SimCity Limited Edition AU$26.96 from Origin India (Download Only) + FREE EXTRA EA GAME

1740

Paraphrased from this forum post with a couple of my own additions:

Get SimCity Limited Edition for AU$26.96 (if using a 28 Degrees Mastercard or other zero currency conversion fee card) from Origin direct (well their Indian online store anyway).

This should be the cheapest available price around (see forum discussion for comparison).

Instructions:

  1. If you have an existing Origin account, go to https://www.origin.com/au/account#about-me and change your country of residence to India. Now close and reopen your browser.

  2. Click through to: the Indian Origin Store and find SimCity Limited Edition.
It should show the price in Rupees (1499 of them). If not, you've done something wrong. Add it to your cart and proceed to checkout.

  3. Enter all your details as per usual, except have the country set as India (should only show countries from that region anyway).

  4. ???

  5. Profit!

Order confirmation email took about 20 minutes to come through but the game appears in my Origin account instantly.

(btw, you can play it in English)

Edit:
I forgot to mention, your purchase will come with another free EA game

The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.

And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

personaly id like to buy a hardcopy versin just in case i wana sell it later. bought mine from video easy 43$ delivered aus version. buying it off E origin ur pretty much stuck with it

    • Did you get it yet? I cancelled my order with them to try and get this but missed it. Apparently they ran out of copies.

    • +3

Doesn't the hard copy cd key just go through origin anyway?
Only difference is you are installing from disk rather than downloading it.
Don't think you could re-sell it because the key would be tied to your origin account.

    • +2

Incase you weren't aware, you can't resell a physical copy anyway.. it gets tied to your origin account.. You could resell your origin account, but that just opens a can of worms.

    • +1

      I laughed a bit.

      • I guess I won't know if he got a copy anymore… :(

        • Try Singapore VPN/proxy.
I used that a couple of months back to get BF3 ltd.

Woops sorry for my Ignorance. Been a long time since I bought a pc game. Usually buy ps3. Shows how far things have come. Anyways I'm not fussed too much, still bit of a risk buy under India alias for 27$. Murmurs around abt accounts being cancelled. May be unfounded but who knows. Fact the sites gone down pretty quick shows origin r onto something.

  • has it disappear from the india origin website????.
i can not see it there anymore ;(

    • Yes. Seem ea caught on quick and shut the Asian region site down for simcity. Probably come up again soon but doubt it will be 27$ again. Who knows what will happen to those who bought under India alias.

The Russian store still has it, but for $38. Still quite cheap.

    • wonder if should wait or buy. Video ezy is a disappointment….

    • I saw that, but will it be in Russian? Anyone tried it, and confirmed it can be played in English like the Indian one?

      • Just purchased it, install option only gives Russian, Polish or Hungarian. This site (http://pin4allstore.com/games/simcity/) does give you a way to circumvent that restriction after installation, no idea if it's legit yet as the game is still installing.

        • Sounds a bit of a complicated way just to add a language. Wish I would have purchased from the Indian store on time :( Didn't realise they would remove it (wonder if its coming back?)

Good luck with your install, hope it all goes well and your able to get it to English.

        • How did you go??

        • Still installing as I chose to install it in Hungarian originally before I found the language patch, had to uninstall to get it into Russian. Then I had to pause it to d/l The Walking Dead. Should be done in an hour to hour and a half so I'll be sure to post back with results.

        • Ok just completed install and followed the instructions. Got stuck in an infinite loop of updates, which the solution to is also addressed on that webpage. Did that and just loaded up an English version of the game!

        • Can also confirm that this works - was very easy to get the language patch working! just follow the instructions and there shouldn't be any issues. SO if any one is looking for the cheapest and you don't mind the inconvenience of langauge patching it - then the Russian version is the way to go! (in my opinion)

    • I had BF2 Russian version and it was a PITA, every time they patched the game it reverted to Russian and I had to find a new fix online.

  • anyone bought from the Russian origin store? is it as simple to do as the indian version?

  • I purchased it as well - does not give english option. Hoping this patch works or will have to brush up on my Russian! :/ might be an idea to confirm these things before suggesting next time!

    • let us know how it goes with the patch? =)

      • reports ive read on the internet seem positive - seems like a fairly common thing with russian games off origin. I can imagine it would be a pain with more cutscene intensive games like battlefield etc. but a patch for this game should seem pretty straight forward - i hope!

Will be sure to post back and confirm if it works.

  • Restock 20 days but standard edition

  • in the end I bought it from Irigin Singapore for $50.80, this gets you the English version

Here is the EA origin India facebook "official" statement:

    https://www.facebook.com/EA.India/posts/460565524013027

They reckon it was an exploit that was being abused…

I like one of the comments down that page: "being abused?? just another half arsed mistake from your end. and after the server fiasco, i think EA deserved it!"

Anyway, I got it for cheap through them. Unfortunately, all the oceanic servers are full…

  • I hear the servers are only gunna be open for a few years doesn't sound worth getting until they fix all the problems

  • Any fresh advice on where to buy? $50 off Origin Singapore is still a bit steep

    • yer get it from the Mexican store which has Ingles :-D $~38 aud

      • hey! may i know which proxy you used to get from the mexican store? I can't seem to find much working ones online :((

        • +1

          proxy, I didnt use one

Direct download: English (American), English (Europe), Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), Russian, Spanish, Swedish.

You can buy the delux for $299.00

        • Tried with my NAB Visa Debit card and got:

"La autorización del pago falló. "

          Which according to google is;

          "The payment authorization failed."

          :(

        • was it because you had a different address from your credit card?

btw it seems that buying the deluxe version add-on for 299 mexican pesos is more expensive than getting it from the US store, here's a comparison of the prices:

          Limited Edition

          US Store : USD 59.99
          Mexican Store : 499 Pesos -> USD 40.29

          Deluxe Edition

          US Store : USD 79.99
          Mexican Store : 799 Pesos -> USD 64.48

          Deluxe Edition Upgrade :

          USD Store : USD 20
          Mexican Store : 299 Pesos ->USD 24.132

Buying Limited Edition from Mexican store and upgrading it with deluxe upgrade from US Store:

          499 Pesos + USD 20 = USD 40.29 + USD 20 = $60.29

          PROFIT!!!

        • they might have stopped it, because when I try to buy it from the Mexican store it redirects me to the Australian one.

It might need a proxy to work.

I was never going to buy this because of all the crap I heard.

Then this bargain comes up and I'm like "this is a way to uphold my sense of self righteousness over the Origin hellish DRM and server issue dramas and still pick up a bargain."

Bought it no probs, downloaded it no probs, played it immediately no probs…

Good game. Pity it's Origin/on-line only rubbish, but they are entitled to try to stop piracy, just wish there was a way that worked and didn't stuff up genuine customers.

    • +3

your money, no matter the amount, will further encourage them to online DRM all future games

  • Is there any other places to buy it? I can't seem to buy it off the singapore site.

  • +3

Technical exploit.. More like consumer exploit. They were charging Australians 2.5X as much for the exact same item..for an Internet based download.. I can understand physical items being more expensive due to delivery charges and such.. but digital downloads being 2.5x as much is just a clear rip off.

    • +1

There's a lot more to it than that. They've built the game expecting $50-60 sales from the majority of people, but for regions like India and Russia publishers have realised that most people simply can't spend that kind of money on a game, so they have the choice of either making no sales, or selling at a reduced price. They choose the latter of those. But at the same time, they wouldn't make the game if they intended to sell it at that price to everyone.

When Australians pay significantly more than the US or Western Europe then it's a clear case of them ripping us off.

      • +1

in my opinion.. cheaper will get them more sales. i wouldn't have ever bought this for $80, or even $60.

        • I doubt they'd get three times as many sales by offering it at $20 compared to $60, not to mention that three times as many people buying it means three times the server load and an even worse experience.

        • Our economies are different.
It's like complaining about the cost of a meal here vs there.

        • +1

          Our economies are different.
It's like complaining about the cost of a meal here vs there

It really isn't. The meal has local produce, shipping where not local, local labour, local rent, local regulations for health and busniess practice etc.

This has to pass some degree of australian regulation as a one off cost, but that it all. The cost difference is for very different reasons to the meal example.

Also high quality food as we expect in Australia is often very expensive in poorer countries (even more expensive than here).

    • Maybe Australian parliament should have subpoenaed EA along with apple, adobe and ms. Seriously $80 for this game in Australia, $25 in India… Tell me that's not price gouging

  • +5

I wouldn't lose any sleep whatsoever about regional pricing bulls$!t.. As it is, EA charged my card from Ireland, which doesn't have any corporate tax, so if EA want to accuse it's customers of abusing the system, they themselves should have a good hard look at themselves..

Ethics? What ethics.. They're just as guilty as everyone else for abusing regional disparities.

  • The list of free games have been released; including Dead Space 3, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3 etc..

    • +1

I gotta say, I'm pretty impressed with the game selection. I expected things like Sim City 4 or Bejewelled 3, but BF3, ME3, DS3, NFS:MW, these are all recent & big name titles, and to have the choice of which one you want is surprising too.

  • +1

    regret not buying this now

  • +1

So that's SimCity 5 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted for $26.96.
