  • i fail to see any special about this laptop (specs, price), but maybe others can

    • +1

i7 CPU & decent dedicated graphics for <$700 is special?

    • Its a 3rd gen i7 with dedicated gpu for under $650 (if pricematched at officeworks.)

      • i got my i7 3630qm with 2 more GB RAM and the exact same graphic card for $599 last year. Even though it is a Toshiba and this is a HP. Having own both i can't see any different in quality build

        • That was a nice deal. Are you happy with the performance of that cpu/gpu combo?

        • Its not bad, you actually get 3815mb of graphic memories 1024 mb dedicated and the rest is share system memories. I dont play an hardcore game but it run dota 2 on full setting pretty smoothly. It work fine for me not sure about hardcore gamer though

        • Mine was a 3610qm, 12gb ram & AMD7670 (1gb) (Toshiba L850). Once you replace the HDD with an SSD it becomes a very fast machine. Most current games (Steam via USB3 drive) run at 1280x720 on medium to high with no observable issues. I'm not an enthusiast gamer so it suits most of my needs fine, might be able to get higher settings…

  • Bought one, tried it for 2 days, got a refund.
Windoes 8 is hideous, lacking all 3-d design clues to intuitive use.
I installed software to get past the tablet startup screen and to make windows explorer useful again, but W8 is still an unwieldy mess, unsuitable for accomplishing real multi-tasking productive work.
So, I thought, maybe I will install W7. I used a tool to resize the W8 partition from 400Gb to 50Gb. I did not create a new partition; I merely made part of the existing partition unused and available (and leaving 13Gb available space on the W8 partition.) On reboot W8 will not run claiming a missing file that must be fixed with install disk. (No install disk was included.)
After some research online, and trying all the options available on boot up, I set the BIOS to allow legacy boot to the optical drive.
Tried good boot disks for both vista and XP SP2.
Neither was acceptable to boot/run to the laptop's configuration, although both boot and run perfectly in my ASUS laptop.
I could be wrong, but it appears that MSFT (and maybe HP) don't want anyone to use an alternate OS to W8. IMO, that's the only hope they have of increasing market share for w8 past niche tablet use.
I do not care to be an unpaid consultant to either company, and I have better things to do with my time, so I returned the laptop for a full refund.
Henceforth I will not consider any computer delivered with Windows 8 unless I learn how to easily install another preferable OS.
