        r you serious?

Silly question, Coles always support aussie farmers.

think again 1$ milk is supporting our farmers?

        • -1

To be fair they pay the farmers the same amount for the milk as they did before it was made $1 a litre, they absorbed the cost themselves.

Not true, though that's what they would like you believe, First hand experience, I have three dairy farmers on speed dial.

        • Quote from the article: "Coles has defended the move, which has caused milk prices to fall about 9c below their previous cheapest offering for a two-litre bottle, arguing it will absorb the losses from the price cut and that recently negotiated price contracts with milk processors had awarded them higher prices."

          Hey Nexus,

          Wrongly researched article,

But obviously having 1$ OWN brand milk is not doing the farmers any good. They are loss leading to killing off all the other non home brand milk companies so they can make their money on coke and other unhealthy shit.

I saw the quote it does say they absorb the cost, but think about it one step further,
what happens when milk is devalued to 1 $ sales drop for all the other milk companies.

Milk as a product is devalued.

Woah… Don't be fooled by Cole's marketing department. I was just down at South-West Victoria and I got a chance to talk to a few people at local TAFE that specialises at agriculture and they were hit HARD by $1 milk.

It's a terrible time for any dairy farmers out there…

        • That's a load of BS. A Queensland dairy farmer may be hit hard by Coles pricing, but not a VIC dairy farmer. That is because 91% of VIC milk is sold and processed into powdered milk. This is primarily shipped overseas. The price the farmer gets is set by global pricing. Yes the high Aussie dollar is hurting them, yes the drop in land values in Western Vic is hurting them, but fresh milk only makes up 9% of sales and the price the Vic farmer gets is set by the global powdered milk price. If the milk processor offers them less money to sell as fresh milk the farmer will sell their product as powdered milk and ship overseas.

        • For people doing it hard, there really is not choice other than the $1 milk

        • Don't believe everything you read, son.

        • The only thing a lot of people here care about is short term thinking and what suits them now. Hence the purchasing of all of these off-shore deals from companies that pay little tax. Long term, the only thing that results is less jobs in Australia and higher prices when there are fewer competitors.

A bargain now does not always lead to a bargain later.

        • dealman…aldi was the first supermarket that sold milk at $1, the rest just followed suit to not lose customers to aldi.

          truth once again.

Valencias are in Australian season right now, and the Navels are imported.

When the Navels are in season here, then the Valencias are imported.

So it's not really a dumb question at all.

        • I'm sure when I saw these last week they said Californian.

        • Valencias are indeed in season right now, and thats why i said its local.

        • i bought 3 bags, all australian.
