Samsung Galaxy S II Plus 8GB Unlocked (Black) $285 with Free Shipping

160

Pretty good price on the S2 which is getting a bit old but is still a great phone. The "Plus" refers to it having Jelly Bean pre-installed, which gives it pretty much the same UI and features as the S3, but in a more compact form which some people may prefer. Please note the Plus model has only 8GB internal storage vs 16GB on the regular SII. Ships in 3-5 business days according to their website.

I personally have not shopped from Value Basket before so can't give you any feedback. If anyone else has experience with them please share with fellow Ozbargainers.

EDIT: Just saw the Galaxy SII (16GB) is $288 shipped from Kogan, so that is probably a better deal, as you can upgrade to Jelly Bean via Samsung Kies software on your PC.

  • No bad, only 5 in stock, anyone with reviews on these chaps… ?

    • Good phone, but it's 2 years old. I'm surprised they still make them.

Samsung is taking the scattergun approach so I'm not surprised these are still around and in production. Are the S1's still in production?

      • I'm surprised there's an 8GB version S2.
        My S1 was 16GB.

Quite a good price I would say, but important to note that this is not actually the same as the S2 which is i9100. This is S2 Plus which is i9105.

    Specs comparison

edit: After reading the review of the phone on GSMArena, it seems that it's not much different to the original S2. The name suggests otherwise!

  • Just noticed this is only 8GB internal storage vs 16GB for the Kogan model. I would probably go with the Kogan deal….seems a better option, as you can upgrade to Jelly Bean via Samsung Kies software on your PC.

I'd go with the older version, I'm not really sure what's so 'Plus' about this. It would've been great if they bumped up the screen resolution a little. I still prefer the S2 form factor over the S3 or S4. An S2 with a slightly bigger screen and with better specs would be sweet.

That said, not a bad price for a phone that's still good compared to the newer phones.

Lame.. S3 now less than 100$ more. Why would u bother with this phone for the price. Try 150$

    • fair point

Yes. You really would be better with the Nexus 4 for $350, the Razr V for $199, or even the LG Optimus 4X for $320 (quad core).

      • What if someone wanted a removable battery and extendable memory? That rules out Nexus 4 for many people. Razor V has terrible update service and battery. LG costs $40 more, for a bit more you could have a SGS3. I'm not saying this is a better deal than any of the phones you mention, just that its not as black or white as you make it out to be.

        • Battery on razr v is fine by my reckoning, i get over 2 days with wifi and latitude turned off

        • That's a lot better than my nephew gets, he's a heavy user though. He complains about getting a dead battery by 2pm.

  • Great phone at a great price, Will buy a couple of these as gifts if they reach 200$

Can any one still find the HTC velocity @ 200$ anywhere in Kmart or DS?

    • I would say don't go with Velocity. I bought one from KMART. It is battery drainer and phone grip is really death grip. I would not advise Velocity to anyone.

      • +1 . The phone does not even last 12 hours on 3G only if your a heavy user. Rubbish HTC device.

        • Thanks for the feedback on the HTC guys.

  • i9105 is the best phone I've had (in it's era) it's still a great phone today but it's obviously a little bit dated. Still, it should outperform most phones in that price range.

guys please check the listing again on the website

it refers to PLUS SIM FREE and not SII PLUS

      From the description:

"The Samsung GALAXY S II Plus combines the performance that have made the GALAXY S II one of the world's most recognized phones, together with nature-inspired user-interface and intuitive features that greatly boost its usability and functionality."

For $100 more you could get an S3 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/99453. I don't think more $200 is a reasonable price for such an old phone. (I think it's a great phone and actually is my current phone, but +$200 is IMO a bit overpriced).

While I really like the phone, I agree with you and I personally wouldn't pay more than $200 for it. But if you check out eBay, they're buying them used for just over $200. My mate just sold his for $220 and it wasn't even in the best shape. People like the phone I guess.

I actually cracked the screen on my S2 last year and was able to sell it for $200. Crazy.

Its a Dual-Core Chip faster, slimmer and on par with the iPhone 4S, so I'm not surprised people still want it, since the 4S costs $400+…

No Corning Gorilla Glass! not worth it.

I hear the gpu is a bit weaker on the s2 plus, compared to the s2

    http://www.techenclave.com/news/analyzing-the-new-samsung-ga…

    • "To the more knowledgeable, they will crib about the weaker chipset but most of the crowd couldn’t be less concerned…"

Oh yes we would when paying $15 off $300 mark… lol

      Nice find loremoon !
