What's Domino's big announcement that will change everything?

For some reason today, every ad on OzBargain has been a countdown to a big announcement by Dominos next week. Pretty big claim.

Dominos vending machines? Tweet a pizza delivery? Pizza stuffed in a crust of a pizza?

The cynic in me thinks it's nothing but an advertisement but who knows.

EDIT: LOL at their Facebook page

Horse meat stuffed crust

Davo (edit)

Likely answer has been discovered, Dominos has filed a trademark for "CHEF'S BEST IT'S A GAME CHANGER" (aka premium pizzas)

    • Yea pizzahut still has the old school dine in restaurants, with the all you can eat crap pizza selections. Years ago I saw a pizza that had only corn on it, its not even an ingredient on the menu

  • Domino's restaurant maybe?

    edit: beaten above ^

  • +1

Domino's restaurant? As in being able to eat in the store? Then that's hardly a secret, there are a few stores that you can already do that in.

Pizza Hut's all you can eat restaurant is a failed business model, so no, that's not happening.

    • So it's not a restaurant, not alcohol delivery, not a new logo or rename. Give us a hint. Please say pizza vending machines and put one outside my building.

      • No, no hints.

People are thinking out of the box, when they should be thinking 'in' the box.

        • ok they are gonna loan out heatwave bags so your pizza will remain crispy and fresh longer, because a cold pizza a turn off and those pizza cool down pretty fast. There will be a little label on the bag that say NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PIZZA-HUT PIZZAS BOXES

        • +4

so pizzas that will be topped with sufficient toppings and a full refund if not up to scratch

        • +6

so in other words, it won't be much of a 'big announcement'. Something like new dough?

        • +3

People will get to participate in a free hype-building exercise?

        • +4

          Edible boxes???

      • its hard for him to give hints when hes under a NDA…

        • +1

it looks like he made an account just to tease us

        • +1

I'm pretty sure Detective Fishlips is not their real name. Wonder if he/she is related to fishbum?

    • Aww man Pizza Hut's all you can eat was the best!

  • +1

They're bringing back the original box with the giant domino on it.

    • +1

Ooh I know I know, they're making square pizzas to fit in the box better.

      • +1

        This

      • This makes…. a huge amount of sense

      • +4

        CALLED IT! :D

  • +7

Is this the big announcement they are releasing?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW2D_Votd2Y

    • Ha. Can't see that working anywhere in the world except Japan.

      • I saw it.. from what i could tell they got a guy with dots stuck of him in front of a camera to do the dance move of an animated female manga character. And you would get this content by snapping a bar-code on the box?

I dont think such a thing would work here. Manga fans are like 1% of the population here

      • +1

I'm in Japan at the moment. My friend looked at it and muttered "… Kudaranai."

    • +2

      What the? I'm so confused.

    • Da fuq did I just watch lol…?
I just lol'ed at the part where is says "have fun with Miku!"

  • +2

    make your own pizza!

    • MADNESS!!!! That takes forethought!!

    • MADNESS?? MADNESS? THIS IS DOMINO'S!!!!!!

p.s. they already have "make your own"

  • -1

I'm gonna say its the Oreo Pizza… pulling off some gimmicky crap like KFC.

  • +2

    Different pizza sizes?

    • +2

Wouldn't be worth it unless they went bigger. The pizza is so cheap already I can't imagine there would be much of a market for smaller pizzas

      • +2

They could start introducing American size pizzas. Those bastards have half a meter wide pizzas.

  • +2

We will deliver the pizza to your home within thirty minutes of your order, or else it’s free?

  • Make your own, subway style, seems the new craze in the states.

    • Already available, called changing toppings.

  • +1

I read somewhere they are going to shutdown all stores for 1 hour on Saturday to train staff. So it might be some new equipment for a new menu item.

On Facebook they are offering 100 loyal Dominoes fans to try it out for FREE. Wonder why something FREE didn't interest us more.

    • +4

So this change is so big it requires an entire hour of group training? Woo-eee. This change must be huge!!!

      • +2

Must mean bigger pizza's then, or more topping on what they have.
I can see training being required for that, there will be those workers that have a routine and changing the size will mess with their heads.

  • +9

I hope they're bringing back that triangle plastic thing that used to be in the middle.

    • +7

      the table action figure?

      • +4

        A Barbie coffee table?

        • +1

          table top finger footy post?
          Thumbelina dinner table?
          3 way hotdog holder?
          the suspense is killing me!

  • I'd like to see them have calzones on their menu…mmmm!

  • +1

I think it will be flavored bases… such as passion fruit crunch, mars bar or curry surprise.

    • +2

if you eat their pizza you will definitely get a curry surprise

  • +8
    • +4

So they agree what they are serving now is not their best.

    • +1

So thats it , more bullshit premium priced pizza. Damn, I remember when the dominos here had toppings on it :( Bring back more stuff on the regular pizzas, the dough and sauce jig is old

    • The code 49776 brings up 'Chef's best pizza's' for $8 but obviously doesn't let you make a selection.

      • nice!

    • +1

      Game over.

    • I've bought a pizza from these guys that only had cheese on one third of the pizza and it looked like it had been cut by some dude that was just as likely to cutting the pizza by doing burnouts with his car over the top as he was to be using a pizza cutter.

      • +2

It's not that hard to cut cheese.

  • Domino now has frozen pizza in Coles and Woolies.

    • +13

      I put it there.

      • +1

Did you swap it for a better value, fresher, frozen pizza?

  • +2

It will be six new flavour in retangular size.

  • I was at Dominos today and saw staff wearing new tee-shirts that said "Chef's best pizza's for $8. It's a game changer."
I didn't find it very exciting, but absolutely LMFAO when I checked my email and found an email this morning from Pizza Hut advertising all their "Signature" pizzas on a medium 9" base - for $8 from now until the 17th of March. Kinda takes the wind out of their sails…. lol

  • +4

    here it is:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyets5GYOQ0

Some game changer LOL Limited time only. Heres an idea, how about start putting a decent amount of toppings on the regular pizzas?

    • wow, what a 'big' announcement

    • +1

here's another idea, how about you start paying more for your pizzas? Your get what you pay for!

Got that video in my email just now

    • Check out the dislikes for the video. Hahaha

  • +1

haha I wish I never read about this.

  • dominoes. you know the ad is full scum. probably something small like extra cheese

  • -1

hahaha what a load of crap. stopped going to dominos after they repeatedly served supreme pizza with half the slices only containing cheese and sauce and maybe a piece of onion. total rip off.

  • +4

So the game changer… the biggest announcement in their history was…

    …pizza?

Am I alone in thinking this is an odd bit of marketing?

  • +1

I am of those people who got a delivery of their new range before it was officially release.
Just need to point out that the pizza is much smaller than their regular pizza.
However, for some reason (probably the ingredients), it is actually just as filling as their regular pizza.
The pizzas will not suit everyone's taste, but I personally do think that they are better tasting.
On 3 of the pizzas, there was actually a sizable chunk of camembert cheese on each slice.

If you like the traditional domino's range, this new range might take some time to get used to.

(Honestly, it totally depends on your local store. As everyone know, the standards differ significantly from store to store.)

  • +1

Looks like it wasn't just us that were dissappointed with the game changer. The Age What a fizzler, I want my beer and pizza delivered!

    • +1

      Managing expectations.

If you sell it as a 'game changer', then it had better be that. A smaller pizza with slightly higher quality toppings just illuminates how poor your customer focus is.

On the plus side for dominoes, they've had plenty of free market research here on what people WOULD consider a game changer, and where the (numerous) faults with their product lie.

Now they just need to get muppet manager back for another TV ad "This time we've REALLY listened to what you want, so we're doubling the amount of ingredients at no extra cost, and are delivering beer with your pizza."

  • +2

This is why people who are in marketing should be banished from society.

  • +1

expectations<>reality-those who fail to learn from past mistakes are doomed to repeat those mistakes! http://tinypic.com/r/2427nmf/6

  • I bought the new Meat Lovers pizza today from the game changer range, it actually tasted quite good and I was happy with the quality and quantity of the meat and toppings.

I have not gone to Dominos for a couple of years so I guess this campaign did work to bring me back.

  • I really feel sorry for franchise owners who have to deal with irate customers AND fork out $5000 for the equipment to make this new pizza..

It's something like 5% of every sale a franchise owner has to pay just to the marketing fund, another half goes to Dominos, only for head office to do what, Mod: Foul Language them with a new pizza that has absolutely no demand, hyped up marketing (tens of millions spent on peak hour adverts) etc etc..

Would really be a horrible time to own a store.

    • -3

This whole post is completely incorrect.

      Nice rant though!

      • +2

How about correcting it? Please tell us the way it really is.

  • Same old story…. big cardboard box and a measly little pizza inside with minimum topping.
    Freakin rip off.

    • I wouldn't exactly call Domino's a rip off. Regardless of whether you like the pizza or not, you get a pretty damn big pizza and a whole lot of calories for very little money.

      • Maybe your local dominos hasn't downsized the circumference of the pizza and applied the 1 topping per square inch rule yet?

        • Can you tell me where I can get a larger pizza than Domino's for $7 then?

        • A full price dominos pizza is more than $7.

        • +6

This is Ozbargain I would trust that no one would be foolish enough to pay full price and not use a voucher code.

        • Phone order…. tell them you have a voucher… = less topping :-(

I am not fussed about a pizza being cheap… give me a decent pizza at a reasonable price any time.
Around here there are no independent pizza shops only the big box little contents franchises.

  • +2

    Worst. Announcement. Ever!

  • +7

I just bought 2 chefs best and they are TINY, I reckon no more than 60% the size of a regular pizza.

They do look good but if your hungry get the regular round ones. I've uploaded 3 pics to show you but I got hungry and took a bite, I did not have a regular round dominos pizza box so the regular box from my local as a size reference.

    http://i.imgur.com/x8gjrDq.jpg

    http://i.imgur.com/lRqa0rG.jpg

    http://i.imgur.com/Eh9urra.jpg

    .

    • yeah that is pretty small, and does not look significantly better than regular range anyway.

      • agreed, equivalent to pizza hut signature….fail

    • OK, I'm going to do some terrible maths. You've not given us measurements, which would have been handy, nor a comparison between pizzas, only boxes, which would also have been handy. As such I'll do this based on a box-scale assigning guesstimates to the sizes that are to scale to one another.

      Chef's Best (box): ~15 x ~20cm : 300 square centimetres
Bellisimo (box): ~11.25cm diameter : 400 square centimetres

So about 75% the area, give or take box related issues.

      • +2

Don't forget the ratio of crust to base is larger in the smaller pizza.

        • … and dont the pizza franchises know this.

        • Square pizza crust ratio is bigger so in the end we get less toppings.

        • -3

Good point, yes. But how in the hell did this vague point with no maths earn two upvotes where I earned none? I actually had to put effort into mine, search the webs for real dimensions (amazingly, no-one on the internet seems to know the dimensions of this new pizza nor even the diameter of the regular pizza), then make physical measurements based on a photo… you just made a slightly relevant observation.

I'm calling shenanigans on all of ozbargain.

          Shenanigans! SHENANIGANS!!!

        • whats the name of that restaurant you like, with all that goofy shit on the wall and those mozzarella sticks?

        • +3

          Flanigans! FLANIGANS!!!

  • If the pizza franchises can find any way to give you less for more they will… guaranteed!

  • Also the ad is pretty misleading.
They make you think the pizza would cost $8
but it is only one pizza that is that special price.

The rest are all $11, which makes it an even bigger rip off.

Someone please do some calculation of the area for

    -chefs best
    -traditional size.
