  • does this $50 cashback need to be declared as an income when doing tax return?

    • if you supplied your tfn to the bank, then yes

      • What about the 5% ing cash back?

        • that what i'm not 100% sure. it's not classed as interest, it's a rebate offer so i'd say no, but i'm no tax agent, so ask them.

  • Hey, Just some advice. I just made three online payments using this card to pay my optus bill. It has shown up as three $10+ transactions on the ME Bank online statement thingy. I have not yet received the $50. Do you guys think online bills are excluded from this deal?

    • Did you pay via BPay or use it as a Credit Card?

      • As a credit card. Maybe I'm just impatient. How long did it take for everyone else to get the big $50?

        • I think I got an email saying I had qualified within a week of the 3rd transaction and the money came in a few days later.

  • +1

I didnt get mine yet :(
    No email either

    • depends when you signed up, if they're anything like ING, they'll do them in batches depending on when you completed it all

  • just got another email notification that my bonus payment is on its way..

hoping for a second bonus payment. lol

    • +1

i just got a second one two minutes ago as well

      • Yup, me too!
but I already closed my account so.. dang.

      • How did you manage to score the bonus twice?
Two accounts for two different people or split personality ;-)?

        Either way, good on ya!

        • I got a second email, not a second payment.

        • Yes. My hubby got another email today as well. It's identical to the one received before. … Not sure if we should spend another 3*$10 to get another $50????

    • I havent received my first payment as yet.. let alone a second one!

  • lol I got a 2nd email too. Sadly my account is closed so I don't think it's going anywhere.

  • any clue if theres a fee to use the debit card as a credit card at say a petrol station like 7/11?
Hope they don't mind me buying 11$ of petrol 3 times lol.

    • +1

You have to use it as a credit card to get bonus. But remember deposit enough money before you use it.

      • yeah I've deposited some money but was wondering whether theres a fee to use a credit card with 7/11 I remember this being a problem with my with a previous credit card. like a 2% fee to use a credit card at their location or something.

        • +1

If you are talking of a surcharge on credit cards, then yes, you will need to pay it if you use the credit account on the card. This is similar to what Aldi does.

        • bummer oh well still almost $50 free.

        • +1

I don't think 7/11 charges a transaction fee on Mastercard. The small fee you said is normally imposed by the small shops when they prefer cash payment, and there is always a note near the cash register telling you about the surcharge.

7/11 has paywave, so you can just tap and go.

If you are still worried, just ask the cashier if there is any surcharge using the credit card before you pay. I highly doubt there is one.

        • oh cool always wanted to try that pay wave thing. too bad it's not built into the pumps at the one near me. Wonder how the tellers gonna feel when I come in buy 11$ and repeat 2 more times ha.

so just to confirm paypass is considered a Credit function then?
from what little I can find on whirlpool/master cards website looks like it is but just want to confirm.

also neat the new paypass uses nfc tech so you don't have to worry as much like those rfid cards.

        • +1

PayPass transactions are included. You can read OP's post. It's part of the T&C of the promo.

I'm not quite sure about the NFC things though.

        • +1

NFC (Near Field Communication) is technology jargon for contactless communication.

PayPass and PayWave are product branding by MasterCard and Visa, respectively, for contactless payments using cards.

Though NFC encompasses much more than just payment cards (mobile, security, etc), within the purview of this discussion, they all mean the same.

        • Yeah but it's even cooler then Rfid based cards because with those anyone with a rfid reader in a briefcase walking down the street near you can read your card where as Nfc only works within a practical distance of 4cms so that makes it a lot more difficult for the briefcase reader to be used. They would need to pretty much bump into you and know where your card is to do this successfully.

        • oh sweet thats pretty definitive ha surprised I forgot to look up there.
          Thanks :D

  • No mate. It's all good.

  • just received my $50…now will wait for a few days before i close it… :)

  • I just got my $50. Very happy with these guys compared to commbank.

  • Does anyone know when the 30 days starts? I just got back from o/s to find the card here, but its been well over 30 days since I opened the account. Is it 30 days after activation?

    • "within the first 30 days of the account being opened" wonder how long it took them to mail me the card now :/

    • Scaregdearimasu is correct.

It's within 30 days FROM ACCOUNT OPENING.

Given the scenario you described, you almost certainly won't get paid.

  • Last day to open an account

  • i have got my $50 now… how long you guys before you clsoe your account ? and what reason to give?
I havent done this in the past so just cant think of good excuse to close my accoun t:)

    • No reason to think of excuses. Don't worry, they won't ask for their money back :-).

Simply call them and tell them you want all accounts closed and Internet Banking removed. Then, cut up the debit card and chuck in the bin.

      Account closing completed!

      • cool.. thanks

  • Did anyone get another email saying "YOUR BONUS IS ON ITS WAY"? This is the third time I am getting this - just the email, not the bonus. Looks like a bug in the email delivery system.

    • still haven't gotten my email how long after the three purchases do you have to wait?

    • me too…

      third email.. Grrr

  • Received my $50! Very easy cash! =)

    • Cool just got mine too never did get the email letting me know I had correctly made 3 purchases though

  • Just received the $50 :D

  • I haven't recieved my $50 yet :-(

    • Same here…still waiting.

  • got my $50 a few days ago, just cancelled my account. Any word of when is the next cash bonus!!!

    • Make sure your internet banking ID is disabled as well.

You need to cut all ties with ME Bank in order to ensure success in the next promo

Did not get my $50 and ME Bank refuses to honor.

I opened my account beginning of May. Debit card was received mid June, therefore impossible to fulfill the criteria (3 credit transactions within 30 days).

I have forwarded a complaint to ME Bank without success. Just lodged a dispute with the Financial Ombudsman Service.

    • Let me know how you go.

I made the same complaint. I thought the account activation would have been from when the card was activated.

I told them how can I use the account when I don't get the card till a week after the application.

      • They told me this never happened before…

    • Ha you actually have a card. I haven't even got mine yet even though I applied in June and got the SMS and email saying that my account is open. They look like a mob of incompetents to be charitable. Otherwise, how convenient that I can't get the bonus within the 30 days, huh?

      • It turns out that they sent it to the wrong address. When I contacted them, they had dropped a digit from the front of my address. I'm pretty sure the right address was entered since it was autofilled by them using electoral rolls. That really makes me confident in their competence. Not!

Oh well, at least the card is on the way, so they say. Could still be useful as a MC debit card for paying greedy airlines.

  • I didn't get it either. I made the transactions about 2 weeks after I activated the card (which I thought was the date of opening the account), but they say the transactions were 31 days after I had opened it :-(

    • I thought the same…got jipped!!
Anywhoo, closed the account straight after, ready for next time.
