  • Just got a couple (one for my dad), from Fortitude Valley Post office. I went to the GPO in brisbane this morning and they rung them to put them on hold for me. Awesome service by them to do so even though they've had a heap of people come in looking for them. Apologies to any OzBargainers who missed out!

Device looks great for what it is, it amazes me that for $100 I can get a device that can access the internet most places in brisbane. I hope more similar tablets end up around this price!

  • +2

worthy temporary device for me to last until asus transformer with tegra2 drop below 150. Thanks to gmore for being the 1st aus post poster :) Now, waiting for my screen protector, jelly case, and soft pocket case to arrive before bringing it out to have a walk. For thise who r interested with the items, here is some link:

Is it necessary to get a class 10 micro sdhc for V9?

    • +1

Class 2 is enough, class 4 is good if you take photos on it. Class 10? save the money and get a bigger one

  • Bought one around 11 am from auspost in surry hills, sydney. The price was already ticketed to $99.

  • Bought two from auspost Bankstown, 13# staff very helpful in putting them aside. According to DSE headoffice, 1300 units have been allocated to stores but dont know if they have reduced the price yet.
    Looks like a great device

  • Got mine at hillsdale southpoint postoffice this morning. They still have 1 stock left.

  • none left @ GPO brisbane

  • Picked up one at Fremantle Post Office this morning - apparently the last one! Thanks gmore!
Price was ticketed as $149 but scanned at $99.

  • what's the difference between the two upgrade packages (besides network settings)?
My Tab 2.2 Pre-Paid Upgrade vs My Tab 2.2 Post-Paid Upgrade??

If the tab is unlocked ares there any problems going with the lastest one (My Tab 2.2 Post-Paid Upgrade)??

    • nope , unlocking doesnt affect firmware at all.

and also, the only differences are probably just the settings which youre using to acceess the internet, so pre-paid should work perfectly for everyone.

  • My Younger Bro just picked up the last one from Toowoomba BC PostOffice
None left in the whole Darling Downs area!

  • does anyone know how charging works? i connected it up to the wall but the manual says that there should be a battery icon on screen i should be seeing, but all i see is a red solid light at the bottom.

    • battery indicator is only there when turned on, takes ages for red light to turn green

      • so the little red LED eventually turns green? i read somewhere that red < 10% orange < 90% and green < 100% so i was worrying for a second.

        • i read that too, but last night when i charged mine for the fisrt time it stayed red for a couple of hours then next time i looked it was green, so doubt i missed 80% of orange

  • Got two from Australia Post Rockingham, WA. They still have a few in stock.

  • Just got one from Epping Victoria Oz Post. Ticketed at $99, mind you shop assist had no idea what it was. BigW and Dicks here don't appear to have them in stock, and Telechoice priced at $149. Big thanks to poster of Aus Post info.

Edit - not sure why this has posted twice.

    • haha yeah , the manager at QVB Sydney told the trainee go get the tab of the table that he put aside, she kept saying she couldnt find a phone lol.

  • Seems to me that on purchase there are three things to do re the OS:
    - unlock
    - root
    - update to 2.2 (or 2.3??)

Does it matter in what order one does these? Something I read suggested rooting is easier in 2.1 than in 2.2 so is it therefore best to do these things in order above? Or onc e you update to 2.2 do you then have to root that? Will the 2.2 updates on ZTE website work on a rooted pad?

  • To save people the time, in Melbourne:

    • Elizabeth st post office is sold out and won't be getting any more.
    • Dicksmith is sold out in ALL VIC stores. (a few stores not in CBD are showing 1 in stock but they are most likely display units)
    • Optus store I checked on my walk are sold out but are getting more tomorrow or on Monday.
  • Are we expecting the Optus website to have them? Can't really get away from uni and work to go buy one.

Also can anyone confirm the SIM card has no expiration? (I.e. assuming you don't activate it and use it, you can activate it a year down the track?)

    • i rang optus yesterday and over the phone they will only do postpaid i think it is $30 a month, not sure on your activation question

    • the sim card expires jan 2012, stamped on the back of the sim pack.

  • …or els order some from uniquemobiles. They are offering free shipping for purchase over 150 bucks.

  • I am really hoping to get one from DSE so I can use the $50 Amex rebate (and 3% MoneyBackCo), does anyone know for sure if DSE will be getting these back in stock? I asked a couple of stores and they said they are but don't know when.

    • I asked DSE Indooroopilly (Brisbane) store on Saturday, and the sales said they were getting new stock this week.

    • How will you get 3% MoneyBackCo? Online purchase?

  • Don't you have to spend $250 in a single transaction to get $50 amex rebate?

    • Yep, 3% MoneyBackCo via online purchase (free delivery for purchase over $100). Was planning on getting some other stuff from DSE to get over $250.

      • OK, i see. The problem is you might get price match in store, but with online purchase you probably won't be able to get it for $99. I want to buy one via the AMEX promotion too. Let's wait and see.

        • Why not buy from uniquemobiles? For purchase over $150, free shipping.

        • Pretty sure DSE will have to sell these at $99 to match the rest. Hope so anyway, otherwise I will just buy instore (pricematch) and miss out on MoneyBackCo.

  • I just got one from St Lucia (actually UQ) PO. There is still one more. And the sales actually interested to get one himself and asked me to give him feedback after i use this.

  • Hi, is the one in post need to pay to unlock? The one I get from post says it locked to optus for 12 month or you have to pay $100 to unlock.

    • you can buy unlock code in the ebay for $1.99

    • +1

or use this site http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/ for free.

      choose ZTE then Blade

(As posted before in this thread, thanks to original poster).

      • -1

There is no ZTE V9 in This site

        • +2

I've unlocked two today using the "Blade Android" model.
          It works.

        • +1

Agree with smackus, Blade Android works.

  • Does anyone know where there are more in WA? Called 131318 and they told me stock in Morley, Mirrabooka etc but just been there and none available. So have you been somewhere that still has stock?

    • apparently some woman put all 3 on hold at the Morley PO one this morning :(

  • Went to Auspost Moonee Ponds none left. Checked out Auspost Highpoint and bought one, they only have two left at 3:30pm today.

  • I am thinking of sell the sim, as i already have a data package with my mobile. How much do you guys think the sim worth? 3GB data + $25 call + 100 SMS and 3-month expiry.

    • Buy it off you for 10 incl postage?

  • +1

Canberra - I just checked Woden and no stores have any. BigW are getting 5 on Friday. I'll be getting mine online. I'll add this comment to the other post, it might save some people some time.

    • +1

Optus stores are out all over CBR too. Just confirmed that with a friend/employee.

  • AusPost in Parramatta Westfield, Parramatta BC and Auburn have no stock - expecting more either end of this week or early next week.

Optus Sydney CBD and Parramatta have stock but said price not live till tomorrow so come back then else pay $149 now - and one manager even went so far as to say AusPost and BigW were not supposed to slash it until tomorrow based on some agreement.. ya-hunh… anyway good luck to all who already nabbed a new toy :)

    • Visited Auspost Parramatta and was told there was one, but someone had bought it earlier today. They said they couldn't guarantee if they would be receiving further stock - but if they were it would be Friday/Monday.

The person I spoke to at Parramatta BC said they didn't have any and that someone had come around asking about the same thing, it was probably you lol

Optus Store Parramatta has 4 in stock and that price won't come into effect until tomorrow, the person I spoke to over the phone had no idea the price was due to come down.

      • LOL sprung! see you at the optus store nice and early tomorrow morning then :)

        • Luckily for me I reserved one yesterday, just picked mine up an hour ago =)

I was told all the tabs sold out this morning at Optus Parramatta.

  • +1

hey guys, just picked 2 from PO in mandurah WA, still got a few in stock and the lady at the counter said she would put one aside for her as well:) The screen is not that good i should say due to big pixel and camera is crap as reviews, but all the others really good and match the $99. one tip for those who would like to buy from bigw tomor, if u r rac member, u ll get a 5% discount @ bigw (WWS aswell), so itll be an extra $4 off.

    • cheers for pointing out about the RAC member. I'll spend the $4 saving for a usb stick then :)

  • Does anyone know if it works without a SIM? ie does it say 'insert sim' when you boot it up and nothing else works?

    • +1

Nope, mine has been running without a SIM for ages, no problem at all.

It will also work with any other operator on the Optus network (like Virgin) without unlocking.

      And unlocking is free.

  • +1

First thing is upgrade to 2.2, huge performance increase.
Disable the animation in display setting.
    Very good Youtube toy.

Install the upnplay and you should be able to play video/music files on either on the phone or on your upmp/dlna server to either the phone or a dlna compatible render.
Install the moboplayer will enable you to play many different video formats which the default video player doesn't.
Might need to overclock a bit to play some videos smoothly.

  • Does anyone know if it works without a SIM? ie does it say 'insert sim' when you boot it up and nothing else works?

    • +2

Should still work, can use WIFI.

    • +2

yes it will work with out a sim card in it

  • +1

Bought a ZTE V9 today from my local Post Office. Was working well for an hour. I then turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. I thought it was the battery, so I charged it for a while. Turned it back on and the screen was still blank.

Going to bring it back tomorrow, hopefully I can just swap it over.

    • +1

try reseating the battery, remove battery wait 10 seconds then try ie replace battery, turn on etc

      • Done that multiple times.

I know the tablet turns on, when I power it on and wait a few seconds I can hear my emails coming through and also when I hit the hardware buttons, i.e the home, back and menu buttons it vibrates.

What I find weird is after I turn it on if I press the power button just once the LED lights flashes yellow.

  • +2

Just a warning to everyone who's planning to use the Optus SIM card, this tablet uses a standard SIM as stated in their site: http://www.zte.com.au/optus/faqs.htm#FAQ1. I just cut mine to micro size and now I'm having problem removing the Sim inside.

    • +1

yer call optus and they will send you out a replacement, I know this as I let my wife do her tablet. Optus will send you out a new one for free

      • please note sim removal is very hard in this tab , i use a small screw driver to remove the normal sim

        • My advice, when you put the SIM in, make sure it & your fingers are squeaky clean! Then, if you wanna pull it out later; with similarly clean fingers; you can get good purchase with your fingertips! :)

    • I did the exact same thing with the included optus SIM… had a bit of a scare while I tried to fish it back out with a tiny screwdriver. Eventually got it back out and just sat it back into the larger SIM push-out thing, whacked it back in no probs.

      • lease note sim removal is very hard in this tab , i use a small screw driver to remove the normal sim

For those looking at getting one from big w tomorrow, get in early. I called the two closest big w stores to me, one will have 7 for sale, and one will have 3!

  • Plants v Zombies does not work on this.
Very disappointing after setting up fake Amazon account and slow download.
    As in: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/45980

    • Do you want some help with it or are you just letting people know a particular game won't work?
I know that sounds sarcastic but it's a legit question, I'm just too tired to work out how to make it sound "nice".

      • Just warning people, as there is another ozbargain post about it being free today.
I was not expecting a solution, unless the authors debug it some more.
It has just been released, so fingers crossed for an update. Lots of people on Amazon report similar problems on other platforms.

  • Just a note to everyone that the Big W website has "finally" updated itself with the new $99 Sale price and is now "In Stock" for online purchases. Just in case you can't find it in store, get it while you can. The Optus website on the other hand still hasn't updated yet.

  • +2

    Thanks chuckie20.
Here's a link to the Optus MyTAB on Big W.

    • Spoke to Electronics Dept. at Big W CHULLORA, apparentely they are out of stock. The guy at the electronics dept. said they wouldn't be getting any "for awhile* . However, they still have the floor model available but apparentely, they don't sell 'em…

(PS. It's available online from Optus for same price!)

I picked one up with staff discount, $90. I don't even think this thing is worth $50, Probably expecting too much since I have an iPad.

    • +2

Well, I would've said the same thing about ipad, not worth the $500 asking price.
Considering the price, I'd say it's easily worth every cent of it.

      • Ipad 2 is from round 600 to 950. Definitely overpriced. And what does it have?

    • +1

Why get it then? Someone else (who missed out) would have appreciated it more and you could have used your money for something else.

    • And I'm assuming this is the exact reason you bought one - so you can gloat about its overpriced uselessness on online forums.

    • Does your iPad have 3G inbuilt? MyTab does at one sixth the price.

    • +4

I'm an original iPad owner and a self confessed Apple fan girl (Macbook Pro and iPhone), however, I am very impressed with this device for a mere $99. It has honestly made me start thinking Apple has brainwashed me! LOL

  • +1

    Happy hunting, people.

  • +1

Optus website has updated to $99, I've ordered one, but what's the deal with having to have the CC you paid and a 2nd ID when taking delivery?

    • +3

when i checked the Optus website - it said $99 but went to charge $149 when you click "Buy Now"

      • clean your cache? I definitely got it for $99.

        • I got it for $99 at the Optus website as well.

      • forgot to check that - now showing the correct price - Thanks!

    • BUY ONLINE trough Optus!!
Save you time as most stores are out of stocks including Optus stores.(see comments by others below:"waste of time")

  • Just called Big W at Chermside they had only 2 in stock and there both accounted for.

  • I'm waiting outside my local big w for them to open, online said they had low stock, they better have at least one here!

  • Don't bother trying big w pagewood, they still don't have them in, said they are getting 7 in, 3 names were taken down last night and there was 3 of us there trying to get them this morning =(

  • Checked BigW Brisbane City at 8:30AM today - none in stock! (Its a shame they put this in catalogue and haven't received any stock at the first day of sale)

They cannot confirm the restock date when - sometime next week!

  • I made the same mistake with the microsim. You can take it out if you unscrew all the phillips scrws, then get a flat head and slightly pry the back cover off where the SD card slot it. It'll just fall out. You barely have to pry it off, just a few millimeters.

Got mine from Australia Post Liverpool. I called up via phone and the lovely lady organized to have them keep one aside for me, apparently selling like hot cakes. Initial impressions were awesome, great for interwebs browsing.

  • No stock at Forest Hill (VIC). I'd say Optus is your bet bet to get these now rather than waiting for any more stock (which is unlikely to come as Optus will keep it for their customers. There is only a handful for each BigW store which will be snapped up within the hour).

  • +1

Update — None in Victoria at Forest Hill, Box Hill, Eastland Ringwood, Endeavour Hills, Mulgrave, Doncaster. All got about 3 or so in and sold out straight away. People were rushing for the wii console with mario kart as well. Keycode is 8204693 if people are ringing around looking for stock
