Can't say no to more options for cloud storage.

With almost 20GB in Dropbox (from space race), 50GB in Box (for life), a couple of gigs in SugarSync, and now this… I have no excuse for losing files now.

    I purchased “unlimited” space for USD $29 - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/91995
    I don’t use it.
The sync software sucks, the actual website is also very average.
It struggles to display photos frequently; it won’t play videos it says are compatible.
The file structure for an iPhoto library gets destroyed.
Free space is free space, but like the 250GB on Box I have free across 5 accounts, it won’t get used.
I can fully understand why Dropbox can charge double for their service compared to most, they just get it right.

I always sign up for these things in the hope they will get better with time. No harm in having the option.
I must say Box has got a lot more user friendly since I originally signed, so hopefully this one will get a bit better too.

  • Like others, I've signed up for many Cloud accounts over time and haven't touched many of them but some have their place and I think I may have found a purpose for Pogoplug (wth kind of name is that anyway?!)

    This:

automatically back up the photos and videos taken with your mobile device

So it's a backup for Dropbox when everyone's massive space expires and dropbox becomes unusable :)

  • Is there an upload limit? Storage size does not mean anything if upload size is small… just like box.net.

  • +2

Backup your dropbox to your box.net to your pogo!

  • Very quick and painless to sign up. Can never how too much storage!

  • Nice one!

doesn't work for existing member though

    just 20gbs?!

  • Good to see the terms Cloud + 'Storage' together, instead of Cloud & Backup. This one ain't about to delete your files two months down the track, and this is good.

In this case "for life" will most likely mean "for the life of the company". If theyre in the business of giving away 20Gb without an additional revenue stream then that might not be for so long.

    • Oh look the thread I posted on complaining about some of it's silliness.

They have updated their sync client, but I got distracted by a shiny thing last night just as I was about to download it.

So I have now 20gb pogoplug. 50gb box. 25gb box and 63gb dropbox.

Now to just figure out how to automatically set them up to back up each othr up…….

    Thanks aswell.

  • Thanks OP. May try Pogoplug, and also Lacie's Wuala http://www.wuala.com/ for 5GB that i recentlycame accross, and you can get more storage with some Lacie products.

  • i already have 5gb with them i registered by seagate devie so thought if i take up this promo then i be able to expand it to 20gb but it doesn't work, my account still only have 5gb by only =(
any one else having this problem?

Can't go wrong with another 20gb free cloud storage, thanks! :D

  • I've tried to upload videos >400MB from my iPhone 4S to Pogoplug (over wifi) and often these larger jobs don't appear to complete properly. A thumbnail appears in the web view, but the iPhone client progress bar stops before it gets to the end. I have re-tried a number of times and the same thing keeps happening.
When I re-open Pogoplug, the upload commences again.
(What a gross waste of bandwidth. The upload protocol should support resuming.)
I suppose that it is possible that my filtered internet access is blocking some exchange that Pogoplug needs to complete the transfer. However many smaller videos and photos have completed successfully - so I doubt it.
I suspect that the phone going into standby and receiving notifications has caused problems with uploading too.

Can't go wrong with another 20gb free cloud storage

    If you can use it.

    • I had issues loading from desktop.
They were only 86MB and 146MB

  • I just got CNET spam to the address I created for Pogoplug (ie not used anywhere else). Looks like Pogoplug gave your emails to CNET and CNET subscribed us to their mailing lists.

Edit: It seems CNET buried a clause in the T&Cs that they can spam the hell out of you if they feel like it. :(
