Like the way how you put "BigW Turn" in there !
For anyone wondering , yes, its available in all SIM sizes, and includes the iPad $30 started kit as well. (which I am using in my Huawei E353T)

  • Good find. Might be time to buy another couple!

PS: I recommend that people activate under the "Encore" offer to get the benefit of the 400MB of browsing data and $220 of "cap credit" (funny money) available under that offer. These bonuses must be used within 30 days.

An alternative is to activate under the 'Simplicity'. This gives $30 of credit which you can use to buy apps with on Android (and itunes, but not sure). Basically $30 of apps for $10. With a 60 day expiry date.

how exactly do we use our telstra credit to checkout at the play store?

        • +8

Sorry, I should have included a slight guide. Basically what I did was put the telstra sim in, register on the network (with data on - maybe turn off sync/downloading etc). Go into the play store, click buy , under billing options you should be able to select "Bill my Telstra Account" where you will fill in the details. Fill in details, turn wifi on. The option should be there to "bill my Telstra account" This works for a bit even after you change sim cards. But will disappear after a while and you will need to re put in your Telstra sim.

Hopefully that helps. Sounds a bit complicated/ambiguous, but it makes sense once you start to do it.

I learned something new everyday. this is a great post any more tips for using telstra sim card?

      • +4

Choosing encore also lets you use the credit to buy apps, except now you also have the bonus data and credit as well.

        https://help.telstra.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/21717

Basically you have to use telstra's mobile data while buying it.

        • +1

I didn't know this was possible, if it is than it's a better option indeed.
          But I was sure;
" You are not able to use your Bonus Cap Credit to purchase apps, books, movies or games".
Telstra must now add the $30 physical amount on top of their bonus cap credit.

So this is much the better option :)

Only difference I see is that 30 days or 60 days. But that's at personal prerogative. Thanks leon for pointing that out!

      • Woah great idea. Thanks for that!

    • i have bought a few of them from previous deals and always activate them for ipad use. Although they will not be capable of receiving/making calls or text, it gives you 3 GB of data for 30 days. Also if you have a Telstra prepaid you can transfer $10 to the using creditme2u and it will give you 1GB for 14 days, which is a pretty good value IMHO considering that i spend $40/month for my mobile and i get $510 of bonus credit for my calls and i can transfer the initial $40 credit to the ipad and get 3,9GB ($39 transferred, $0.25 fee per transfer)
The good thing is that by using creditme2u won't change your 1c/MB rate and you will only have to worry about the 14 day expiry

Anyone else getting an error when trying to bill to telstra account? I keep getting error retrieving info DF-DIAA-01.

  • I believe that you can also buy apps under the Encore plan. I tried it last time I was on it, but I had run to the end of the period and I was short on credit.

  • That's a good suggestion too, especially for gamers.

  • Is there a limit of purchases per customer as with the Woolies deal?

  • Why do you guys jump on this deal?
    - Can you use the 30 credit on another number?
    - Do you guys use a different number every month when this runs out? (the 7pm to 7am free calls txt thing)

Personally, I use it for Play Store Apps. Other good purposes is cheap credit on the Telstra network. Funnily enough I'll be buying one for the longlife credit option and put a simcard inside my phone's case "in case of emergencies" (who knows, zombie Apocalypse might happen, telstra networks will work)

Also cheap 4G data plan (with iPad starter set) - 3GB if you're out and about and want to browse the web at a good speed.

I'm sure other people will chime in with what they do with their credit.

      • for the longlife credit option

I don't understand. What is this option? or are you implying that 60 days is longlife?

        • There's a plan that is 180days

        • so, if i finish the first $10. i can cont next $10 and keeping the same number?

  • So if I activate on Simplicity, I can spend $30 on google play. How much can i spend on google play if i activate with encore?

    • Still only $30.

  • already bought from woolies when it was on. Thanks OP

  • Hey guys, if I got a few of these and left them unactivated, when would they expire?

    • Yes, I want to know as well..

    • +1

i bought mine in the last deal two weeks ago and the expiry was on the back of the packet. June 2014. Score

  • Can you use the credit for Apple Store? Can't find anything on Telstra's site referring to the apple store :(

    • Don't think so, some posts are misleading here!

  • could I say buy a Micro sim kit, recharge as Ipad 3gb 30 days and put it in my MBB modem or android smart phone and use it as a hotspot? I would need a sim converter and that's it right?

    • u could buy a normal sim and activate as an ipad sim as well

This example is for people who want to get a AFL subscription on their Ipad or similar.

    Cheap AFL SUBSCRIPTION or similar

    Step 1 . buy 4 cards
    Step 2. activate cards
Step 3. transfer all credits by calling #100# and select CreditMe2U OR use following web adress to merge accounts
    https://www.my.telstra.com.au/myaccount/register

You can add $10 per day at a charge of 25 cents per transfer.

Do this daily until you accumulate your $90.

Step 4. Purchase AFL $89.99 subscription for 1 year. ( You can get 1 month for $15 )

I did have an online chat with Telstra and have saved my transcript chat which verified the above.

Since woolworth 50pc off $29/5gb recharges finished January, Ipad $3/gb become my de facto card. Nothing beats 1 MB/s at speedtest.net +1.

  • Good to see telstra is getting better and better. Beat the crap out of optus ans vodafone. Go telstra

    • It's about time Telstra did something rather than follow, you should be glad we have Voda and Optus to provide competition.
If you didn't already know Telstra was gov owned till it sold most of it's share and hence enjoyed subsides and gov support while voda and optus recieve zip and have to pay for access to Telstra's infrastructure and build their own with little to no support.

      • +1

Believe me Optus and Vodafone get the best deal.

When Optus came along the Telstra Execs worked out how much to charge them for using their equipment, the government intervened and charged them a fraction (very small) of this cost.

They then dropped there rates causing competition (which I don't mind) Telstra is also forced to service areas which are non profitable, while vodafone and optus can go, Ummm No.

  • The post above from lukeloop mentioned combining of credits for purchasing AFL subscription but how about prepaid data?
Does anyone know if I can combine the values of multiple $30 credits and use them to buy prepaid data, say worth $100 or $180 ?
How would one go about doing it?

Is it the same way as the AFL subscription mentioned above? Do the limits and charges apply if the credit is used for Telstra prepaid products? If there is a transfer limit of $10/day and cost of $0.25, combining 6 cards would require 18 days consecutive transactions and $4.50 in fees, making it $175.50, $4.50 short of the required $180…

I currently don't have Telstra prepaid as you could probably tell, but I would like to purchase the 365 days prepaid data for travel. I'd appreciate any help from experienced OzBers.

Anyone know when the catalogue finishes? almost have run out of the last 10 sims i bought when they were 10 bucks.

    • This runs until Wednesday 13th March accoriding to the catalogue. Probably while stock last

  • +1

Apart from Google Play Store, you can also use Telstra credit to buy apps in Windows Phone Store

  • "Why is my 'Bill my Telstra account' greyed out when I tried to purchase a book for $24?
The content that you are about to purchase has exceeded the content spend limit for a ‘one off’ app, book, game purchase using Bill my Telstra account as a payment option. This limit is set to $20 and can’t be increased. If you want to purchase items over this amount you need to use credit card."

So we cannot buy a Tomtom app worth $60?

  • Where are these things located in the stores?

  • They are located in Home entertainment section, but don't hold your breath, my store had Nada.

    Belmont WA.

  • no stock on day 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like BP servos are running the same price for these as well.

    • Price at NSW/Botany BP was $15

      • I just noticed the sign at BP Hexham, if i get a chance during the week ill snap a pic.

  • Thanks OP, got two for the 2 Nexus 4's we just bought!

  • will coles pricematch bigW with this special ?

  • Liverpool had none, but I scored 2 at Macquarie today. They seem to have plenty more.

  • So i plan to only use this for apps, not the data or calls.

Better off on Simplicity than Encore, then I get 60 days expiry rather than 30? And still the $30 to spend on google play?
