  • Specs of phone in link: CPU1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor

    • -1

They are both Octa core but the black one has an incorrect specification for the processor (chipset is correct for the Octa)

  • +3

    That's 3G model only. $739 + 19 shipping = $758 (1 year warranty only)

Not worth it! I might think about it if it's $600

    • +2

      3G = Octo core
      4G = quad core

    • But sammobile suggests differently. In summary: Octa core supports 20 LTE bands.
So maybe it is region limited, software limited or carrier limited…

      • +1

Samsung Exynos reported to SammyHUB about the Exynos 5 Octa processor for the Galaxy S4. According to SamsungExynos the Exynos 5 Octa will support all the bands of LTE (20). So in other words, the Exynos chip  from Samsung supports the same things as the Snapdragon 600 by Qualcomm. Because Samsung couldn’t produce Exynos 5 Octa on time Samsung decided to use the Snapdragon 600 in some countries!

  • If u click on the specs on the white one it says:

    CPUQuad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7

    What does that mean?
    Misprint?

    • +1

No it has 8 cores, a sum of 2 CPUs

    • +1

Octo core is two quad cores running high and low specs

    • It means there are 2 cores. When the extra power is needed, the phone fires up the more powerful quad core processor to do the work.

      • Ahhhh… Thanks guys, didn't know much about this new phone, so wasn't aware :(
        Now I know :)

  • +1

but but but WHYYYY make a 3G version?

    • +1

For all the people that don't frequently visit the cbd.

      • +2

Telstra 4G will pretty much cover all metro areas by June 2013. It's not just limited to CBD areas anymore - get with the times!

        • +4

then for all the people that are not with Telstra :)

        • +2

Are you sure about that? If so, they got a lot of work to do in the next few weeks(for WA at least), http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/coverage-networks/ou… Also not everyone is with Telstra.

        • +1

The coverage maps are no where near accurate. Theres 4g in heaps of places not shown…

        • Yep exactly right - Telstra won't be updating the coverage maps until all the upgrades are completed.

As announced in August 2012, Telstra will be expanding 4G coverage to cover 66% of the 'population' by June 2013. people in Cranbourne VIC are also reporting they have recently got 4G and this is outside the planned expansion of Telstra 4G in Melbourne!

Even Optus coverage is very good for people living in the metro region
          - you can get on Optus 4G via Vaya. Some very competitive plans.

IMO, the i9500 doesn't represent value for money. Although it's slightly more powerful you won't really notice in most of the basic tasks most of us do and it's network limited to 3G (does it even have DC-HSPA+?). Say you want to upgrade to 4G in the near future if/when you get coverage, work in a 4G area or move homes to a 4G area, also higher resell value in the future? - lots of things to consider before jumping in and buying one!

        • i agree not too concern with the extra speed that the octa core offer. However it will be interesting whether the battery life is better compared to the snapdragon

        • While that may be the case, I'm not sure it's worth it though. I got one of the 4G wireless APs during the Dick Smith price cock-up and have noticed that speeds within the CBDs are pretty awful (even with full signal strength).

I have been using this a fair bit in the Perth, Syd and Melb CBDs (in the last 2 months) and have observed speeds averaging 1-2Mbps. This is pretty pathetic and definitely does not justify the horrendous premium that you need to pay for 4G data (thankfully I have my free 1 year 4G voucher! :P). Moreover, I noticed that at peak times 3G is significantly faster than 4G or DC on the Telstra network.

I guess the backhaul for most cellular providers is already saturated with a large number of 4G users. :) Oh well… NBN fibre should drag Australia kicking and screaming into the 21st century (and about damn time).

    • +2

4G is still highly unavailable coverage wise

    • A budget option for places do not have 4G. The same as how the S3 had versions with different CPUs

    • So that they can have the Octa core version available.

At the moment it would take up too much power to put both LTE and 8 cores into a phone. We'll probably see that in the note 3.

    • +1

For some country that doesn't have 4G/LTE network, like Taiwan…

    • +2

alot of people could care less about 4G. I use 3G and it is perfectly acceptable for my uses. Other times on wifi. data is expensive in Australia anyway. I get 1.5gb, and even with 3G I get close to it each month.

      • +1

Agreed. I have a s3 4G with lte turned off cause it just drains my battery

    • Basically so samsung can use their own processor without paying qualcomm for LTE patent royalties

  • +1

Correct me if I am wrong, but at any one time this phone is only a quad core?

    • Pretty much, one lower power set of 4 cores, one higher.

    • That was also my understanding. Either it uses the lower speed but more power efficient quad cores when it can or the higher speed quad cores.

  • +5

    Pffft needs more cores…

  • +8

Surely it is only Apple that have Cores ?

  • -8

it says ships one to two week….too slow…

    • +4

Kogan says that to be safe. Others who have ordered with a wait time of 2-3 weeks have gotten theirs in just a few days.

  • +6

    Bro, do you even core?

  • I dont know which model it was but The JB HI FI Melbourne CBD store had them in stock today but the price is $798.00 for Oz stock and local warranty.

    • Australia only gets the 4G Qualcomm (single 4 core) processors officially.

  • +2

Let the price drop begin :)

  • I have no idea why anyone would but a non 4g high end phone these days

    • +2

      I'm on a $11 plan, point me in the direction of a 4g $11 plan…

      Apart from that, I agree.

      • Vaya has one but vaya is a complete and utter rip off. The way they bill their data means that your data usage is billed for about 4 times your actual usage, it's absurd, I transferred off to telstra again and it's actually CHEAPER. Go figure.

      • I am on LiveConnected $11 plan and love it will be staying on it for as long as possible. I have no need for 4G. 3G is plenty fast enough on my Galaxy S3. I buy my phones outright and this plan works perfectly.

        • +2

Fair enough. I thought 3G was fine till I used 4G, now 3G drives me nuts but I am just that kind of guy, hate going backwards when I have seen how much greener the grass is on the other side.

Don't take that as a criticism of your choices in any way though :-)
