Use 10online to bring it down to $269

  • Thanks monicaaar
    The deal updated.
    Have a nice day

  • it cheap..

  • Excuse my lack of tablet knowledge, but can someone help me out here please ?

I'm comparing this to the Asus Transformer Pad 101 and they seem comparable (screen size, resolution, RAM etc) except for a few points - Samsung is upgradeable to JB whereas the Asus is upgradeable only to ICS (officially). Asus has better front facing and back cameras.

It's possible to get a refurbished Asus TF101 for $189 delivered with a 12 month warranty. I've never used Android before, is there a big difference in the apps available for ICS vs JB ? Is there a reason not to get the TF101 besides the new vs refurbished ? Are there any 'soft', interaction based differences between the two ?

    Thanks !

Reasons for the Transformer Pad: Physical keyboard / dock is good. Cheap(er)
Reasons against: Tegra 2 chip is outdated and less supported these days (hence why it is only staying on ICS). TF101 is the first gen and is superseded by about 3 models since.

Reasons for Samsung Tab 2: JB Support (not too much of a difference really except mainly "Google Now" application which is kind of personal assistant type software). It is suppose to be smoother too but my experience with Samsung's implementation isnt too smooth (at least on the older machines).
Reasons against: For this price, I'd rather get another brand like Ainol to get a quad core CPU, more memory and later versions of JB. It is horses for courses but it will run much better than this (which in itself is nearly 2 year's old).

      • Thanks for the information bchliu !

I've just looked at a few Ainol tablets (is this the most reliable of the Chinese tablet manufacturers ?) and the Novo 10 Hero looks good in terms of specs.

There would be no issues with apps from the Google Play store right ? I'll mostly use it for browsing/e-mailing/videos etc and using the NBA/SBS app for streaming the NBA and The Tour De France etc. ABC iView to stream ABC documentaries. That's about it.

        • Ainol and Ramos are the most reliable of all the Chinese brands and they have a pretty decent record in general and are around the sub $200 range for their 10" tablets. The Ainol Hero 2 is good bang for buck (<$200). Another one to look out for is the Hyundai T10 which is more closer to the Tab 2's price range here but has the same specifications (Exynos Quad, 2GB RAM) as the newer and far superior Samsung Note 2 & 10.1.

From memory, all of these should have Google Play by default. If not, then it is only a matter of downloading the latest Google Play APK file and running it from a file browser.

        • Don't forget iPad is a reliable Chinese manufactured Tablet.

BTW: I see Target have Galaxy Tab 2, 7inch for $208.

        • Hyundai ones are pretty decent with some being Aluminium back and IPS screens.
If they look expensive, Ramos or Ainol are good.

        • Thanks for that. I've been looking at the Ainol Novo 10 Hero and it has quite decent reviews. And if that $138 shipped deal comes from MP4Nation, think I'll jump on it.

Looked at the Hyundai T10 gagans, but a bit too expensive and I can live with the specifications of the Novo 10 for my needs.

        • Yea, T10 is a bit pricy and you will think twice to get a generic tab, but the specs and quality is pretty solid and reviews were pretty good as well.
As staged earlier, Ainol ones are good as well.

  • You might even get away with price match at your local Officeworks making it $255.55!

  • Where did the 10online coupon come from?

  • can any confirm if dicksmith has paypass?? and/or OW??

    • Let me guess you're an ING member - sorry 5% discount only applies on purchases <$100 :-(

      • +2

        Multiple eftpos transactions ;)

      • +2

If you ask nicely, they will split the payments into mutiples of $99.

    • +6

I am sure OW has the paypass..you can use the ing debit card to get further 5% discount. make sure you keep the transacations less than $100…buy multiple gift cards..if you want to get it from Dick Smith then buy the Wish Gift cards from any woolies using the ing debit card and use those gift cards at dick smith if your local dick smith does not have a paypass facility..you can use the gift cards online as well..

      • Never thought of buying multiple gift cards using ING debit card so you get the 5% discount, great idea if it works! :-)

        • +2

It works..i have done this for getting my Galaxy note 10.1 through Dick Smith !!

      • +2

Using giftcards means you get the 5% ING discount AND the $10 off from the coupon. That would be a saving of $23.45 on the advertised price. Nice one, ozshaz .You sir, are a true ozbargainer :)

        • I think dicksmith online only allow one gift card to be used. Am I wrong?

        • Based on DSE terms there is no mention of this restriction:

          12.1

You may pay the fees and charges for an accepted order using the following payment methods:

          a.the following credit cards:

          i.Woolworths Everyday Money® Credit Card;
          ii.Visa;
          iii.American Express; and
          iv.Diners Club; or

          b.other payment methods:

          i.PayPal; and
          ii.WISH gift cards.

        • +2

I used multiple gift cards for the note..there are no restrictions..

    • buy Wish gift cards at woolies or bigw and they pay for the tablet with those

  • +2

you guys rock…i love mindreaders!! A friend of mine just bought a $2600 tv using paypass- 27 transactions at $99 each…very cool…

    • +3

Gee I'd be a bit concerned about this statement in the ING clause for the 5% discount however.

"The Wave & Save Rebates are intended to be used for everyday purchases only. Should you use the Wave & Save Rebates in a manner that is not satisfactory or in line with the intent of the offer, we may place a stop or freeze on your account or remove the account from the rebate."

I suppose one could argue what "everyday purchases" could mean. But hell if your mate got them to put a TV through with 27 $99 transactions then that is obviously OK by ING.

    • +5

I would prefer paying with 28 degree for the price guarantee . Tvs more likely will drop the price more than 5% in the next 6 months ;)

    • +5

Why would he pay $2673 for a $2600 tv?????????

      • +5

With your gravatar at the front, that reads perfectly :D

  • Are these tablets still up to the task or getting a bit slow for modern standards?

    • this one won't be a quick and smooth as an iPad but it is a lot cheaper. You can't get many other decent 10" tablets for this price

    • +2

My friend has one, it's really damn slow. Does not come close to a Nexus10/iPad.

  • I'm looking for a 10.1 inch tablet for the missus's birthday in June, I've been looking at this Zenithink http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330900010062?ssPageName=STRK:MEWA… - offer includes case and keyboard.
How is the Samsung worth so much more apart from having 16GB v 8GB of storage and being a household name? Genuine question because if you can convince me of the Samsung's plus points, I'll buy it - cheers.

    • I currently use a tablet with similar specs to this samsung but cost about half the price and works fine. battery life is fine etc etc

    • I personally wouldn't buy that thing based on the screen resolution alone.. performance and reliability concerns aside. I don't think the samsung is good enough to be worth buying at this stage either though to be honest.

  • My parents have decided they want a 10" tab rather than a nexus 7. Is this about the best in this price range. Sure a nexus 10 would be better but twice the price.

    • Depends how patient your parents are. I personally would not be able to put up with the slow speed of the GalaxyTab 10, nor the pixel density. Nexus7, on the other hand, will definitely be very snappy.

  • I likw samsung tablet! Wish a gift for my mother. :)

  • Thanks, just bought the white one for my mum.

720p mkv playback with anything less than Quad core could pose some problem, if that's the main reason you want one.

    • How does it use 4 cores to playback one video?

    • +1

Video playback uses the Video Controllers more than the Cores itself (except in Software mode). In fact, my 2.5 Year old Nokia N8 with a Single core ARM 11 @ 680Mhz runs 720p MKV's fine.

      • agreed. If you have a quad core laptop, take a look at how often all the cores are actually used.

  • Has anyone successfully pricematched the $269 @ officeworks? I'd imagine since the coupon can be used for click and collect, it would still count as the final price.

Edit* Just rang officeworks. They said that they'll pricematch the $279 since it's advertised, but not the $269 because of the coupon. So you still save $4 for pricematching. Depending on how far you have to travel it may be worth it :)

  • any idea when Australia will be getting Jelly Bean update on this device?
