  • Not sure what touch screen have to do with this or why anyone would use window 8 without touch screen

    • so people who wants to use windows 8 should either a) buy a new notebook with a touch screen or b) buy a touch screen monitor for their desktop pc?

    • win8 can be used in desktop mode which is basically the same as win7

    • +2

The main reason people would use Windows 8 without a touch screen?

Because PC note/net/ultrabooks come with Windows 8 as standard, and not all notebooks have touch screens.

That said, Windows 8 without a touch screen is annoying. Hell, Windows 8 with a touch screen is annoying.

you are likely gona have to pay tax once it got to custom since its over $1000

    • -1

no you don't. that is, if the dollar stays above 1:1 with US, and you aren't screwed over with the exchange rate.

delivery does not apply. item value only

  • LOl I just asked the same as the guy above!!

  • So the product is under $1000 but with the delivery does that pushes it over the $1000 import limit (i.e. does the $1000 include delivery costs or not)?

If it does then it would be a bit more expensive, the price would be

    ~$999 (from bhpotovideo)
    + $49.95 (5% duty)
    + ~$79.06 (Delivery)
    + $112.80 (GST)
    = ~$1240.80

    • BTW what is the 5%duty?

      • Import duty. Calculation is based on the link..

    • +3

Customs value (used to calculate customs duty) does not include postage/shipping etc, but the value of the taxable importation (used to calculate GST) does include postage/shipping costs.

      • Thanks for clarifying. I couldn't see it on that page I linked to. Do you know where it says that (or am I up to late and just missed it?)

        • It's on the page you linked to. Click on "Calculating duty and taxes" near the top of the page.

      • Australian Customs calculates goods value based on this value of goods plus ALL shipping/handling costs. They then use their OWN exchange rates to calculate the final Australian dollar value. Their exchange rate can be anywhere between 2c to 5c below the advertised rates, depending on the volatility of the Aussie dollar.

  • wow the screen is hi-res. highest i've seen for a laptop this size. this or yoga 13 though.. hmm

    • acer s7 11.6" also 1920x 1080 even higher

      • That thing is insane to use though - I'm squinting the whole time and I'm a 20 year old with good eyes.

        • Hate to break it to you like this… but as a 32 year old with good eyes I feel the need to tell you that you probably need to get your eyes checked.

  • Limited 1-Year North American Warranty (USA, Canada & Mexico)?

  • Only 4gb ram. bummer

    • a

  • Asus build quality isn't what it used to be. In the US my brother had to return two ux32vd to Amazon, the first had a very noisyfan, the second had bad screen bleed. So be wary, my brother got a Vizio at Tue end.

    • I got a UX32VD, read all about the screen bleed issues which were apparently on the first shipment.
Anyway I haven't had any issues with it screen is perfect, build quality is spot on, no issues with the fan.
Only thing is you need to throw a 8gb stick into the dimm, not sure if the UX31 is upgrade-able though.
