Belkin Router + USB adaptor bundle $37

140

Retravision is selling the Belkin router + USB adaptor “wireless network starter kit” for $39.95. Part # B5Dau035.

I took it to Officeworks (who are selling it for $99) for a price match today and bought it for $37. The cheapest on staticice is $75.35.

There was a little bit of hassle as the price difference was quite large and the person who served me at the counter had to ask for help. Another salesman came and tried to explain that the two are different, using the excuse that the catalogue did not state it was a “starter kit”. However, I insisted it was the same because of the USB adaptor and I think the manager was informed and I was given the price match.

I’d hurry with this because it does say “limited stock” and I don’t think they checked with Retravision when I made my purchase because the sales person came back quite fast.

I realise this might not be the best router out there but remember this includes a USB adaptor for your old desktops/laptops without wireless cards or even Ethernet ports. I’ll test it out when I get the time and maybe comment here for you guys.

I am unsure of the expiry date as I no longer have the catalogue (officeworks said they needed to keep the catalogue for price match purposes).

This deal is from VIC by the way, I'm not sure if it'll work with other states.

  • This is kind of exactly what I'm looking for, except I'm in WA. :( There's a different catalogue here for us, and for some reason it says $57, and doesn't actually state if it's got the USB adaptor. Even if I got this at 50 plus bucks I'd be happy.

I'm willing to spend a wee bit more for an N draft router and USB adaptor for my desktop, anyone know of any good deals?

    • That’s a shame. Also, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an N draft router for a “wee bit” extra and even more unheard of if you want USB adaptor included.

    • Ours is a different catalogue.. with a different expiry date.. I don't think it includes the USB adapter either!!

Victoria, Tasmainia and Southern NSW catalogue expiry is 24 January.

  • Cool. It's in the NSW catalogue too.

Btw, what version of the F5d7230-4au router is this? That marvell chipset version (v6000) I had a while ago was rubbish.

    • Unfortunately only in the Southern NSW catalogue (not the Northern NSW one).

In fact, we get quite a raw deal here in Northern NSW compared to our southern counterparts. The Acer Aspire One netbook is $200 more expensive up north. That is absolutely ridiculous. At most it would only cost $50 to post one up here!

    • It says ver 7000 on mine :)

  • Dont expect great things from this router, I have one. Doesn't like like lots of open connections ie any kind of P2P software, and wireless range is useless through walls. Doesn't have enough onboard ram for DD-WRT http://www.dd-wrt.com.

  • Just to be difficult….. the attached flyer has a price of $39.95 (i.e. $40). Just to be picky.

I have a friend who wants ADSL2+, so I was looking at getting a cheap wireless modem/router from MSY, and a PCI wireless card (total cost approx $100). Might be cheaper to get this pack from Retravision, plus a cheap adsl2+ modem…. but if the wireless range isn't good, and doesn't like P2P… might not be the best option then. :( I guess you really do get what you pay for!

    • Get a Dynalink RTA1025W or Netcomm NB6plus4W (same modem, different plastic case and branding).
They have excellent sync speeds, excellent wireless range and they're a decent price too.

      • The Netcomm NB6plus4W is the one I was actually looking at, plus whatever wireless PCI card that MSY had in stock (so, probably $115 all up). She lives in a double story house, hence my concern with the Belkin router if it has bad range (and I'm assuming the wireless USB sticks aren't that great?).

Does anyone know what the actual model number is for the Belkin wireless router? I would like to find a review on it though. :)

        • We have a RTA1025W in a 2 story 1880's era house with 16 inch thick solid stone walls, the router is positioned in the middle of the house on the top floor and we get good signal everywhere.
Plus the convenience of having everything in one unit, and only one power pack to plug in.

F5d7230-4au is the model number for this Belkin

  • Got it from Officeworks Collins St for $37. Thanks fufufu!

  • Ah geez it's a Belkin. Bargain on face value maybe, but on real value, umm NO.

  • Not gonna give this a negative, but to me, Belkin = dodgy business practices + poor products.

  • I tried to pick this up at OW at Nth Syd, but the sales rep. said it was a different model to the one at Retra Vision had, the picture looks the same.
Anyway I ended up picking up the JB BigPond Wireless only $30, glad the OW staff rejected my offer.

  • Just to let people know this router is doing a good job for me. No dropouts, reception is good from 2 rooms away (with a PSP) and P2P (utorrent on the computer connected via cable) is same speed as it was before the router was introduced. I have yet to try the USB adaptor.

I'm not sure why there are so much prejudice against Belkin products. I’m guessing that the people who have had problems with this router have older versions of the hardware. I have had no trouble with Belkin products before. This router also comes with LIFETIME warranty so you can ask for a FREE replacement or get FREE support for as long as you own the router.

I don’t work for Belkin and I didn’t get paid to write this. I just want people to pick up a bargain and get a decent product. For $37 this router can’t be beat.

    • Well I can tell you that I speak from experience when I tell you that I had to return belkin routers three times to a store. Even if there is lifetime warranty I got tired of taking them back. Two of which were the same model as this one and the salespeople at the store were getting ticked off at me coming back returning them. First one blew after a year or so and the other two wouldn't hold a stable wireless connection. Tech support was no help at all with canned responses and one actually hung up on me after I was told to hold on the line. I just went with netgear after that. Buying Belkin is asking for trouble IMHO. :D
