I have been interwebbing all day today to find a decent (read: cheap) Tablet for me folks. Was gonna grab the Nexus 7 but damn, mum is half blind and so is dad with their telescope thick glasses they wear. I see that people are going goo goo gaga over the Nexus 7 32GB tablet for $250, what about this 10.1inch model with Full HD 1900 x 1200 screen for $15 extra? Seems beefy with 2GB Ram as well and Samsung quad core CPU. Seems much better than the Nexus? Tablet guru's microscope the specs as I am no tech head but the cheapest on eBay I can find is $329. Delivery time is about 12 days. (Bought a few things from them for the iphone 4 previously)

Tip : Change the currency to AU on the top left.

Review Video (Thx to user Elysiar): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZaZtniMxo4

Seems like a good price / performance compromise so put it up here. What ye' all think? $15 extra than the Nexus 7 and errr better? Don't want me folks to squint when using it to read the news / youtube etc thus the 10.1 FULL HD argument.

Edit: Oh crap, the deal landed on the front page!! Just a few things I would like to add from the comments below from users who have more know how than me regarding the specs, reason being so buyers can make a more informed choice. The cameras are average at best especially the front facing camera. Also as this model is a fairly new release, the initial software release had issues with full HD 1080P video playback, it has been fixed with a new software update that can be downloaded from Ramos so all is good. What else….someone mentioned battery life is about 6 hours which is below that of iPad. That's about it me thinks, will update as I go through the new comments. Thanks guys.

  • Spec looks good, but not sure about the build quality.

    • the build quality of Ramos is quite good too (in general).

its a nice unit - fast, VERY fast, gorgeous screen. only problem we have had is the buttons on the side can stick out occasionally, but a lil wiggle fixes it. is the same chipset as the new samsung 10" - really amazingly responsive
we got ours from merimobile - reliable seller - the code welcome will get their price within a few $ of this

  • wow with a keyboard dock this could turn into a very capable and affordable netbook

    definitely worth considering imo

    • +1

For me, the main point was the Full HD screen and 10.1 size. Interwebbing a bit more and there is also a new software released that fixes a few teething issues like FULL HD 1080P video playback which had issues in the first release. Thought I might add that.

  • This kind of tablet has my suppoet.

    • +6

      It can have my sockpuppet too.;

I prefer to buy Ainol from Bang Good.

    • -3

      bang good ainol

ainol captain STILL isnt out yet

      btw.

      Hello
      Have Ramos W30 GPS sensor?
      Thanx

      Ramos Tablet:
      Thank you for your mail.
Ramos W30HD do not build in GPS.

    • yeah and at the same time I prefer to buy my condoms from MicroSOFT. Maybe the Ainol brand won't be interested in me anymore.

Here is a Youtube review on the posted model : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZaZtniMxo4

Specs are pretty great. Looks decent for the price!

    • +1

+1 for the review as it has PSY.

    • -3

The video review showed that the tablet has a very impressive screen, but the overall build quality of this tablet doesn't seem to be quite there. It uses lot of hard plastic for the construction of the tablet, and the silver colour on the back is sprayed on.

Obviously at this price, you would not be expecting iPad quality. But with these hard plastic backing and the 10 inch sizes, there is a longevity factor at play.

      • The 'hard plastic' isn't going to make a difference to 'longevity'.

        • It is Aluminum alloy

      • +14

So you prefer stone tablet like Moses

        • +2

I'd be happy with Joseph Smith's golden plates even at a lower res. You can keep his fan club though.

        • Rosetta Stone would do it for me. The type of plastics used could affect the stiffness of the Tablet's case. Also certain plastics crack easily overtime, which may cause the entire tablet to fall apart after a while. i.e. like the plastic casing used in the HP TouchPad.

  • -4

Can you get Ainol from Banggood?

How satisfied would I be getting it from them?

  • +1

This is a great tablet. Good processor, Ramos is one of the few established chinese brands out there. Should have good build quality, almost tempted to get one myself!

    • It sure sounds better than Ainol. The name puts me off from buying one. I just can't imagine turning up to coporate meetings with an "7 inch Ainol" tablet.

  • Nexus has full on Google support.

    • and full support as well

    • and a full on price too!

    • I hear the sky is blue too. What's your point. Compare apples and apples.

      • -4

Nexus is an Android tab, this is an Android tab? Apples?

        • +1

A BMW is a car, so is a Great Wall. Are they both apples?

          Nexus 10 - $469
          This tablet - $265

Obviously not in the same league for comparisons.

        • -3

Sorry, talking about 10" Android Tablets here not apples or cars, do try and keep up.

        • +1

Zoooommm; that was the analogy going over your head.

        • -5

Nope, that was someone entertaining themselves with silly noises.

  • +1

The specs are good, but I'd be concerned that it takes more than good components to make a reliable tablet. Testing is the bit that cheap technologies cut cost on, and the fact that they admit having crushed a few screens before realising their packaging was inadequate kind of shows that.
The site says nothing about warranty.

  • Even in China the price is 1599 yuan (~AUD 245.7), so I have to say this is good.

  • What is the battery life?

    • Very poor. The review in China is not so good.

    • Sure not as good as lower res models, one questions whether the res matters that much if battery life in turn suffers greatly

    • I think its like <5 hours, can't remember where I read it from. But, if you're a DIY sort of person, you can always upgrade the battery.

  • +2

Awesome price. I also cannot wait for the next wave of cheap Chinese 5" 1080p phones to arrive on these shores at <$300.. Very good..

  • +1

And here I am expecting jokes about the URL.

    • yeh its done the rounds before - usually along with comments about the ass tablet.

  • +1

Thanks for the feedback guys, bit the bullet and bought it.

  • +2

another one that seems decent at around the same price point is the cube…

    http://www.cube-stores.com/cube-u30gt2-rk3188-quad-core-10-1…

Im VERY tempted to grab one of those quad core 1.8Ghz, quad core mali400

    same type of specs…
    CPU: RK3188, Cortex A9 Quad Core 28nm 1.8GHz
    GPU: Quad Core Mali400 MP4 533MHz
    OS: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
    RAM: 2GB DDR3
    Storage: 32GB
    Bluetooth:Yes
    HDMI: Support
Camera: Dual Camera Front 2.0 Megapixels,Back 5.0 Megapixels with AutoFus LED Flashlight
Screen: 10.1 inch IPS screen, 19201200 pixel
    Screen Type: G+G Capacitive Screen
    Display Resolution: 1920
    1200 pixel
    Visible: Angle 178°
Extend Card: Support TF card up to 32GB

the new chinese quads dont seem to have GPS, but i've never really used the GPS on my acer…
so, better clock speed and better camera.

lol, looks like i was 4 minutes too slow… you bit the bullet while i was typing :)

most of the time if i need it i use it on the phone.

    • +2

The RK3188 CPU is one of the fastest at the moment. Look up Antutu benchmarks and you will see outperform the Nexus 7 and 10. Just waiting for these to come in a 7" format. All,are 10" in size.

      • +1

Anyone tried the Ramos X10 minipad? It's got the same form factor as the iPad mini (which makes for better viewing and reading than a straight 7" tablet).

    • -1

Oooooh…..but I think the Ramos has the Samsung Quad Core CPU though. Better me thinks?

      • Yes and No. Right now the real life performance of the Rockchip Quad is worse than Samsung Quad BUT the theoretical performance of the Rockchip is supposed to be way better. I'll chock it down to bad software for now.

        • +6

For future reference, the expression is to 'chalk it down' (as in, 'on a blackboard').

        • For past, present and future reference, the idiom is "chalk it up".

        • +1

Touché - in a sort of a roundabout way. I think I can claim undue influence from the fact that not all blackboards are vertical. The last time I saw one it was indeed horizontal and in the hands of a four year-old!
Messier than a Ramos tab/iPad, but not without its virtues.

        • +1

Not many 4 year-old barkeepers in the taverns of turn of the (20th) century Britain :p

        • Um, wow, yep, ok :b

        • +1

Yep, that's exactly how I feel most of the time

  • -7

Why is everyone saying good specs?
Its got a pathetic front and back camera
Low res screen compared to the common "retina" displays
Has an old version of andriod. Maybe its hard to update.

    • +3

The majority of people don't care about camera res.
1920x1200 is plenty good enough for 99% of uses.
It supports Android 4.1 which, again, is good enough for the majority of people.

The specs that people are referring to as good are the CPU, the inbuilt RAM and the good res (compared to most tablets).

    • +9

Seriously.. do you know how stupid one looks using a 10" tablet to take pictures?

      • Who cares? If someone told you you look stupid while having sex would you turn down Jen Hawkins?

        • +7

f someone told you you look stupid while having sex would you turn down Jen Hawkins?

One does not usually have sex in public.

        • +3

I suppose you are a person that uses a 10" tablet to take phone calls directly on the tablet as well?? http://bit.ly/PgD7oO

        • +4

Though to be fair to Jen Hawkins, I wouldn't let an audience get in the way of that :P

Disclaimer: To my wife, babe if you read this, I'm only joking! Flowers, or chocolate?

        • RE: http://bit.ly/PgD7oO

          It's Kochie from Sunrise!

        • +2

Both, you miserable bastard, and if I catch you looking at that Hawkins girl or any other girl, I'll have your balls on a platter!

        • Damn it!

      • +2

I really don't get the logic of taking pictures using a tablet, especially a 10" one. Odds are people who owns a tablet would also have a smartphone. Why not use the phone to take pictures? Holding a large tablet to take pictures feels awkward IMO.

      • I had to sit a few rows back behind someone in NZ using an ipad to record a show. Not only was it blocking other people's view behind, it left a bright 10 inch image in the field of view. I didn't bother taking pictures or video with this image in front of me.

  • Thanks, been keeping my eye out for a good price on this model.. now, to pull the trigger or not…

  • -1

Comments above mentioned, the back is plastic, but I read that it is actually Aluminum alloy.

    • +1

having had one in my hands - it is plastic

  • Can anyone comment on the battery life? I'd like to know if it's a worth while upgrade from a Cube U30GT (it still performs well, but I'd love to have a much higher res screen for reading).

  • How does it compare with Ainol Spark as in http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97284?

    • +1

Depends on your usage. The Spark would be more suited for reading while Ramos for movies. Battery life on Spark MIGHT be a little better. Performance on Ramos currently better than Spark because Ainol are bad with software updates.

    • +1

It won't create sparks in your Ainol?

  • How easy are they to write notes using a stylus ?

  • cheaper here in dhgate

    Items Subtotal:US $242.00
    ( 1 Items )
    Shipping Cost:US $0.00
    Grand Total:
    US $242.00

wont buy better options mainly support at fractionally higher prices

    • +1

maybe ask them to beat the price :P , seriously

    • +2

DHgate has no Paypal. Wouldn't want to give them my credit card details.

    • I've had nothing but trouble with sellers on dhgate. I would only consider dhgate if there were no other options. Their feedback ratings can't be trusted.

  • What happens with warranty on this thing? Would you have to ship it back to Banggood?

  • Seems great except for the crappy front facing camera. Why make such a great tablet that is almost useless to use for Skype? Would probably cost less than $5 to have put in a good front facing camera.

  • I dont think Jelly Bean 4.1 is actually available for this device yet? Can anyone else confirm?

    • Directly from Ramos sale: 'Android 4.1 JellyBean for w30hd will be released very soon. Check back often. Ramos-Sale'

      • I don't think Ramos-sale is actually run by Ramos. It may be though.

  • +1
  • +1

    Ramos W30HD or Cube RK3188

Both retina display, quad core, 2gb ram.

Which one is better build quality and of less issues?

  • I've got a cheap android phone but the GPS seems to only locate me to within a 1km radius… sadly it also seems like google maps will be my most used app… wish I'd gotten an optimus L7 instead for $200 from dicksmith.

Anybody know if I can get a little add-on device to boost GPS?

    • firstly, wrong topic? why you posting about your phone here in this tab post?

i have a bluetooth GPS, but would imagine you'd need drivers to get it working on a phone, other than that, have you got the GPS sensor enabled, have you downloaded a "GPS status" app?, first connection can take quite a few minutes
the GPS status app will be good as it will tell you if it can track any satellites at all…
