  • Has anyone bought these before? Curious to know what the quality is like.

    • I tried these at $1.50 last time.
Colors are horrible, some strange purple cast on the photo. I guess the (lack of) calibration varies store to store.
Mine were also trimmed so that there was a slanted white border on 2 edges. Ie you have to re-trim yourself.

I have 10 of these on my wall and about another dozen or so in my cupboard. Im happy with the printing quality, no gripes at all. One printed shoddily but the staff were more than happy to reprint it for me when they noticed it handing me the bag.

Yeah, I got the 12"x18" for the same price a few months ago.

The quality is great - I printed off a few snaps to hang on the wall. Still lying flat behind a cabinet because frames are ridiculously expensive! haha Come on Ozbargain! Give me some nice frames for cheap! I was stupid though - I probably should have gone for matte, but went with glossy. Consider what you want before you head down there - here's a list of pros and cons of Glossy vs Matte: http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Photography/Photo_Developing…

Yeah with that deal, it was a saving of like $11 a print - pretty substantial for someone like me who printed off a dozen (about $120 saving, costing $36)

They have done this deal twice before with different sizes. I say bring back the 12"x18"!

        Frames are cheap at Ikea.

Here's a $10 aluminium frame (real metal, not just painted plastic):
        http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/50209455/
Available in black, and also in silver (natural aluminium colour).

This frame fits a photo size of 30x40cm, while these 11x14 inch photos are ~28cm by ~35.5cm. You'll have an uneven border unless you trim your photo down to 25.5cm wide, so your photo will be 10x14 inches with a one-inch border all around.

This frame has a glass front, so it makes an excellent whiteboard too, if you put white paper in. Unlike "real" whiteboards which eventually stain, glass never takes a stain. If you will be using this frame as a whiteboard, file down the corners first, they are quite sharp.

        • Cheers for that dude!

Shall definitely check them out next time I'm in the mood for some horsemeat ;D

      • I got the 12"x18" as well. Not bad for $3. Can't complain.

Big W has kinda cheap frames as well.

  • Anyone knows what print system BIGW employ? Specifically, does it support colour profiles with wider gamut than sRGB?

    • +2

      BigW use Fuji machines

  • Same machines as harvey norman, and most 'minilabs' i guess.

You're better off going to a proper printer if you want accurate colour reproduction.

For $3 you really can't complain.

    • I have a friend who was printing off professional photos. The first one didn't come out right, so she tweaked the vibrancy above what her screen was telling her was correct and they printed out perfectly. that $3 test was cheaper than getting it right first time at a pro place by like $50+.

Edit: if it makes a difference, the store was Marion, Adelaide.

  • Can confirm that Big W quality is rubbish, they really need to calibrate their printers, really bad colours and really dark, at $3 can't complain.

I had no problems with my local BIGW … good quality pictures.
I did colour calibrate my monitor with a Spyder4 … this did wonders. And only use sRGB … they would not handle other colour spaces.

  • I had around 20 of these done (at Eastland, VIC) when they were $1 each last year. Print quality was good for me, YMMV. It might vary from store to store.

  • Guess It's a point of trying them out and if the quality is really bad, then refuse to buy it of them

  • I've used Big W (riverton WA) for photo prints before, for enlargements, and have been reasonably happy with the quality. And I'm very very picky. Sure, they're not professional standard but they're close. If you're lucky enough to be near a store with a well set up machine, you'll be happy with the results.

  • I got frames at big w, combo pack of 2 for $6 is pretty good for these prints.

  • Does anyone know if this promotion is still running and when it expires?

  • On their web site there is no mention of this special, but I send them an email to check is this special pricing is still available. I wanted to get large prints of a van Gogh and a Salvatore Dali painting that have about the right aspect ratio.

  • The promo has ended unfortunately; could an op mark this as expired.
