  • So, is Apple iWork comparable with MS Works, or MS Office (, or neither)?
    [ :- { )

    • +2

iwork is apple's equivalent of MS office. It contains numbers ( excel), pages ( word) ,keynote ( powerpoint). Works only on Mac OSX operating system.

    • Doesn't have that Access and one note though… even though I assume most users only uses word, excel, and power point?

  • Awesome, just ordered… RRP on this is $129. I suspect someone has made a mistake!

  • just ordered. thanks for the heads up… ;)

  • Nice one! Thanks :)

  • +2

    Nice one =]

You can reduce the shipping from $13.50 to $9.90 if you change it from Air to Road shipping.

And if your in a hurry to use the program, you can download the 30 day free trial from the apple website and pop the code in when the pack arrives later.

    • Replace "When" with "If" and you've got a finished sentence :D

Good luck guys, this is a little too Dell like for me.

  • I still can't believe this. This is kinda too good to be true isn't this?

  • gosh! can't help to pick one up even tho I have MS Office.

  • Just ordered 10. Wondering how could the sales team deal with that….lol

  • Yeah, I suspect they wont honor this but I put my order in!

  • Is it maybe the 30 Day Demo Version? $5 to cover handling fees?

    • Then you should be entitled to your money back as they have not labeled anywhere that its the demo.

    • i have printed out the screen of the page.

  • I dont have apple but obviously I can resell it with this price :)
    lol

    • EBAY WILL BE FLOODED LOL

  • iWork 09 Demo is free from Apple website
I don't think they can sell demo for $$ anyway
This world be a huge mistake
Not sure if they will honor this deal

  • I'm waiting for the confirmation e-mail and debit to the CC, but the funny thing is that the website says it's only sold through Powerhouse!

"This item can only be purchased from a Dick Smith PowerHouse store".

Then why can we buy it on the website cart? :)

    • check the ilife 09 page, you will see it is the same as the iwork one.

      • Sorry are you saying iLife is $5 as well? I can't see it…. please clarify

  • Just to state another obvious fact:
"Sorry, all Retail Stores are currently out of stock."

  • +1

    Online Shop:

In Stock. Available for despatch. Please allow a minimum of 3-4 working days for delivery.

    Retail Stores:

(Stores in italics have 2 or less in stock. Please phone the store you intend to visit to ensure they still have stock. We will not ship or transfer this product to another Store.)

Sorry, all Retail Stores are currently out of stock.

  • Strange that I got the confirmation email but it does not show up in my orders on the dse website. Anyone experience that?

  • It takes a while for them to process the order once they process it, it will appear in there.

  • I suspect that this is only the media set without VLA. If not there is a big mistake! $129 RRP for $5?! It would be the best deal in OZbargain history!(-:

  • what's VLA

    • Volume License Agreement

  • Lol - given this has been posted on many other forums (including a MAC one I subscribe too) I feel another Dell 'deal' coming on….

    • +1

Yep my Vostro will be here any minute now!

  • +1

Ordered! Hell, it'll make a good birthday present for a Mac owner, assuming they honor it!

  • Only one set of postage charges for multiple copies!

    I got 5 copies for $25.00 plus $9.90 postage = $34.90

    Thanks for the deal mate.

  • Hmm. I'm abit hesitant to buy this. Money is tight and so far I've been using the trial version with no problems.

I got this advice from a Mac Genius:

Download the legitimate trial from Apple.com and paste this into terminal:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.Installer InstallMode -string 'Retail'.

I was not asked for any serial, and it starts up fine. I'm just wondering what happens 30 days from now. fingers crossed
    Great deal though.

    • +1

Apparently the retail version does not need a serial number so maybe this is a workaround
so that your copy will think that it's a retail version rather than a downloaded one.
Downloaded one will still need a serial number.

    • After running the command

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork09.Installer InstallMode -string ‘Retail’

my trial iwork does not work now, it needs to be reinstalled?

  • Price changed. Looks like they found out

  • Noticed that they have now updated the website … so one could argue the link was for the full reatil version … just in case you get a demo disc or some such

  • Time to send this guy some enquiries?

  • Yep, offer expired on this one guys. Price is now $128 thus it must be the single user version that DSE are selling instead of the 'family' version, which has 5 licenses.

  • perhaps we will get the email regarding the error and refund.

  • +5

    OMG DSE website is down.
You guy killed dick smith, you bastards! lol.

  • I went to go into the T&Cs but it came up saying the Store is Closed.
"Our web site is temporarily unavailable, while a scheduled content update occurs."

    They must be freaking out.

  • Just wait and see what will happen

  • I checked the T&C on website and it said nothing.

  • +1

haha work experience kid just got fired (or they found the 'present' left by the disgruntled former employee).

I hope you guys get it for $5. :)

    • hahaha prob a newbie,

anyways hope you guys get it

  • +1

how long do they usually ship the product?

    • -1

Your message makes no sense. I'll answer anyway. 1-3 business days so if you ordered yesterday you should receive well before week's end.

      • +1

Sigh. It was pretty obvious what he was trying to say. No need to nit pick.

  • I did manage to snatch an actual copy for $5. I went to Chatswood Powerhouse and showed the computer guy the webpage and although he was reluctant at first, in the end he did price match it with the webpage :D

    • wow, you must be super lucky, I price matched twice with legitimate printed offer from JB and Toy'r'us. This Chatswood store manager refused to match and kept giving me much higher price. I just don't see their point, simply wasting my time.

    • I suspect that guy is getting a real shafting now. Good move though. Alot of us should have done that.

  • Hey Erkel,
Would you be able to post a link to your screen shot of the page at $5ea?
Thanks - I'd like to try what you did. :)

    • +1

      Hi bizi,
I uploaded mine copy of screen shot here,
      http://yimingdong.googlepages.com/XS1240.pdf
which store r u going to try? MoorePARK?

    • I didn't have any printouts with me. I just went to the store, asked the comp guy can he match prices that's on the DSE website. He said of course and I showed him the iWork page when it was still at $5. And he reluctantly matched it for me :D

  • Something has been changed

    "Online Shop:

This product is only available to personal shoppers at Dick Smith Electronics PowerHouse Stores."

  • Anyone have paid for this? DSE hasnt debit the amount from my account yet….

  • Hi yiming, thanks for the pdf - I'll try the city shops in case they have stock. :)
No CC debit yet, which is why I'm thinking that you're one of the lucky ones.

    • NO CC debit either.

      • Paid by direct deposit they have my payment haha

  • George St Powerhouse will not sell for $5, despite being told that Chatswood sold for this price, today.
The excuse is that the error was corrected 8PM last night, so even a printed page will not be accepted.

    Try PH shops elsewhere!

    • MoorePark PH shop dosent have any stock on shelf. The mgr said "there must be something wrong with the price".

    • Don't think showing a printout will work. I was lucky because I actually showed the sales guy the webpage when it had the $5 price.

  • Anyone who put an order in over the net got a response back from DSE yet?

  • no response here~~

    Apology Notice

    Dear Valued Customer,

We regretfully are not able to supply Apple iWork 09 (XS1240) at the advertised price of $5 as this was a system error. All measures are in place to ensure this does not occur again. No charges have been placed against your credit card.

If you still would like to purchase Apple iWork 09, we can provide this at cost price for only $103.40. This offer will be available for the next 2 weeks. Terms and conditions apply, see below for details.

A link to the Apple iWork 09 product page with the discounted price of $103.40 can be found here.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.

    Kind regards

    Dick Smith

    • +1

      $103.4 + $9.9 shipping = $113.3, you can say it is 10% off Apple's price since Apple ships free @ $129

  • Just got an email. Not honoring it. Will sell at cost price ($104 but).

  • As we got the email, can we sell the option in front of the stock in powerhouse LOL!

  • While I wish I had managed to score a copy of iWork for $5, I am not angry.

Unlike Wishlist (who skipped the card authorisation step, took my money, and then did not refund straight away), DSE did not take my money.

  • You can contact the manager via email [email protected]

  • George St Powerhouse in Sydney would sell for $95.

After the excuses there for not selling it (due to a system error, since corrected), I was expecting a similar refusal to sell today.

Well done, yiming1982… did you get the last ones? :)

    • nope,I got the same apoplogy email.:(, I have 20 options to buy iWork 09 at AU$104 now….Who want them…lol

  • A good finding though…. Well done. I got the same email from dicksmith manager…

  • Can anyone give me the link to buy it at $104? I'm interested but didn't get the chance to try to buy at $5.

  • Did anyone get these via mail? I paid by DD and have not received merchandise or refund (or email!). kthks.

  • Still no email or merchandise … ??
