Not the all time low of $69 six years back, but was popular six months back.

Anything THX certified will play star wars the way it was meant to be heard
LOLOL
Is that the really old movie with the walking thingys?
Shame there's no digital inputs (optical/bluetooth/USB etc)
Mine are so old (circa 2010) I've had to hardwire the power on, the on/off switch got more and more flakey and died.
Input is PC USB to a low cost DAC with RCAs into speaker. Sounds a lot cleaner than 3.5mm in…
I reckon switches are a common point of failure for all Logitech gear. Mine did the same, thankfully JB replaced them.
I hope my Yamaha CTS20-USB set never dies. I've had these things powered on 24/7 for the last 20 years at least.
Built in USB DAC, yep much better without the noise from the MB though they have optical input too (even optical output)
Not sure what I'd replace them with if they did die, haven't really come across anything like them at a reasonable price.
I like your idea of using an external USB DAC though, that would open up a lot more options. What kind of DAC do you have? Looking at getting one for myself to pair it with these speakers(have had them for years) and some IEMs/Headphones.
I've been through some speakers and systems and have never used optical in my life. I have a couple cables kept away in the cable box in case I ever do though.
I bought this one 4 years ago. Using in my study for computer table. Best value for money. Great product.
I use this for my TV instead of a sound bar. Not amazin, but works great.
I chucked a very old set of these I've had since I was a teenager in my parent's living room for their TV.
Way better sound than a similar priced soundbar. They love it, and bless them, they have the bass turned up higher than I would have it myself.
Yup, good value - I have Z2300 on the PC and Z623 on the TV.
I loved my z2300s, infected mushroom blew up my satellites eventually
@BadGiraffe: I played about 20 minutes of it, didnt like the mechanics (yes i know, much loved by all).. never watched the series - not sure if this is a direct reference?
Edit - cordyceps infection. Gotchya.
More the israeli psy goa duo beats on max volume literally melting the speakers
I've had a pair of these since roughly 2012, great set of speakers
2012
Simpler times😮💨
Take me back!
To the good times.
Using this with our tv. Works very well.
I've had mine for 15 years and still going with regular use. Been waiting for them to die so I can upgrade. I spent like $130 on them in 2009~2010
These go on marketplace all the time for $40-50
Links please
And they look like they've been dug up from an old WW2 bunker
Years back i bought a set off Gumtree for $50 and sold them a few months later. They absolutely weren't for me, so glad i didn't pay much for them (and didn't make a loss).
What made you say no to them?
Probably subjective, but being a large sub and a pair of tweeters it was all low and top end with no mid, which is fine if that's what you like or using it for something like gaming.
Yep, my Z523 was free on Marketplace (picked up ~3 years ago) and works great.
Can't change the volume because of the potentiometer. Otherwise going strong for 5+ years.
These things BOOM! Probably better off getting some Edifiers if you want superior sound quality.
But nothing beats the bass on these other than a 1998 honda civic with P platesI have a similar model (not exactly this one), and the quality is excellent — at least by my standards. Really good value for money. I've used it for years without any issues or breakage. Definitely a solid choice if you’re after reliable 2.1 speakers.
Picked 2 of these up used for 50 bux each and they are going strong. One with projector and another with desktop. Awesome speakers. They just keep going despite the abuse without losing clarity. I even got the edifiers S2000 pro mkIII and tested them side by side on the desktop and the projector room and could not tell the difference. Sent the eddies back as the clarity was the same and bass was better on these.
You have got to be kidding me. I have used a z623 for about 5 years for my desktop. Yes they make some loud noises from the sub, but there is just no comparison to real speakers. Using the z623 for a projector room is the most depressing thing I've read this week.
I got 2 pairs of Z623, I purchased the S2000 pro mkIII. Used it both places. They sounded similar in the projector room. On the desktop, the S2Ks werent good enough, there was a small audible hiss coming from the spearkers that wouldnt go away even on the lowest volume. They werent meant to be used from that close anyway, but people still use large monitors on desktops. They also took a lot of space and sounded boxy too. Maybe smaller eddies will sound better? IDK. S2Ks didnt sound good enough for me. I even opened a thread about it in these forums, search for it. Almost everyone who owned them said eddies were overrated.
When testing on the projector room, I used realtek mobo audio for logis and optical out for the eddies so I could switch between the speakers when playing the audio in real time. So eddies used thier inbuilt DAC. The projector room is not rich people's setup with 5.1 and stuff. Just a good quality EPSON home cinema 1080P 2600lm ones paired with computer and logis. It wasnt my own house. Worked with whatever I had.
I wanted to keep the speakers for how premium they looked and felt, but everytime I heard them I just felt logis were better. I even closed my eyes and asked others to switch it for me and everytime I heard ever so slightly better sound, they were from the logis. Speakers had decent break in time. I guess by the time I was testing on the desktop, I had the sound blaster AE7 sound card. So source wasnt an issue either.
Thats my opinion. I am not here to make anyone believe me. Pics for proof that I am not making it up.
Wow, each to their own I guess. I'll have a look for at that thread. Thanks for the response.
I've had mine for about 12 years and its still going strong.
The subwoofer makes an amazing footrest
These are completely goated. I've had these for over 10 years and they're immaculate. Huge recommend!
Supreme value for money. My second set still going strong after many years. PSA - if you ever get the "volume knob crackle noise" happening, i.e. when changing volume it makes a loud crackling static type noise, it's a VERY easy fix. Turn it off, and give the volume knob a bunch of quick and vigorous FULL turns back and forth. Can't recall the cause of this off the top of my head, but there was one, and if ever it starts happening this solves it instantly!
I watch mainly YouTube and listen to music. Is the clarity good on these?
Honestly unless you've got self-appointed "expert ears", these perform really well and of course there's always the individual tuning you can do for your preferred sound profile. I use them in my home office setup for pretty much the same thing, YT, music (during the day WFH), and gaming. Don't underestimate the value of the sub too in providing a far richer, fuller sound.
Don't get these for music. Look at Monitors.
Look at Monitors
For better resolution?
Can't recall the cause of this
It's because rotary potentiometers (volume controls) have a horseshoe-shaped carbon track, and turning the knob moves a sliding electrical contact from one end of the "horseshoe" to the other. There is grease on the shaft of the volume control, and it very very slowly leaks from the shaft and eventually crosses the horseshoe-shaped carbon track. The grease doesn't conduct well, so when the electrical contact traverses the grease, the poor conductivity between the contact and the horseshoe causes the crackle.
Rotating the volume knob rapidly back and forth will clear a path through the grease, but as the grease is continuously creeping along, it'll cross the carbon track again in weeks or months. You'll have to repeat the treatment.
This problem can be entirely avoided by mounting the potentiometer so the opening of the horseshoe faces downwards, so the grease then won't cross the carbon track, it'll just go through the opening. Hopefully Logitech redesigned the innards of their volume control so it's mounted the proper way.
Ah - many thanks for the detailed explanation @Russ! Cheers!
Logged into this post to thank you for the fix. Most stuff on youtube tells you to pull it apart.
Very happy !! Cheers mate
My pleasure sir! Having been on that hunt myself, to find such a ludicrously easy fix was unreal, and since then I feel it is my duty to pass it on!
Wow a true legend, the reign is like 30 years, they had some great 2.1 but not this one. Still has great reliability but can't recommend for the sound quality, very muffled, TV and gaming might be ok but not for music. For the same money the edifiers do a bit better. Or get some small powered monitors.
Which edifiers would you recommend mate?
I would get the MR4 or the 1280 and then add a proper sub after for full scale.

I'm still using the Logitech X-540 5.1 that I got for $108 back in 2007. Like headphones, speakers seem kind of capped in technology. Got some Edifier R1280T for my brother a while back because of the positive reviews but was unimpressed. I assume you have to pay a lot more for a marginal improvement.
New fangled Z623s, my Z4s are still going.
I think this is way outdated today not sure why they are still making it. They can at least do an upgraded version. Sound quality is very good, but the volume button when turning volume up and down went scratchy on mine. No BT too. I upgraded mine to Edifier S360DB.
I feel like i've found my own mandala effect. I swear I bought these before I bought the x540s, i remember upgrading and finally having "real surround sound" lol - that was like.. 2005? maybe 2006? but apparently these didn't get released until 2010.. we have 2 sets of these sitting in the garage on a storage shelf, along with some gen1 soundsticks, so they definitely last (though I think both have the same issue with the left speaker input on the subs floating in it's cavity).
I think it’s formidable these have been on sale for 13 years. Can’t think of a product that has been on sale this long completely unchanged for so long.
I still have mine from 2012 era, and they still impress me.
I am still using Logitech Z-3 from early 2000s. But, I have been looking into upgrading to Edifier.
I got these a few years ago to upgade from X-530 and X-540 speakers and wasn't impressed. They're still in the box. Unpopular opinion but head to head they just didn't sound as good NOR as loud.
There's some 2.1s which are going to give you some love, like 10-15 years worth. I had a set Klipsch GMX A-2.1 from 2005 to very recently. I imagine these Logi's would do the same for some one else, they've been around so long. Recently went the Audioengine 2+ and Sub and these are going to see me through some years.
Had these for years.. bought them yesterday. They hit big. For yhis money nothing will touch this sub..
Its got nice v shape EQ. Some people dont like that, i love it especially for gaming and energetic music.Anywayx the ones i got yesterday had a pulsating sub. If you turned them on, soon as you connected the speaker with volume controls sounded like a really fast heart beat.. lile 5% volume. So annoying. Gaming loud fully drowned it but soon as it became night time yuk. Took them back. Today bough sole M60 edifiers. Wow. Sit on the desk nice. No where the bass level of z623.. but everythijg is nuch nicer.
I was listening to 70-90s music and it sounded really timbre… just nice man.
You cant add a sub, and the woofer/driver is 3inch instead of the other 2 edifiers I was looking at which had both had 4 inch woofers.
But they come with a stand, usb C connection, and bluetooth hi res. And using amazon music.. ultra HD audio is wild nice.Great sound quality, very reliable. Will hold up for many years. Hopefully the sub lasts much longer mine started to give out on roughly the 4 year.
Think I paid $80 bout a decade ago
Not that great.
Best to buy used if its an option.
Otherwise grab some other speakers.
Worst comes to worst, then OK if you must buy these is a OK price
Bought these nearly a decade ago, insanely good sound for the price and clearly built to last.
Z5500D or nothing
Used this for years and sold it to Cash Converters a few months ago for $60 :)
Not gonna oversell it — the Z623 isn't "mind-blowing" but it definitely holds its own in the 2.1 speaker category. THX-certified, punchy bass, and great for small rooms or desktop setups.
Would I buy it again for $150+? Honestly, probably not — unless I was specifically after a 2.1 system and didn’t want to mess with soundbars or bookshelf speakers.
Still, for under $170 delivered (or less with OnePass), it’s a solid deal if you know what you’re after.
Is THX even a thing anymore
