Nokia Lumia 920 32GB Black $499 +Shipping @ Unique Mobiles

130

Hi guys,

Just spotted this deal from Uniquemobiles for today.
The black Nokia Lumia 920 is going for $499+additional shipping (e.g. $522 express to Sydney).

Seems better than that deal from Kogan last week (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97283).
Keep in mind that there are rumours of an upcoming replacement in the near future.

Shipping is $23 express to Sydney.

EDIT: I just ordered one myself!

Cheers,
Danny

  • Out of interest, why would people rather pay for gray imports? Solely for the price? What if something goes wrong with the phone?? (Yes I realise there is "local" warranty service, but it seems so much more troublesome?)

    • +1

Primarily price but it also means you wont have telstra/optus bloatware installed on the phone slowing it down.

      • I'm not familiar with WP8, but with Android you can install custom firmware to remove the bloatware. However, avoiding bloatware out-of-the-box is definitely a positive.

Yes, grey imports are mainly for the price or earlier access to the device prior to local release.

        • I am not sure but installing custom firmware doesn't void phone's warranty? I had Samsung Galaxy 2 previously and had so much problem in getting updates from vodafone and to get rid of this problem, I bought iPhone (no involvement from service providers) and changed to Optus.

        • You're right, it does generally void the warranty. Sometimes it's easy to restore the phone back to stock but other times it can be a struggle.

        • Im quite new to all these slang terms, what do you guys mean by bloatware? First time buying a phone online and outright since I always get plans. The grey imports seem a lot cheaper compared to local prices. Thanks

        • Bloatware is the software preinstalled on the phone by your carrier. I haven't bought any phone with it recently, but my last Telstra phone came with Foxtel, Telstra news, etc. all installed on it. Some software can take up a fair bit of space, and is generally impossible to uninstall without some hacking. Also, phones with the customised carrier software on it usually get updates from the carrier, rather than the manufacturer, so in the case of eg a Telstra Samsung Galaxy S2, you first need to wait for Google to release the Android update, then Samsung to release the update for the S2, and then finally Telstra to release their version of the Samsung release and push it out to phones.

I can't comment specifically on Windows Phones since I've never owned one.

Carriers and manufacturers are allowed to preinstall apps on WP8, but they aren't stuck there forever and can be removed and redownloaded just like any other app.

Manufacturers and carriers are also each allocated a special section in the Marketplace for apps of their own, e.g. if you get a Nokia on Telstra you will have a Telstra category for Telstra apps and a Nokia Collection category for the Nokia apps.

  • How much are these going for locally atm in stores?

    • Cheapest price I've seen in stores is $696 direct from Telstra.

      • $678 at DSE.

  • sometimes, the processing is slow.

    • My Note 2 was processed pretty quickly in October/Novemer 2012. Not sure how it'll go this time around, especially with the upcoming public holidays.
Hopefully it's better than the 2-3 weeks people have suggested for Kogan.

      • It is extremely slow recently. no one answer the phone and live chat, or email. What's wrong with the site. Mine hasn't been processed for a few days
