The calculations on the value are sort of irrelevant as you MUST have a 24 month contract. The actual minimum cost is $1680 over 2 years with a $600/mth call value, unlimited text and 1GB data.

Alternatively you can get this (without "free" headphones) with Virgin for $1080 over 2 years with a $250/mth calls, unlimited text and 250GB data. If you were to use the same maths to calculate the value of the phone as the OP does this is only $384 for the phone. If you go with Virgin's $62/mth deal ($700 calls, 3GB) and use OP's maths, it's only $72 for the phone.

      that should be 250MB…

      • Oopsie doodle…

Imma leave it. If I say it here, Virgin have to honour it… right?

      • Haha was tempted when i saw 250gb but seems impossible.

SO have u taken into account the coverage of Telstra vs virgin?

As that has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm saying, no.

My point is about minimum payment and calculating the value of the phone, not which deal is better.

    • Brain ANEURYSM!

      • Aneurysms are lethal…
I prefer to call them brain farts. Sounds much more plausible.

It depends on what monetary value you put on the call plans and how much you calling/data you do. The Telstra plan with $600/mth calls is $50 a month for the plan. If you think you're getting better value out of that than the $29 for $250/mth on Virgin, then go for it. But personally, 250MB a month of data is not enough for me, so I would need to go up to a higher plan. At the same time, I don't make near $600 worth of calls either, so the Telstra plan is overkill.

What I'm looking for a is a low call charge PAYG plan with ~ 500MB to 1GB of free data a month. It doesn't exist though as far as I know. TPG is close but I only get 150MB a month, which is nothing.

For this phone, I would be waiting until it drops to $550 unlocked (I don't care about these overrated headphones).

But because I got a One X less than a year ago, I think I will skip this generation and wait for next year's phones.

      • My point was about the OP's calculation of what you're paying for the phone, nothing more. I was not saying one deal was better or worse or that the deals were even comparable - simply using an example to demonstrate that using the $20-on-top-of-a-plan figure is a completely useless way of valuing what you pay for the phone.

They are Beats Solo not Studio. Big difference. Also it costs $10p/m on the $60 plan

    • Telstra Plan is $50 if you bring your own phone, $70 with the HTC One

  • bought it from amazonUK for approx. $650 and received a free HTC media link

sold the media link on ebay for $85

finally I only paid $565 for this phone!

    • but amazon UK means warranty is a headache ~

      • I've found amazon to be fairly good, pay for return shipping. Repairs/replacement doesn't take long. Your without a phone for 2 weeks though.

        • you're without a phone for longer than two weeks if you get it repaired by HTC Oz.

We've made it this far without an obligatory insult to Beats? Impressive.

I was going to order this phone with Optus (under the 25% discount for broadband/home user option) on a $50+$8 plan (works to $30.50 for me with the 25% off) and I saw this. I went online, had a sales rep on chat came and I asked if he would give me the headset like Telstra. Unfortunately, it was not possible, but he gave me $100 credit on my 24 month plan that I gladly took :) (note: Last time I got this headset, we sold it on e-bay for $110, solo is certainly not worth $249)

Thanks for this post (got $100 credit) and hopefully others can do the same with Optus or a carrier of your choice.
