PRE-ORDER: HTC One 4G LTE Silver 32GB $698 + Shipping or Free Pickup @ Harvey Norman

460

I've been waiting for this phone for so long, finally it's coming soon.
Yesterday Harvey Norman updated their price from $849 to $698 (32GB),
Still no info on the 64GB one, I don't think it's gonna arrive soon.
Techdot is selling the grey import version (will arrive mid April) for $689 (for me it's $709 delivered), which is the cheapest Australian store I've seen so far, but not open for preorders at the moment because there's not enough HTC One's to sell.
Mobicity is selling it for $759, grey import.
Many eBay sellers are selling it for $799, grey import too, from the UK.

If you're looking for AU stock then Harvey Norman's price would be a pretty good deal, considering it's not even out in Australia yet.

UPDATE - Asked Harvey Norman when I will be able to get the phone, they said to me that I will be able to get it on release day, which is 23 April. I cannot guarantee that though, because I find Harvey Norman's staffs extremely unreliable most of the time.

  • Nice price for AU stock

    • Pre-order price too! The XZ was $750 pre order, and $624 on local release.

So HO should drop to about $599 on release lol.

      • That's possible, but I doubt it though, as Sony isn't as big in the smartphone market, at least in Australia I think.

  • Damn, should I buy this or a SGS4.
    Such a hard choice. I've been through SGS1, SGS2, SGS3 and I also have a HTC HD2 running JB.
I've never been so torn in my life!

    So closely matched
    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5125&idPhone2=…

    • i simply chose HTC cause I don't like Samsung. If you're used to the Galaxy series and TouchWiz, and don't want to change then why don't you stick with it?
If you want something new then you should try the One, you might like it, if not you can always flash custom roms, I personally like HTC sense though.

I would probably go with HTC. I personally use nokia lumia 920. but from my xp with Samsung and htc on my previous phones, it seems htc actually gives a crap about its customers i.e updates quicker and the build quality will be much better. Samsung is just plastic. and tbh I don't need facial recognition on my phone lol how Samsung is trying to sell it.
htc has got a lot more to loose if they don't support their phone. so I think that's the pick.

      • +1

HTC must give a crap about customers if they still havent fixed battery issues!

        • I think there's no battery issues on the One?

        • Reports and benchmarks show theres still abit of an issue with it. Cannot go a full day. Ontop of that, htc didnt fix the lack of an sd card which is fundamental in all potentials for smartphones.

They may have upped the design to their credit,
Still alot of internals to fix.

        • I guess I still have to get my hands on it to know for sure, but GSMArena's battery life test shows the One is actually not bad.
          See here

    • If you LIKE the Galaxy range, there is no reason that you won't like the new S4. It's essentially more of the same; UI looks exactly like it did on the S1 (look at the system apps). You will get a nicer screen and supposedly a better camera with more options. You won't be disappointed.

The HTC on the other hand has pulled out all the stops on the HTC One.

    • +6

If I were you, I'd go with S4. All your multimedia files from your S3 stored in your microSD card can be transferred to S4 in seconds. With HTC One, it may take hours to transfer it. I personally prefer expandable memory and removable battery over aluminium unibody since I will always put a case on it.

      • ^^^ Great point!

    • +5

If I have to decide between the hottest new phone on the market and a phone that looks just like my old phone I would be torn too..

    • To me the answer to that question ids as simple as the answer to the following: do you like sense?
      Yes? Get it!
      No? Forget about it.

      :-)

  • +1

My phone isn't that old but if it broke or got lost, this'd be the phone I'd get.

  • I've got a Sammy s 3 which is a great phone but from a design point of view the one is the most beautiful phone one market. Harvey Norman deal looks good

  • Clove.co.uk are selling at 425 GBP = $635 approx, about $670 delivered. Site says the grey version should ship withing 14 days so could mean you get it earlier and slightly cheaper.

Must admit $698 is a damn good local price, especially if you can salary sacrifice! :)

    • The thing about this deal is, you get local warranty and you'll get the phone on the launch day, 23rd April.

  • Great, pre-ordered!

  • +1 for it being the best AU stock price and only $10 more than grey import.

However, I fully expect the grey import price to drop to a significantly better price in the months to come.

  • +1

Samsung better keep their eyes on these prices otherwise they're going to lose market share.

    • Samsung will be on top of it, don't you worry. The S3 was a more expensive phone than One X, but its price dropped faster than the One X and more often than not could be found cheaper than it.

The same will probably happen again.

      • +7

        Well, plastic IS cheaper :)

        • Yea, not to mention s4 and s3 probably share some of the components.

  • +1

I'm waiting for the HTC First Facebook phone instead! said no-one ever….

    • You are joking right… this is no april fool anymore.. wonder if anyone buying that shit

  • Free Pickup?!
    +!!!

  • +3

Finally finally it's arriving on shores! The only thing HTC ever needs is marketing. Good phones deserve to be known.

  • I would pre-order if we could get a better idea on release date. It's releasing to carriers on 23 April, but no mention of places like HN.

Not to mention I haven't had the best experiences with HN online recently trying to get a Vivotab Smart keyboard.

    • I asked them and they said the phone will be available on release day, 23 April.

  • I have the one x for a year now and before that galaxy s1 s2 and galaxy nexus. HTC blew me away with the super lcd screen. Was a great fan of AMOLED before until I saw the colour and brightness of HTC. I would have bought this if I had the cash :-(

  • Awesome price for local stock! (That is if Harvey Norman actually delivers)

For whoever is sitting on the fence:
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6747/htc-one-review

I don't remember them EVER awarding a mobile device with an editor choice, must be something really special.

My one caveat is don't buy it if you want to root out run custom ROMs, or at least without being happy to forgo warranty.

    • Unless you know someone in the US

Seriously this is the coolest thing ever, a phone maker selling sim and bootloader unlocked is amazing

      http://www3-shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.ht…

Sidenote: Why do i keep seeing people saying GS4 has a better screen , people are seriously in the dark. both are 1080p and the 5" is bigger than 4.7" not better its personal preference.
The One X SLCD2 Screen is truely the best mobile screen I have seen and Im sure SLCD 3 on the One is the new king.

      • Do you know what kind of warranty the developer version comes with? That could potentially be a winner!

      • Keep in mind that the Dev version does not support 4G in AU, but 3G would work if you are not interested in using 4G LTE.

  • the camera on the s4 is better even in lower light conditions where the htc was meant to dominate with its supposedly ultra pixel… read the reviews! other than its quality which is way better than the s4 it has nothing going for it really

    • This varies depending on snaps of different reviewers, but check out the video stabilisation on the One, clear winner for taking short films (camera isn't only for stills!) Also the field of view is much bigger which is pretty cool.

  • If you can handle windows the nokai lumias win but otherwise go for the HTC… I got too see a demo model in my work at optus and its amazing… "moving pictures when viewing your camera roll" - dedicated news homepage/feed thing which is amazing.. !! Can't describe it tbh… Very handy thow…

  • sol3x is right, all HTC needs is marketing, maybe people will finally see what good products that they bring to us and how much they actually care. I really hope HTC does well with the One, they really need it and IMHO they deserve it.

I was very close to upgrading my HTC Incredible S but for some reason HTC have downgraded from an 8 to 5 megapixel main camera with the HTC One.

I know it's a phone and a 5mp is often enough but in my view it is a step backward - even if the video is now true Full HD.

    • I depends on what you are using the phone camera for. I doubt that you're printing out Incredible S's photos as big posters. If you only upload them to Facebook, they are automatically compressed anyway.

    • +2

The whole point they are making with the One is that the megapixel war has gone out of hand and there are other elements just as important in determining the quality of the camera. Please inform yourself and don't propagate the "more megapixels mean better camera mentality"!

I can assure you a 1000% the camera will be much better on the One, in fact it will probably be the best all-rounder in this crop of Android phones due to their very brave decision to quit the megapixel race and concentrate on other things that matter more.

HTC One has 5UP (ultrapixel) not MP..a different technology..

  • lol, no, it's not a different technology at all.

It's simply a 4MP Sensor, in the same sensor size. = larger elements = higher light sensitivity..

You sacrifice very little ging to 4MP from 13MP for good lighting situations, because 13MP is such overkill on a phone camera's optics, and for the intended use (i.e, most people are not cropping the shit out of photos) , yet gain noticeably better performance in Low light. That's why they did this.

    • Yes, I can confirm the camera technically is only 4 megapixels.

  • $579 US + delivery - http://shopamerica.htc.com/cell-phones/productdetail.htm?prI…

You will need to use a mail forwarding service like www.shipito.com and it will be $25USD in shipping. With current exchange rate = $585 AUD delivered.

    • and LTE won't work in Australia

    • And you'd have to ship it back there for warranty.

  • +1

Hey guys, if any of you are ordering from the UK, like from Clove or Handtec, it is very likely that the phone won't work properly in Australia, only 2G Edge works here. (3G 2100 is not yet tested, so Optus might work) Info from whirlpool

  • As much as I was wanting to preorder this, the fact that HN want to charge my CC in full at time of online ordering with no comment as to when the phone will be available (they specifically stated they can't guarnatee date of release) has put me off the idea and I'll just wait for it to be available and shop around.

I spoke with Telstra on their online chat function and was told that the outright price for this on launch day would be $552. I find this very hard to believe. The guy was adament. I will wait for launch day and see.

    • I decided to activate price protection on my CC the day before pre-purchasing this phone (not at HN) in case of such an event occuring in the next 6 months (highly likely). I decided to do this in the end as it will be a gift for my son's birthday the end of next week and seemed the best option in getting it in time from initial stock. We'll see if it's released on time.

    • I call BS but as per your suggestion let's wait and see…

      • I will be popping in to see them tomorrow afternoon to see what the price will be. Anyone know the release price?

    • Called Telstra today and asked. They looked at the price list there is a htc oneS at $552. i am assuming someone has mixed them up

      • lolololol

So how much is the HTC One?

        • $768

  • +1

    Telstra want $750

    • Not toooo bad compared to some of their other handset prices…

  • So who does the cheapest HTC one outright?

  • FYI got this today and they're still giving this price
