Features

  • Full HD: Enjoy a great level of home entertainment realism. The high resolution helps deliver a great viewing experience to your Samsung TV. When youve seen the rich and vivid texture of Full HD images, your favourite TV programs and movies may never be the same again.
  • Clear Motion Rate: Experience the true meaning of motion clarity with Samsung's Clear Motion Rate. It is a new motion clarity standard based on the actual measurement of resolution in a moving scene. Clear Motion Rate determines the clarity of motion using 3 different factors: Panel, Video processing, and Backlight technology. With this new standard in motion measurement and control, you will have better motion clarity and clearly see the whole new dimension in picture quality.
  • Samsung Smart Hub: Discover a different world of social and personalised home entertainment with Samsungs updated Smart Hub and three great new services. Family Story lets you share special photos, messages and events with loved ones. Meanwhile, children can stay entertained and educated with the Kids feature. You can also exercise and manage your training using Fitness. With access to great content as well as a selection of Samsung Apps, web browsing, Skype (requires the purchase of the Samsung TV camera, sold separately) and more, this is an outstanding family home entertainment experience.
  • Wireless Content Access and Streaming: Make the most of all your content and devices with wireless sharing. Thanks to AllShare Play, you can stream movies, photos, music and more from any compatible devices nearby, including PCs. 3D viewing at home helps to deliver sharp picture quality. Cloud technology and Samsung web storage give freedom and mobility, allowing you to access and share multimedia when youre away from home, too. Now you can enjoy all your favourite content on your TV or away from it.
  • Stylish Design: Samsungs One Design delivers an outstanding viewing experience. The Ultra Slim design elegantly combines the LED TVs bezel with its panel to provide you with a great viewing experience.
  • Widescreen Skype Video Calls: Stay in touch with friends and family from the comfort of your home with the Skype app for Smart TV, available for free in the Samsung App store. In order to use the Skype app, you must buy a separately-sold Skype camera kit. It allows you to make high-quality widescreen video calls to loved ones throughout the world. You can create new Skype accounts, access existing ones and navigate using your Smart TVs remote control. Be close with face-to-face communication.
  • HDMI x 3: With 3 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) inputs, the Samsung TV will help transform your living room into a multimedia entertainment centre. HDMI provides high-speed transmission of high definition digital data from multiple compatible devices straight into your TV (HDMI capable sold separately).
  • ConnectShare Movie: Plug your compatible USB memory drive into the TV to enjoy movies, photos or live music.
  • Wireless LAN: Streamline your TVs connectivity capabilities without adding many additional external features and help maintain its attractive design. The convenient One Foot Connection feature wirelessly detects compatible devices that are placed within one foot (30.48cm) of the TV and wireless router.
  • Eco Sensor - Save Energy and Your Eyesight: The Eco Sensor measures the intensity of the light in the room and then automatically calibrates the brightness of the image on the TV. Under bright situations, the sensor will increase the brightness of an image while the sensor will reduce the brightness under darker situations. That means the Eco Sensor controls the amount of light used to create its images.

    • Have them deliver it, or pick it up yourself.

Wow! Better than CoTD charging ~$99 for their delivery to Melbourne. You're all right, Bing Lee!

Wireless LAN Ready (Wireless LAN Adapter required, sold separately)

Not shipping a $20 dongle with a $1200 TV is douchebaggery of the highest order from Samsung IMHO…BTW, $20 is reasonable person price, not the price-gouging I'll bet Sammy RRP is asking for the sucker!!! ;)

      • +1

        Ouch! ;)

A quick search of the googlewebz tells me that a compatible Hama branded one can be had for roughly 20 quid…even reports itself as a Sammy unit, Samsung should hang their head in shame!!!

Doesn't work with 2012 models, such as the subject TV, according to Amazon.co.uk customer reviews. Dunno who negged you, but it wasn't me ;)

    • According to other comments, it does in fact have built in Wifi.

      • I have the 60" of the same series, it was also spec'ed as "wifi-optional" - the box had "built in wifi" written on the side of it - and wifi was in fact built in, so check the side of the box (or ask rep) before buying if you are worried about wifi not being included as standard).

Come with a similar or rather larger size passive 3D deal, similarly prized, and I may bite :-)

Not a bad price for this model. Im looking for myself I want 65 or bigger under 3000
Has to be 3D and prefer passive (active gives me headaches). But I know once I buy it the 80s will drop and ill kick myself

      • +1

But way over my budget. I would be happy with a 60 inch at around 1300. Passive 3D.

  • There seems to be a 50' version for $777.00

  • I've got a Panasonic 50" P50UT20A Plasma - but experience a lot of glare from a bright, north-facing lounge in an apartment. The image quality is great at night though.

    Is it worth the replacement?

    • No, the coating on the screen produces a lot of glare.
I have the same problem as you in my apartment.

      • +11

What was he doing in your apartment?

        • +5

          Coating the screen

        • 'coating' his 'screen'

    • +2

I replaced an 4 year old Panasonic Plasma with this models slightly bigger brother the 60", there is allot less glare on the screen of the samsung (as it is matte plastic, where as I think the panasonic was actually glass. The Series 6 Samsung has a lesser viewing angle than the Series 8 (which we use at work in a display apartment) and also the the angle is less than the old Panasonic. The colour fades off badly when viewed from too much of an angle - not a deal breaker at this price though. The most impressive thing you will find when going from the old Panasonic Plasma to this is the reduction in electricity, our Panasonic 50" uses about 700w of power vs Samsung Series 6 about 60w (depending on the brightness level selected).

      • Hi Jason. I also have a 4 year old Panasonic Plasma and I have been eying off this exact model Samsung for a while now. The only thing I wonder about having never owned an LCD TV before is the picture quality.

I have been told that while plasma seems fairly natural in regards skin tones etc LCD panels can come off a little … cartoony (I'm not sure how else to put it).

What have your experiences of the PQ been like swapping between the two?

  • +1

I have this TV in 50'. It comes with wifi built in. So I don't know what you guys are talking about.

  • Thinking of heading down in the morning and grabbing one of these. I noticed the series 8 is twice the price, and was wondering what are the main differences?

Also, if someone could measure the stand so I can make sure it fits on my $49 dick smith tv stand that would be awesome :)

    • +1

Series 8 you get voice commands, motion cams, updated EPG, 200hz on LED etc.

The above is a top quality panel and one of the best deals you will see ATM for main TV.

      • what does "Clear Motion Rate: 400" translate to?

        • It is samsungs tricky way of determining motion refresh rate. I don't believe that propaganda for a second but you might want to do more reading. I.e. 100hz panel could have a 400hz clear motion rating which means moving object won't blur as much (in Samsung theory)

        • +1

The series 8 is actually a far superior screen in real world performance - not just on paper, I have a series 6 at home and we have a series 8 at work - there is no comparison as far as clarity and colour depth, viewing angle etc etc. Having said this there is no way I could justify the price of a series 8 at home and am very happy with the series 6 screen for home use - I paid just over $2000 for a 60" Series 6 just before the Olympics, at nearly half this price for a 55" - this is a bargain.

      • Thanks very much, I'll grab one tomorrow :)

Is there anyone waiting for 60" Sammy LED TV to drop below $1000 mark? Or is it just me?

  • i checked out sharp's 80", 90" and others smaller sizes, 80" is what i am after. 60" is the minimum.

    • Do you prefer Sharp over Sammy? Why?

      • i have no preference between these two brands, tbh. imo, both are pretty good.

  • Wall Mountable: Yes, VESA and mini wall mount supported

is there a specific Samsung mini wall mount that is compatible with this TV?

  • I'm having trouble trying to add it to my cart, anyone else experiencing this?

    • Keep trying, it eventually went through for me.

One of my mates needs to upgrade his 5 year old 40 inch sony bravia to something like this. His wife won't let him though because she likes the glass bezel finish on the old TV!

  • Looks like a good deal. My are doing some renovations and are going to upgrade from their 32" CRT to a 55" or greater panel. I think they've been looking at plasma but they have a lot of floor to ceiling windows (some with e-screens) in their living area, so perhaps an LED would be a better option for them in a bright room?

Thoughts gang? I personally never buy entry level of anything, but this seems pretty well specc'd and may do them just fine. They'll probably never use 3D but you never know.

Worth purchasing or better to spend a bit more and go to the next level?

    Thanks for the heads-up OP.

    Cheers.

  • How is this compared to the Bravia 55" HX750 that costo were doing for 1299 recently?

  • for those who prefer JBHiFi it is on their website for $1186.

    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-lcd-led-plasma/samsung/-55-inch-…

    • Remember, you'll have to add delivery to that price unless you've got a suitable vehicle to transport the beast home, so Bing Lee still a better deal IMO.

  • how does this compare to Toshiba 55VL900A and the Panasonic Viera TL-L55ET5A both 55" and on special at JB for $1101?

  • Grabbed the last 55" at hurstville.

  • Picked it up for $1150 at TGG Artarmon. Good TV so far.

  • Picked this up at JB HiFi at Browns Plains QLD for $1300.. At first they didnt want to do it, then I showed em the advert on www.bigbrownbox.com.au and showed that it was Australian stock + samsung warranty for this model and eventually they offered it at the above price.
