Personally I use Stremio etc, but the other half likes to watch Netflix. Otherwise I'd cancel. She wouldn't be able to figure out the alternatives.

    • +2

      Can’t you teach her

      • +3

        No.

        • -1

          Why

          • +9

@illusion99: Don't you have one? You should know how that usually plays out

            • @Brakus: I mean to use stremio once you set it up is 1. Search for show/movie you want. 2. Click on the show. 3. Click on the first stream option to start playing.

Netflix is the exact same process except for step 3 which is literally a button press.

3D printing tech is improving by the day; I am very patient.

  • +4

The extra user outside the home charge also went up.

  • +1

I only keep the ad version of Netflix for the kids for ease of use. I have Stremio but I haven’t figured out a way to hide all the bad stuff from the kids so they don’t use it.

    • -5

Kids are gonna get to the bad stuff one day regardless of what you do

      • +1

true but the age makes a big difference.

    • I’m interested the same (lock out bad stuff in the kids profile), if you managed to find it, please let me know

  • It honestly does not matter is what I've learned. The people who are willing to pay for it continue to pay for it, those who don't, figure out it and end up pirating. Same thing with people who watch ads on YouTube.

Pirating has never gone away and probably never will.

    • -1

True. And the pirates are deluding themselves that they are sticking it to the man and the companies are suffering losing their business. When the pirates make up such an insignificant portion of potential revenue it’s not even a rounding error on the books

      • -1

Dude 100%. I also just think it's so stupid and annoying when some dude in a comment section will go "Guess I'll be sailing the seas!! 🤭". As if people who want to see something for free need someone to remind them pirating is an option

  • I'm going to give up Disney+ soon. For simplicity I let the person I'm sharing with claim the household, and I forward the code to them automatically. But getting it to login is a pain, it keeps asking me for a code, meaning the sharer also gets the code and they don't know if it's me or one of their kids at a friend's house or what. At a certain point it will refuse to let you even log in with a code, but if you delete and reinstall the app it lets you log in again. It's such a pain that just getting a paid IP TV service is looking more attractive. Probably easier to share too.

    • The content on Disney is quite good and we split it three ways, but they keep hiking their prices for oremium, up $50 this year.

  • Netflix cancelled Fubar. Now where can I get my Arnie fix?

Cate Blanchett in Squid game isn't cheap

  • The $20/month I pay some random dude in the UK for virtually every piece of media via a plex library continues to be the best investment I have made media wise. https://imgur.com/a/mIoicMV

    • How big is this person’s library and bandwidth?

      • I have never buffered with any of the viewings and I exclusively use DoVi/HDR where possible. This includes high bitrate files (40+) to answer your question about bandwidth. The library…..is essentially as big as you could imagine it to be. I have not found something I have searched for and there is a request option as well. Movies are updated quite regularly.

    • +1

      $20 a month… You're getting ripped off mate

      • For a library that covers what is probably contained in all of the streaming services available to us (within reason) could be very worthwhile for $20. Issue I see is that I doubt that this setup is very formal and the server could disappear at any point. But like a streaming service, you're paying month-by-month and if you lose access you haven't lost the service you've paid for, unlike a large upfront cost.

    • $20 a month is actually crazy.. you're getting ripped - much better (and cheaper) alternatives out there

      • I mean, yeah, but this requires 0 set up and gives me 5 consecutive streams. Unsure how you can comment on "better" when I don't really know how a service can be better.

        • It can be “better” when it offers the same features, if not more whilst also being cheaper

          • @TheFreaK: So it can be cheaper. Sure, I won't disagree there.
However, there is literally no feature that would distinguish anything "better". This holds true the opposite way too.
I open it up, and greeted by the latest media https://imgur.com/a/bjJaWbc
It supports basically everything in these categories https://imgur.com/a/6IKoMsU
and the uptime is as follows: https://imgur.com/a/brIIWN4

So yeah, unsure what "more features" looks like. I'm tryning to watch movies and tv as simple as possible due to time constraints and this offers no resistance and is cheaper than a single streaming service family sub.

            • @LINK91: More features is an interface that has access to content that isn’t downloaded yet but can download it via Torrent or Usenet if available

The amount of niche content that I attempt to stream and can download via Usenet is intense, 7GB files going from not downloaded to ready to stream in <30 seconds

You are at the bane of the Plex provider for what they content is available, I am apart of a community where every piece of content streamed or accessed is added to a cache and I can add to the cache if the content is not already available

All for the cost of $11 per month, cheaper and more flexible

              • +1

@TheFreaK: Sir, what you are suggesting is a completely different delivery of service as to what I currently have. I am well aware of that route and was ingrained in it myself. The entire purpose was to eliminate the need for downloads/management of a server. Even with automation tools and the ease of access nowadays (especially compared to 15 years ago), it still requires storage, etc. I develop software for work, the last thing I want to do is (profanity) around with config for leisure lol.

I don't have to download anything anymore, so I never have to worry about storage. Indeed, I am at the behest of the plex share provider and understand the risks, but until then, this is the most seamless solution.

What you're describing is a streamlined version of torrenting, what I'm using is netflix with no algorithmic systems and the entirety of IMDB more or less available. Two completely different products.

Also, we have a discord server which i guess classifies as a community?

                • @LINK91: You may develop software for work but you clearly misunderstand the premise of as well as infrastructure setup for a debrid service.

Look into it if you want a superior setup than what you’re running currently - else don’t, it doesn’t bother me.

                  • @TheFreaK: At no point did you indicate debrid or was I supposed to infer that from your cache and community references.
I'm in bed and way too tired to continue this but I will leave this here:

                    Good night.

    • I pay $75 a month but have a dedicated emby server. Split it with friends, they each pay $7, and by the end they cover my share.

      • Yeah, I have the option to choose either so I tested both. Plex UI is just better overall, especially for kids.

  • It's like a dollar a day for something that gives my family hours of enjoyment. People spend 5 x more on a cup of coffee every day.

I'm not entirely ready to raise my pitchfork yet.

    • +2

      Enjoy subpar overpriced products 😂😂

      • +1

Tell that to my kids, it's the most used app in my home.

Over 100 people say they will cancel the subscription but you know they won't.

  • Thanks just cancelled 1 day before renewal.

  • Maybe they have too many customers and predict that if trend continue they have to invest in more servers to keep up with demand. Might as well have less subscribers who pay a premium.

  • Back to torrenting for you guys. Kinda knew Netflix wouldn't be ideal long term. Half the time you don't know what to watch anyway. You spend time finding what you want to watch than actually watching something. With price hike not worth it

  • They added so much friction to use it, even when it was my account that i deleted mine a year ago.

  • +1

    Forgot Netflix even existed.

If you add up all the streaming services (Netflix, Disney, Paramount, prime, apple, kayo) you back to foxtel days.

    • Waiting for someone to combine it all onto one platform for one price, like Foxtel was . Haha

  • Content is so poor, we haven't used Netflix for years.

  • +1

Kayo is the worst. $40 per month. Yeap.

    • It sucks, wish I wasn't so addicted to F1 (and Supercars).

      • +1

        IPTV

      • Nine is going after F1 apparently. So you may get it for free or have to get Stan Sport in the future

  • Why do people pay for this rubbish then whinge about it?

    • Totally!

If there's a must see movie or two, then maybe pay for just ONE months access and binge crazy whole month, grow a beard and hairy butt hermit style.

  • I will start to cycle through the subscriptions …

  • Netflix is the one sub I've always maintained, mainly because my kids use it a lot, and we do use it 'enough'. But I think I'll downgrade to the ad supported plan, as I recently discovered ads don't get served on the Kids profile, and will just pirate other content. I already run a large Plex server and have never bothered adding Netflix shows to it as we had the sub, but that is easy to change.

Stremio + Real Debrid. Its been more than 7 months, I only paid like 24 AUD for RD. I can find literally all movies, all series, all animes, its so awesome!

        No, content from India 🇮🇳

      Woah, why the negative votes?
I am interested in content from India 🇮🇳. What did i do wrong?

  • I never subbed to Netflix in the first place.

Price increase = user base decrease, quality decrease = user base decrease and repeat.

    • +3

= increase in revenue = increase in share price = increase in real world wealth for shareholders = lambos

Look at the data. Their user base is actually increasing regardless of price increases

Ozbargain users who are tech savvy are not the norm in society

  • Did I hear on the news they struck a new deal with Harry and Megan? I’m out.

This time they are paying them not to make any content.

I am so done with subscriptions 🏴‍☠️

  • Some of the best sailors I've met have a very simple solution. They download the app 'web video caster ' yellow app icon. They then pay $4 for the premium version. This app is simply a browser, with a built-in adblock that will locate then allow you to cast any website hosted video to your tv.

Then be careful not to infringe any copyright laws
But libraries of videos exist. https://fmhy.pages.dev/videopiracyguide

  • I won't cancel, but one more might change my mind

  • I don't think this pricing matches with the ozbargainer's soul, what the af? This has become way worse than cable. At least music streaming is one and done

  • Shame that I purchased 3x$50 gift cards from coles for the extra FlyBuys points. I was paid until Feb. Now I'm only paid until Dec at these prices. I will cancel after Dec.

  • Best way to get back at Netflix is turn it off every few months.

The stuff is boring over time anyway.

I spend more time scrolling then watching.

Reading a book is more rewarding sometimes.

  • Can’t cancel what you don’t have.
As many others have already said, Stremio + Realdebrid everything in one spot.

    • so true.

    Capitalism.

  • Erdogan raises middle finger to Benjamin:
Turkeys RBA gone from 10% to 50%

In a nutshell: Too many vpn's going there!

  • I wish they would quit with this .99 rubbish. We're not Americans, we read it as the full rounded up price and do not think we're getting an amazing discount of 1 cent.

    • Psychological marketing

  • It makes the bundles with other providers look like better value now (eg. AGL energy includes Netflix ad-tier for free). Maybe that's part of the reasoning they bumped the ad-tier so much, make it look like better value for their partners.

  • +1

Not sure how it's corporate greed. It's not like it's a life saving drug.

Either way if there's a month worth of new shows or movies being released on Netflix, I pay for a month and instantly cancel. I watch what I want to for the month and then generally cancel for 4-6 months.

  • +1

I setup Stremio + RD + Easynews 3 months ago.
As of 6 weeks ago we cancelled Netflix/Binge/Stan/D+ kept Prime for obvious reasons.

We have come round full circle and hoist the jolly roger once again. The corpo greed and fragmentation is way to much.

  • I’m holding onto Netflix Turkey gift cards until they dry up

    • But can you redeem them?
I haven't been able to redeem the TL 1,000 card I have.
I always get error on the site, so used to use chat to redeem it. Now chat no longer functions, only call is available, and they only speak Turkish….

      • same for me, used to work with turkey gift cards, my account got blocked 2 weeks ago, can't use gift card anymore.

  • @OP - add third option: cancelled already

  • -8

can someone shut this post down? this is outdated stuff, like it doesn't work anymore, if any government person is reading this, this is outdated, yeh not working..

  • The new Netflix home screen layout makes it so difficult for me to use (i.e. view / scroll the content) that I cancelled immediately upon receiving the price hike email.

    • Yes, the previous UI was much better. Why did they change it lol

  • Back to the high seas for me … this latest price rise is seriously a gouge on good customers. I have been with them for 10 years, on the top tier since it became available. There is no reason or incentive to keep it … loyalty means nuffin!

  • New price start next month. Won't renew it.

    Gotta aaaarrrr soon
