    • Didn't you have to pay extra for the 16 25gb?

      • Price matched with Retravision. My receipt total is 1400 and my gift card total is 1400

        • Retravision says $1495 for the 256gb?

          • @Mr Bargain Hunter: he would have done that on Wednesday when JB was offering $1400 GC as the phone was $1397. Now they have reduced the phone price to $1197 and according reduced their GC offering to $1200.

            • @IMadeYouReadThis: He can still ask for a price match within 14 days. My friend asked for a price match after 12 days (because JB dropped the price to match Costco). On the actual receipt, it only shows a $1400 gift card was used to pay for an iPhone, it has no detail of the JB Mobile offer.

      • It's best to find a better deal and ask JB to price match. The current JB prices are basically their RRPs. Aim to get ~$200 of the RRP if possible. My mate got iPhone 16 128GB price matched for $200 less so he ended up getting an $200 JB gift card from JB.

        • Where was your friend able to find it for $200 less?

          • @RiskyAU: Last time, after JB Hi-Fi stopped the $1400 off deal, lots of retailers decided to sell iPhone 16 series phones at a discount. JB Hi Fi decided matched those prices during that time. Therefore, JB Hi-Fi dropped iPhone 16 price by $200 within 14 days of my friend's purchase. My friend went back to JB Hi-Fi and asked to have the price difference refunded.

            • @netsurfer: would this still apply if you have already cancelled? (I doubt it but asking if anyone has tried)

              • @Irishness: Still applies. The receipt doesn't mention anything about the Mobile plan. They are essentially 2 separate transactions. One for the phone purchase, one for the mobile plan.

                • @netsurfer: I love it when the retailer is outsmarted so to speak, wonder if they would accept the $200 voucher towards the iphone voucher repayment fee (doubt it but hmm)

    • Think of it this way, if you has sold even more of your stuff you would have gotten the the iPhone pretty much for free or could have even ended up with extra cash in the pocket!

Deal as at today and as per my experience this evening…

The iPhone 16 128GB is pay $0 on the $99/m Premium Plan. The price of the phone is $1247.00 and JB basically creates a GC to that exact value to offset it for the $0 payment.

Whilst in store I needed to enter my direct debit for the $99/m first monthly payment, then I was on my way with the phone. For the evening, all I paid out of pocket was $99.

Got home and straight away called the JB Hi-Fi Mobile number 13 50 75 and was connected to an agent.

Told them I wanted to cancel the plan as I didn't think it through properly.

The break out fee was $766.59.

I requested for the $99 I paid this evening to be waived as I haven't started using the service, to which they obliged without any hesitation.

    $766.59 for an iPhone 16 128GB + $5 Aldi mobile SIM, can't complain ✌️

Thanks for the lead OP, albeit the current offer is slightly different to what was on offer at the time of posting the deal!

    • I tried reversing the $99 on chat and they flat out refused.

      • Try the phone, I saw another post saying they had good experience via a phone call hence I went that path. YMMV.

  • 865 outright. Worked a charm!

  • +1

Achieved it, $800 for the iPhone 16 256gb, had the $99 refunded and price matched into oblivion. Thanks, giving upvote. Now to sell my iPhone 11 Pro 64gb…

    • +2

Where did you price match with?

  • +1

Can I put someone else's name on the receipt if they're headed overseas?

  • Does this still work? Now the iPhone 16 is $1247, how come? Did they drop the price when they changed the voucher to $1250? I swear before when I was looking, the iPhone 16 was around $1400.

Also, is the termination fee still $766? Because when I check the Telstra terms, I can’t find anywhere that says what the termination fee is.

    • Still works, the price of iPhone 16 and voucher reduced at the same time so effectively still paying $0 upfront. Cancellation fee is $766 plus $99 for first months charge. Some ppl managed to get $99 back but didn’t work for me.

  • Anyone know if you can call up or chat to cancel on the weekend?

    • +1

I cancelled via jb mobile live chat last Sunday afternoon

  • +1

Went in to JBHIFI yesterday. Have cancelled via live chat on JB HI FI mobile this morning and can confirm the termination fee is still $766.59

  • Hi, just checking — how can we be sure that the cancellation fee is $800?
From the T&Cs, it seems that if you received a JB Hi-Fi voucher when signing up for a 24-month plan and cancel early, you’re required to repay a pro-rata portion of the voucher value.

Since I’m currently in Month 1, that would mean I have 23 months remaining.
    So the repayment should be:
    23/24 × $1,250 = $1,197.92, right?

    Could you please confirm?

    • +2

The Critical Summary confirms the MAXIMUM Voucher Repayment Fee (or let’s just call it the EXIT FEE) payable. The amount payable (ie. exit fee) has nothing to do with the actual voucher JB applied to your purchase, that voucher does not need to be repaid. It’s easy to test it, hop onto the chat and say you want to cancel and for them to give you a figure for the FEE payable, it’s a simple enquiry, and if it’s approx $800 or a lesser pro rated amount, you’ve confirmed what I and others have told you. Critical Summary link below

      https://www.telstra.com.au/help/critical-information-summari…

      • +1

        100% correct.

        Basic…

You pay prorata 23 of 24 months of the maximum Voucher Repayment Fee which is $800. Even on the day the service was commissioned and requested to be cancelled, they already count 1 month.

        $800 / 24 months = $33.33 per month

        $33.33 x 23 months = $766.59 which is the Voucher Repayment Fee.

This is exactly the amount that showed on the invoice, and further states it's 23 months.

      • +4

Just got my wifes phone today - when you're signing up they do text & email you the critical information summary which clearly states $800.

Within the system / on the plan the voucher is $800 - when JB generate the actual voucher it seems they might be fronting the 450.

Going to try get the 99 wavied and cancel now! will try chat first!

Edit: Online chat wouldn't refund the $99, I pushed, took a good 30min of waiting and then they came back with a yes.

Total out of pocket for Iphone 16 256GB was $929

        • What did you say to get them to refund you? I tried on the phone today and they said no, online they also said no

  • Has anyone tried to sign up to another Telstra plan after doing this? I wonder if you get declined ?

    • doubt it, more likely depend on your credit check

  • Can confirm today I got lucky with using Amaysim to price match. The first guy I spoke to allowed it, but when it got to sales rep he made sure it was clear that it wasn't to happen again, (and then they honoured what they originally said of course).
Apparently with the Amaysim deal you need to be an existing Amaysim customer? Oh well… I didn't look into it.
My terms (that they read me) also mentioned $800 exit fee in lieu of $767.

When I rang up to cancel it was straight forward, but the exit fee was $799.92 (?!) and there was no invoice raised for the first $99 so they said take a ref number and if that get's invoiced to call back and they will refund it.
The above is likely the case as I am already an existing JB Mobile customer with a different number…?

So I ended up with an iPhone 16 Pro 128GB for $299+799.92+$5 = $1103.92 in lieu of the cheapest at Amaysim for $1549 or JB/Officeworks for $1637.

Not bad. I was tempted to hold out for the 17 but figured they're going to jump up in price a little bit. Only time will tell!

edit: Perhaps it would seem as I wasn't charged $99 right away to match prior billing dates (existing customer - different number), I didn't get the pro-rata discount against the $800 fee, hence it was $799.92 in lieu of ~$767. Next time I'll have to keep that in mind, as I should have got another ~$30 discount…

    • $299+799.92+$5 = $1103.92, in your calculation whats this 299 for

      • 1549-1250 gift card credit from the JB deal. I got a Pro 128GB model.

  • +1

I purchased one yesterday 16 pro 256gb price match cotsco $1809.99 - 1250 voucher - $559 + 99 for the first month of the plan. Went home, cancelled the plan and paid $766 for early cancellation fees and I also got the $99 refund. Total $1325, not bad considering I will be going overseas next week and can also claim the $160 GST bringing the total down to $1165

      • You cancel the phone number they give you ($99 plan - which you pay at commencement, unless you are already a JB Hifi Customer) and just use your other existing number/plan

  • anyone know if the $766 voucher repayment can be paid through BPay at a post office, telstra said yes I only need the invoice number (there's no bpay details on the invoice) but I don't trust this to be true the online chat are forever giving out wrong info

    • Please double check before paying otherwise it will be a bugger to reverse etc. Paying any bill via Bpay is usually the Biller Code and the Reference Number (which usually is the Account Number or includes you account number). The biller code for Telstra mobile is 425132. Not sure if the “invoice number” is used as the reference number. So definitely check before paying.

      https://www.telstra.com.au/support/plan-update/different-tel…

      • +1

thanks this is something called billerpay (aus post) anyways typical Telstra gave me wrong info as I went to aus post & they said not with out all the details, called telstra they said must be paid by phone / online by card only hopefully this helps anyone else thinking of trying to pay another way

        • Sorry about that, when you said Bpay I just assumed that’s what they do at the post office. Anyhoo to those who want to BPay just get the details right because it’s a headache to reverse, at least in my case it was! Glad you got it sorted.

  • Get this or wait for iPhone 17?
Speaking of, do we expect the 17 to get this same deal??
Any advice is appreciated (coming from an 11)

    • expect iphone 17 to have a price rise so while I'm sure there will be a deal from JB I question whether as cheap as this. I believe the 16 is being discounted with the release of the 17 in a few months

    • I am in the same boat!

  • My end result for the iPhone 16 Pro 256gb is:

    $1884 (Retrovision Price Match)
    -1400 (discount voucher)
    +99 (first month)
    +5 (Aldi sim)
    +766 (cancellation)
-99 (refunded after a few calls)
-37 (price match their current website price, can apparently refund the difference within 2 weeks)
    = $1218

After refunding the difference in price, the new receipt didn't have the GST listed so I asked them about it since I need it for TRS and they let me keep the old receipt to use, which has tax listed as $171.27.

So after TRS, it should be ~$1047

    • Thanks for sharing all the calculations. Could you share the link for the Price Match website (retrovision)? Also, how did you manage to get the 1400$ discount? Isn't it $1250 now? And isn't the cancallation 800$? or is it 766$?

I plan to do this over the weekend, so it would be of great help! Thanks much.

      • +1

The link is here from my original comment (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16712748/redir). That said, the JB Hi Fi base price is now cheaper, so no need to match RetraVision anymore. The original deal was $1400 off. Sadly it's now $1250. They did lower the phone base price though.

The cancellation for me was $766 but I see comments saying they've now increased it to $950. The deal might be expired now.

    • I was able to get my refund first go (on chat) but my wife tried a couple of times no dice, hasn't called, canclled the other day - did you do it all in one day or try a few times on different days?

      • Originally cancelled via Telstra chat. Didn't ask about the $99 refund. Then a few days later tried JB Hi Fi Mobile chat for the refund. No nice. Even the manager said it's impossible. A few days later tried calling Telstra directly. I just asked and they put me on hold for a few minutes to check the details and did it. No convincing needed. Might be luck of the draw. Good luck if you keep trying!

  • +1

I've just pulled the trigger on this. I'm yet to cancel the plan (Gonna do it in 1hour). However, I saw the Voucher Repayment Fee is now changed to "Up to $1000" and when logged in to JB Mobile portal, I also saw the $1000 applied.
    Does this mean that it's now 23/24 x $1000? :(

    • +1

what does it say on the critial information summary they sent you? mine said $800.

      EDIT:

Yeah, they've defniently changed it - but who know's what that means for you, hopefully still 800. I also think it's not great that because the original CIS sent to me was a link, it has also updated - could end up in a pickle if you waited pre cancel and the t&c's changed.

"$800 base voucher (always offered as part of plan) and up to $200 bonus voucher (only offered during select promotional windows)"

    • That's a little sketchy. Not surprising though… Maybe confirm first. When I signed up (Tuesday) they verbally told me it was $800, reading from the Telstra terms as they went through the process.

      • Yeah when we signed up it was clearly $800 on the screen too. We’ve both already cancelled but I think the dynamic link is super suss

        • +1

          updated,
the $800 you alway have to pay, but they added "extra bonus voucher" $200, so now you'll be paying $1000 if you had sign up today,
those that signed yesterday, the voucher of $800 will apply only, so they only pay $800.

what I don't understand clear is, why do they call it "voucher", where does that voucher apply? we still paying $99/month, or are we only paying ($800/24)*23 = $33/month?

    • Confirming this is the case from now. Cancellation fee is $950.80. Also, tried the $99, but unlucky - tried from Call and Live Chat. Both won't budge at all. Decided to just keep using for the first month (Don't want to lose the $99 I paid) and cancelled later

      • why is it $950?? Everyone said $750 or $800?

        • they confirmed they were gonna change it as lots of people abused this method, we just got late to the party mate

  • +3

Just went to jb to get it. After everything at the end the sales person tells me that today they changed the cancellation fee up to $1000. Just called them to cancel the plan and yes they told me the cancellation fee is $950.80. Feel like I got scammed hahah but it is what it is. Still saving like $100. So yeah if your planning on getting this deal they’ve changed the cancellation fee so he careful.

    • what phone did you get? the base 16?

      • yeah the base 16

    • I feel you. Feel scammed as well. Hahaha. Although still got some saving actually. I can't get the $99 back as well. So, im 300GB richer until my next billing

    • Yup (profanity) man just one day late ain’t it

    • it is now an expired deal :(

and in the future, never gonna happen again!

      • true, took them a while to catch on I reckon

    • Thanks, saved me a trip as was thinking of getting it for the gf. Not as good a deal in this case.

  • +2

The CIS definitely has changed since I got it on 18/07/2025, and further commented on 21/07/2025.

My CIS was $800, using the same link which was provided by JB Hi-Fi mobile via SMS during purchase. Now this link has updated to reflect an extra $200 for the Voucher Repayment Fee.

    Dodgy as!

I've reported this deal as expired, so others aren't caught out!

    • Damn, just bought a bunch of gift cards to purchase the phone with!

Thanks for flagging this though - I absolutely would have gotten bit.

  • Bugger! JB/Telstra have cottoned on about the Voucher Repayment Fee, they’ve upped it in the last week.

The wording of the Fee Amount seems strange

“$800 base voucher (always offered as part of plan) and up to $200 bonus voucher (only offered during select promotional windows)”

Regarding the $200, it says “only offered during select PROMOTIONAL WINDOWS”, does that mean the $200 won’t be payable AFTER the promotional period ends and therefore it’s only the $800 (or less pro rated amount)?

In the case of the IPhone 16 128gb the promotion ends 30/7/25.

    Any thoughts on my theory?

  • +1

Looking to use this deal by this weekend.
Could someone please confirm the voucher repayment amount? Is it $766, $800, or $1000?

    I'm a bit confused.
    Thank you!

    • The amount has now changed from 800$ to 'Up to $1000' on ther Critical information summaries page, and I've called my local JB HiFi and confirmed too that it's $1000 now. I was planning to get this over the weekend too, but now it probably does not seem worth it for me as it just comes to around $100 savings overall if my math is correct.

      • yeah definitely not worth for a $1k - as the iPhone 17 launch comes nearer, you are likely to see price around $1k outright at Telstra or Costco which means you won't have to jump hoops to get this price.

        • +1

Usually I buy the iPhone 3 years after release to get a decent deal. Right now the 15 pro 512gb and the 16 pro 512gb are almost identical in price. This deal still knocks off $200. It's just now a lot of effort for a smaller price drop, but still works out I guess if you really want the latest iPhone.

        • I put my order around 12 pm yesterday (Thursday). Does anyone know when did they change the web page that said maximum voucher payment $800?

      • Did you by any chance ask them what the “promotional window” with respect to the extra $200? I just wonder if it isn’t added on if one cancels after the promotion.

        • my reading to this is that if you get the voucher during the promo window like right now, the $200 fee will apply. After the promo window, they will still have some sort of vouchers but prob not as much as $1200. That's what I understand but others can chip in!

    • +1

its def 1000 mate, just done it yesterday, bit annoyed lol but it is what it is

  • Can someone please confirm how much is the cancellation fee? They are telling me it's $950. Any chance someone can share some information so I can talk to them and give them an example of early termination for $750 or $800? Thanks.

    • it has changed in the last 24 hours, please see the last few messages in the thread.

Edit: Your best bet would be wait until after 31 July when the promotional window ends and hope that the additional $200 charge is not imposed on you.

      • I just organised one of these for the mrs, where is the information about this $200 fee during the promotional period? I will look into it

        • where is the information about this $200 fee during the promotional period

          here

  • +2

Ok I think I’ve worked it out regarding the additional $200

From reading the updated T&C’s, I suspect that the PROMOTIONAL VOUCHER PERIOD refers to the 24 month contract period, that is what the promotion centres around.

In the T&C’s under heading “Leaving”

“From July 24, 2025, if you also received a JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher when you purchased your
Mobile Service and you cancel that Mobile Service within any applicable VOUCHER TERM, you
must pay us the outstanding amounts for the JB Hi-Fi Bonus Voucher you received for the
cancelled Mobile Service (the Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee)”

It mentions “voucher term” and when we look at the T&C’s under the heading Voucher Contract Term it confirms the Voucher Term is 24 months.

    VOUCHER CONTRACT TERM

“If you received a JB Hi-Fi Voucher when you purchased a service on a JB Hi-Fi Mobile Upfront
Plan, the JB Hi-Fi Voucher may have a fixed term of 24 months (Voucher Term).”

    Conclusion

I believe the additional $200 (or pro rated) Bonus Voucher Repayment Fee, would be payable through the entire contract period ie. the 24 month period.

So I think it would not matter if we buy today and cancel after 30.7.25 (the current deal) or if we cancel two months later, the bonus amount would still have to be paid as the “promotional window” is the voucher term which is the 24 months.

So if we buy today and cancel today the amount out of pocket would be

    $5 Aldi sim

    At the JB counter
    Amount outstanding for particular IPhone
    +
    $99 first month plan

    At home upon canceling approx
    $766.67 (800x(23/24)
    +
    $191.66 ($200x(23/24)

    =$958.33 approximately

And with each month you don’t cancel you keep paying the $99 plan amount.

Sadly I don’t think it’s worth it and I’m kicking myself for not just doing it sooner.

  • +2

I posted this comment to warn others.

Technically the deal hasn't expired, if you want to continue with the $99 per month service. BUT if you are looking to undertake the loophole, be super careful.

Be good if the OP updated to reflect this, so others that aren't so good at reading a sea of comments, aren't caught off guard!

  • +4

    CONFIRMED WITH JBHIFI STAFF

The current Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee IS up to $1000 pro rated for the entire duration of the 24 month contract.

The staff member said Telstra had always had the $800 for almost 5 years but found that customers were cancelling early and only had to pay up to $800 (pro rated)

The additional $200 was to cover some loss.

    BUGGER!

  • +1

Do not attempt this glitch 😂 I’m slow and didn’t know they upped the fee to $958

I ended up spending all that time creating an account to end up paying $2058 for a 16 pro max , because they didn’t waive the fee , and n the fee isn’t $677 anymore.

I thought i might as well as it would still end up costing $1777 for a new phone even if they don’t waive the fee. Ended up paying $58 more than JB retail. I must’ve looked like the biggest numpty😆😆

    • I don't understand. You can't cancel the plan now?

  • This is probably one of my biggest regrets in life. Deeply embarrassed and ashamed in myself for this.

    • Don't stress - these sort of workarounds are often fleeting, which is why you have to work fast - ie. the OzBargain way. It's a few hundred bucks. You'll get it back soon enough. Enjoy the phone in the meantime.

      • And the 300GB as well if you are not successful with the $99

  • +1

I literally bought the phone (iphone 16pro 256GB) right now without knowing this disaster. :) I don't mind paying $958.22 for the cancellation fee because it was one of the life lessons that i need to pay for my stupidity but paying $99 monthly fee is painful.

    • Try to get them to refund $99, say you felt under pressure to sign up, say you take full responsibility but because you have a large family every cent is important, keep trying to get it refunded.

      • +3

I tried yesterday on $99, they won't budge at all. They even mentioned if I really want, I'll need to bring back the phone to JB and sort it out with them.
But I guess it's my luck.
Reminiscing my memory when queuing for Uniqlo free jacket for 4hours, only to find out that I'm the 201th person…..

        • +1

Damn, sorry about that. Lol, you might be 201 but you have your health and the jackets were probably shit. At the end of the day you still got a cheaper dea than the cheapest retail price out there. May the iPhone serve you well!

          • @rjozsa: I just saw you comments. like @dorapikachu mentioned before, Telstra confirmed that they won't budge at all. I am just going to enjoy the phone for now and get some hopes for next year tax return because i will use it for work only.
