but card was bar-coded so used that # instead.

  • +12

Got my 5 units today. Tested one and it works very well for a cheapie.

Ripped it apart to see if I could install a 2.5" HDD inside and there's plenty of space so I'll make up a small switching circuit on the weekend so when the unit is OFF I can connect the box to a PC and transfer data to/from the internal HDD but when the unit is ON the USB port will be disabled and it will just play from the internal drive. Easy! I'm doing this because I want to give these units to my neighbours who are VERY non Tech savvy and who rely on me for all their digital media needs and extra cables & boxes freak them out.

In case others are interested here's a pic of the insides: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w159/SteveAndBelle/BergeB… and here's another pic with a 2.5" 500Gb HDD & USB interface board installed: http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w159/SteveAndBelle/BergeB…

If anyone else wants to do something similar and would like to know how then please give this comment a greenie so I can get some idea of the interest. If I get a heap of interest then I'll post up the instructions OK. Definitely not rocket science and should only need some very basic components & soldering skills. Extra heat buildup from the HDD may be an issue but I'll soak test the mod and see if it can handle it. The mod should easily be reversible too.

    • Great idea. I have a few old HDD's lying around. It will only take a 2.5" one though?

      • yes as you need power for a 3.5

      • +1

I just tested to see if a 3.5" would physically fit ("I like to move it move it") and it does but only just… plus you'll need to figure out how to power it plus it'll get a lot hotter than a 2.5" drive too. The internal Power Supply does have a 12V rail so you could possibly get this working BUT to be honest I doubt the power supply would handle spinning a 3.5" HDD up.

Possible? Of course… but far too much hassle IMO.

        • zing!!

    • I gave you a greenie. Sounds like a fun mod.

    • "when the unit is OFF I can connect the box to a PC and transfer data to/from the internal HDD but when the unit is ON the USB port will be disabled and it will just play from the internal drive."

Can't wait to see you final product.

    • Yes please… Well, if I ever receive my unit that is. ;-p

  • couriers please delivered mine on monday but no one was around.. so yeah they left a card with no details but a barcode.. I organised it to be re-delivered today in the afternoon.. i'm still waiting and i have to leave in a little over an hour………..

  • Got mine finally today after they resent due to not accepting a PO Box as delivery address. Have just pluged it in and did a channel scan. Noticed that one corner of the RF out was bent inwards. Not going to worry since it doesn't seem to affect the use of the RF out connector. I will do a full test, record and media compatibility playback over the weekend.

Just a quick question. When recording using an NTFS hard drive does the system record in one big files or several smaller files with seamless playback as if a fat32 drive was installed?

  • Got mine. It exceeded my expectations for $20
Customer service was excellent at Jungle Jumble.
I bought a 32gb Transcend Flash Stick for it and it works great.

  • Recieved mine with a pair of rusty batteries already in the remote, which does not work. I have sent an email, a few days ago but no reply. I understand you had hundreds of units and could not possibly check them before dispatch, but would appreciate a response as to how to get a replacement. Apart from that it is a pretty good product for the price.

    • have you tried putting new batteries in?

  • Yes, took the rusty ones out, then tried the ones supplied and then some fresh ones straight out of the package, also removed the rust from the metal elements inside the remote control. It's kaput.

  • I suggest that with the battery acid affected remote, is to scrape the contacts till they look silvery, not shiny rust colour. Then spray the contacts with a contact spray or lubricant contact cleaner to stop further corrosion and you might end up with a handy second remote, as long as the acid did not reach the circuit board!!!! If you are handy enough you might be able to take it apart by gently prying apart the remote edges after removing the screws and then cut short the old ones or unsolder and remove the old rusty contacts and take the spring contacts out of a no longer needed remote and solder them in to the needed remote. Make shore they are a good fit first and the positive & negative contacts are still the right way around!!! There are a lot of cheap remotes around with very similar casings.

  • Also if you have handy two pairs of pointy nose pliers you could reshape the remote replacement contacts out of an old remote or out of a similar wire you might have floating around!! Make shore that there is a good spring pressure on the battery ends as they will eventually loose contact and you will have no power to the remote. As the batteries get low on power spin/twist the batteries in the compartment from time to time to make a better contact as the contacts loose there shine and build up a resistance like a car battery contacts. Apply a contact cleaner to a cotton bud and rub the contacts clean one a while if it gets a lot of use!! If you have to unsolder the terminals don't over heat the circuit board and put most of the heat in to the wire not the board as the printed circuit will be destroyed and will come off the board!! You can suck up the excess solder with freshly striped fine stranded copper wire. Use a minimum of solder to solder the terminals back in, then add an additional solder or more for extra strength.
    Good luck

  • Good suggestion WD TV and SOUND however poor cracyperpman bought his crap unit as a brand new so he/she shouldn't be fixing anything in first place. lack of support from the seller is just unbelievable.

  • +2

Anyone tried recording? It seems to record in low quality and a different aspect ratio.

  • anyone still waiting?

    • I still am in Perth. Sure, it's only $20 delivered, but I can get things off eBay for a dollar that arrive quicker.

Not doing much for the image of the company in my mind. Definitely won't be ordering from them again after this.

      • I got a Australian post tracking number from them so no courier company for me.

"You need to allow for standard Australia Post delivery times from the 7th. Unfortunately because we needed to process your order through Australia Post - your order was processed later than everyone elses."

        • Have you received yours yet? Still nothing at all for me, this is bloody ridiculous.

  • Hooked mine up tonight and it works well.

recorded a few things onto a 4gb thumb drive all good.

looking at getting a dedicated external hard drive.

Is there there some sort of list of which ones work / Don't work?

been looking at the Buffalo ones?

    • Unfortunately not. It's difficult to get the power draw off the side of a box of a 2.5" HDD. Office works do have a pretty good return policy though :)

  • Well I received mine today and I'm pretty disappointed. Yes it's $20 but not all the features work.
    - no audio on many mkv files (although there is when played on my 2 year old Samsung plasma TV).
    - yes RF signal passes through the loop out cable on standby but it's very much weaker than the signal from the wall, definitely insufficient to watch ABC 2, SBS 3 and Channel 7. No point running the device just to have signal pass through. It should work on standby.
    - timeshift doesn't work.

Despite the above, recording worked well and did not have aspect ratio issues. Hence I'm pretty much paying $20 for a PVR unit that will require manual plugging in of RF cable before recording. Media player function is pretty much useless if I can't rely on audio functioning properly.

    • — If your mkv files have DTS audio track it will not play. Try other audio tracks. AC-3 works on mine
      — mine has the same issue with RF pass through. Signals are very week on some channels.

      • -2

As stated a long time ago. Please check my previous posts - on day one. Plug your unit into a device which has a DTS decoder. IE modern amplifier - audio should play OK. See what happens when you use a spliter instead of the antenna output - Typically signal strength is halfed when you split a signal. I'd be suprised if the spliter gave you a better result.

Kingray SA162F or SA164F is the product you need if you want to maintain the Antenna signal to multiple devices - and that costs minimum $39 ex delivery - I do believe we are the cheapest.

PS. that goes for ALL situations where a signal is split between multiple devices - unless the gain from the output is > than 5dB.

  • Guys keep in mind this is a $10 device. Not $20. Can't expect everything. Having said that, I haven't had any recording/signal etc issues.

    • +1

OK yes, a $10 device. But the deal is that with $10 the device should have all the stated features working properly. That was the basis of my purchase. Some people buy it for a specific feature (eg. PVR or media player) so without this working it is not even worth $1.

      • Send it back for a refund.

  • +4

Here are my findings after testing this set top box.

Tested: 2.5" Toshiba 1tb USB3 portable hard drive NTFS format. Works perfectly.

    1) aspect ratio not working correctly for PVR.
    USB > Movie Configuration

Aspect Ratio Discard (everything plays back at system setting 16:9 or 4:3)
Aspect Ratio Keep (movies playback correct aspect ratio, PVR recordings play back at 4:3)

Aspect ratio is recorded and displayed correctly when playback is performed on another device.

    2) Recall not working correctly when browsing folders. Does not move back up one folder level. Instead jumps back to top root folder on usb device.

    3) Hard drive does power down when STB is in standby mode.

    4) EPG only display one day and channel at one time. you need to use the remote to jump to the next and previous day.

    5) When recording, big record icon displayed in top left corner can not be removed.

    6) Auto time incorrect. Shows 1 hour ahead of correct time. Need to set manual for correct time to be displayed.

Didn't try any audio as I didn't have audio cable connected. But I assume the supported media playback formats are the same as the Highlander I have which has a similar interface but no NTFS support.

Wondering if anybody has a later firmware version installed or if thereis a firmware update for these boxes to fix the PVR aspect ratio playback problem that a few people have already pointed out. Otherwise will contact support and see if they have any updates to fix this.

    Model: BPVR-1000
    SW Version: BPVR-1000 v1.10
    HW version: 5007.2838.1
    Release Date: Jun 25 2010

    • Thanks for advice on PVR aspect ratio issue

  • My findings are pretty much the same as g12345567. Firmware is the same and I also had to manually set my timezone to get the correct time. My unit is connected through hdmi to an older dvi tv via an adapter. Picture quality is good. Sound is connected to an amp.

When programming to record something through epg make sure that in "event add" the mode (last on the list) is set to "record" and not to "view" as it is by default. Otherwise timeshift record wont' work.
Overall I'm very happy with this unit.

    • I emailed Westwell to see if they have a firmware update to fix PVR playback aspect ratio and auto timezone problems. Hopefully I'll get a replay. If not calling them might be the only option.

      • Hmm Berge…. I doubt you'll get a response. If you do, please let us know. They do have a number of smart cookies in their company, however this box was created before most of them worked for the company.

  • I don't even know if Westwell exists. Their website was updated in 2010!! I emailed them long time ago - no response. I called them, went to recorded message.
No big issue but just wanted to see if there's a firmware upgrade as the TIME on the screen only displays 3 characters. e.g 13:2 for 13:28

    • Missed that. Hopefully someone or JungleJumble can help out on this one. HW version 5007.2838.1 seems to be used in several different STB brands including AKAI which has had some of these problems addressed in firmware updates according to what I have read on other forums

    • Westwell exists. However there are no Firmware updates for this box. - You may find compatible firmware for olin boxes however - which ones- you're just going to have to try them and experiment.

      • Can you provide some advice on how the timeshift function works? If its not going to work as advertised, then I would like to return the device.

        • Have you tried pressing Pause? If that doesnt work Perhaps press record - then Pause?

        • Neither option works. I have tried many things unsuccessfully.

        • It was worth it for the voice recorders which I had a purpose for. However it still would have been nice for the STB functions to work. I emailed JJ a few days ago asking if they'd consider attempting to update the firmware (considering they have dozens of them and they must've cost peanuts). No reply as yet.

        • I doubt it. I emailed JJ a while back and never got a reply. Techincal support from Westwell was also useless. Just telling me to change a few settings.

Does this set top box actually support Timeshift? I can't seem to find any reference to timeshift written in the manual or the box. Only what JJ posted in the product description above.

This STB is good. If only they could fix all the reported problems.

          Incorrect ASPECT RATIO:
          KEEP:
          Video playback Correct aspect radio
PVR: All videos squashed to 4:3 box

          DISCARD:
Video: all video stretched to 16:9
PVR: Playback in correct aspect ratio

Recall not moving back one level in file browser. Rather jumps back to root folder.

Auto Timezone does not display correct time it is 1 hour ahead of current time when setting DST on and in use or Off when DST is not in use.

Time missing last digit in info display box.

      • These boxes were cheap for a reason. Limited technical support, No firmware updates to fix various problems. As you said it may be possible to cross flash to firmware from a different model STB using the same hardware version, but without an original firmware to fall back on if doing this does not work for any reason. These look like rebadged olin boxes since the startup logo uses exactly the same picture.

It may also require using a programmable universal since remote codes may be different on other boxes using this software.

  • ordered 23/02/2013..
got shipping email on thursday 07/03/2013
I am in perth, still waiting for mine.. would love for it to arrive today??

parents eagerly waiting for me to come around to put it in as soon as it arrives!!!…

    • They sent them via Australia post, contact them they will be able to give you a tracking number, I am sorry but I don't think you will get it today. I ordered it on the 21/02/2013 and I am in the same boat.
This is what I was told by a rep

"There are a number of reasons your order was delayed.
      Firstly you're in WA
Second you're in remote WA (Port Kennedy)
Third you're 6 days freight away
Fourth we had to pack 900 orders over 2 weeks"

"So should be there Thursday or Friday."
