  • does it have a dedicated video card?

Great price - was this in a catalogue, or was it a clearance item? I can't find a mention of it in the AusPost catalogues I could find.

  • where is the link to the cashback?

  • +1

I cant find any cashback info for this model from http://ec3.acer.com.au/AcerCashBack/ACA/Projects/CashBack/Lo…

    • likewise

  • cashback with acer is a headache, i got the $50 cashback with a tablet, but it the card never worked, and acer didnt want anything to do with it.

    • +2

acer has poor customer service from my past experience.
maybe all such companies have bad service.

Hence why you always rebuild a brand name PC before using :-)
(that and to guarantee no malware/virii shipped with it)

      • +1

Or you can buy re-imaged ex-lease corporate PCs/laptops, to get cheap quality gear with no crippled OS ("home edition") or crapware. Just a thought.

        • +1

          where pl?

I found this one is special on miranda post office, price mark: $249

    • Link no working

  • +1

How many were left in store? Would this be a clearance or state/nation wide?

  • +9

    Isn't $249 - $59 equal to $190?

  • Good price but the cpu is too slow

    • +3

      At sub-$200, I wouldn't complain

      • at $250 i wouldnt complain… any POs in Sydney selling it?

    • +2

According to most benchmarks, its not doing too badly surprisingly - only a tad (<10%) of a Sandy Bridge i3. Under $200 is unheard of. Too bad the PO's are closed tomorrow or I'd pick one up.

  • Cheap, but probably only good for average activities like internet browsing and office suite. mother's day present?

  • Can anyone advise on how well this might run older games, such as The Sims 2 (plus expansions) and games like Zoo Tycoon? The 7 year old desktop PC mum is currently using just ain't cutting it anymore.

    • Very smoothly, in my opinion, to the extent you will be 100% happy.

    • Zoo tycoon has troubles with Win7 AFAIK

  • +2

Outstanding! Most people really don't need anything better than this.

  • don't mind something like this for everyday use, any other PO bsides Miranda doing this?

    price matching?

  • +1

    great for basic web browsing!

  • Nice!! I had no idea the Post Office sells computers! Does anyone know if the Burwood Post Office in Sydney would have some? I'll call them when they open on Monday, just figured i'd ask! Thanks OP!!!!!!!

  • Good price with the cash back.

Bought one in November 2012 for $349 (after $59 cashback). Good for a backup/spare computer as it handles basic netbrowsing and office fine. Gets a bit slow if too many things open.

  • I got this 18hrs after posting…
Does anyone know where this deal is???? The "go to deal" spot takes you to a larger photo of the buyers receipt and not to the deal. Darned if I could find it anyway…..
I too don't give a darn if it doesn't have a dedicated video card (gasp… at that price) or only does "general" tasks like internet and wording(not gaming capabilities!)
Someone advise where to go, for those of us who wish to buy and not prattle while the bargains disappear… if they haven't already (help - leon 3758?)

  • Put the cashback toward a 128Gb SSD and external caddy for the 500Gb drive you pull out.

    Bargain laptop with numpad!

    • You could even get a 60gb ssd, or 32gb if you're good at keeping it slim. Chances are for the lower specs, you wont be installing anything heavy on it. You could always pull out the dvd drive and put the 500gb drive in it as well with adapter of course.

      • +1

        DVD slot to HDD adapter/bracket??

Wow, I had never seen those before. Thanks for mentioning!

        • Generally referred to as "2nd hdd caddy" at least on ebay. I see a couple available around the $29 mark at a brick and mortar like Scorptek and CPL but ebay is generally going the $6-9 mark.

  • +1

I doubt this is a deal that you can find at most post offices, its old stock which is getting cleared.

  • +1 to OP.

I'd pull the trigger on this deal but the Acer cashback page is what is holding me back - cashback models are not listed - blank (not that I doubt the OP).

    • Already got the acer cashback claim number, waiting cash back. the model 5560 cash back expire: 30/6/13

  • Install linux and you've got a nice little home server for sub-$200.

    • Linux boooo :)

  • Looks to be a clearance item - local post store knows nothing! Certainly would have bought one if available.

  • Where can this be found im after on in South Australia

  • +3

So… anyone manage to find one apart from OP?

    • I did, on the Gold Coast. Phoning was useless as these don't appear to be in the system, you just have to drive around and check. This was the only one I could find though so they are rare.

  • Nothing in PO morningside qld

  • +2

Got the last one at Epping (VIC). BIG THANKS to the OP, unbelievable bargain! They also had the Toshiba C850 for $249 so might be worth asking around for that. Auspost Product code for the Toshiba is 18350 if anyone wants to ask around for stock.

  • +2

Many thanks OP got one from Eastland PO (Melbourne). I rang the central AP phone number and told them what I was looking for. The kind CSR checked her system and told me the closest one to me was at Eastland, which is just the next suburb from where I live. She rang the Eastland PO and asked them to put it on hold for me. 15 minutes later I had the computer in my hands. So thanks again OP and thanks to AP for their great service.

The CSR also mentioned she'd had a few calls today about this laptop, so I'd say a few others may have managed to pick one up too.

  • None at PO wynnum central nor wynnum plaza mall

  • No stock in WA

  • No stock SA :(

  • I got one from the Tuggerah PO 29/4/13. Mine came with an additional Acer Care Protection Plan Activation code (additional 12 months warranty), plus $59 cashback. Bargain.

  • I ended up getting the $249 toshiba at Capalaba since the acers were gone…thanks for the tip billy bob!

  • What model is the Toshiba?

  • Toshiba C850 but its last years Pentium 950 processor I think

    • Actual model number? C850/04G or something similar. There are lots of different versions of the C850.

  • Any one that purchased know if the "Aspire 5560" is quad (AMD A8-3520M) or dual (AMD A4-3300)?

    • A4-3305M

      • If it was quad core I would of jumped on :(
        Oh well thx.

  • It is the C850/074.

Battery life will be poor with only a 3 cell battery.

    • Yes it's the 074. Yes poor battery life but luckily for me, battery life was not too much of an issue.

  • thanks a bunch leon3758 I went into my local p.o. the other day and asked about this model and the guy looked up on the system and saw that their were a few left at some other stores and said he would ring them in the morning.
Anyway I hadn't heard anything and presumed he had no luck then today I get a call saying it is at my local p.o. and ready to pickup woohoo! When I picked it up I said to the guy about the cashback then he said it had cost him over $500 to get it in for me as it's old stock. I was intending on giving it to the kids to use but not sure now after using it a bit as its heaps better than the netbook I use:)
