  • Excludes the Samsung Chromebook too, unfortunately. The Acer one is on sale at $238, but doesn't have an SSD.

    • It sure does :| Also, here in the ACT there is no banner ad. saying 20% off computers?! It just seems that the prices of some of the computers are 20% of full ticket.

Anyone else not getting the ad? The reason I ask is because I would say that we should be entitled to 20% off the Samsung Chromebook too, provided it's not mentioned in the fine print.

    • Single screw, and it pops open.
It has two SODIMM sockets, so you can have up to 2 x 8g = 16G ram in it.
Replace the HD with a $99 SSD if you really need to.

      Its a nice CB indeed.

      Worth it.

      • ralx - the target market for chromebooks don't really worry about tech specs and don't want to run it as a cheap laptop. The Acer is thicker and heavier than the Samsung, and has a shorter battery life, and a more dated design. It will likely perform less snappily as it doesn't have an SSD, and the spinning-platter hard drive can be damaged if knocked or dropped.

    • Hey guys, I emailed JB online support and was told to email order ID and they will manually apply the 20% discount. If anyone needs a copy of the email, feel free to PM me. Hope that helps!

      • hi mustard,
Are you talking about the Samsung Chromebook?

        • yep

        • The stores won't do it though… so I think only online.

        • cool… so what did you actually do? Use the contact form on their website? Did you order online first?

        • Yeah, I emailed support and asked them if it was applicable, they replied saying that it was but that the discount was already applied. I then asked why the price was the same as the RRP and they replied telling me to email them the order ID number and they would manually honour the discount. I've decided not to get one though, even after all the trouble!

        • Hmm ok.. I used the contact form to ask them why it was excluded when it wasn't listed in the email. Seems a bit misleading. I'm still on the fence about getting one too!

        • Yeah, from calling all the stores close to me, I gather that the official promo poster they have says it excludes the Chromebooks, but the online banner doesn't have anything like that. Waiting for the Chromebooks to be developed a bit more before I bite the bullet!

      • Thanks for letting us know about that. Pity that it's such a hassle. I would have happily walked into my local store and bought one :(

  • Damn if chromebooks are so cheap, why don't they sell Ubuntu laptops with x86-64 or x86!

The evil chromebooks require flashing of the bios, or experimental Frankenstein builds before you can install Windows 8 on it.

It shows us how cheap these products really should be.

No wonder on taobao they are selling laptops for $100. Pain in the bum to get a warranty though.

  • can someone give me their opinions on the Alienware X51?

    • Pretty good. No where near the value of a self or crazy online builder, but it's well built, quiet and reasonably attractive (660 Graphics should be fine for 1080p on your TV with most settings on high/ very high). Also the warranty is at least 2 years, perhaps 3, for that price (see "Consumer Guarantees").

  • most of the notebooks are junk. no graphics dedicated. just the old standard inbuilt shared graphics

  • +1

Is it just me or is JB-Hifi prices no longer competitive even with these discounts?

  • 20% off computers you don't want, awesome…JB you've done it again
