  • Better to buy now for $89 if you don't need the itunes card

  • It's showing as $89 delivered without $20 itunes card right now, good for people who don't need the itunes credit.
It might bump up to $99 come 5pm.

  • Can someone give me a heads up on the following…

I have an iPad2. Is this Apple TV all I need to be able to send a signal to my TV?
Or do I need a computer as well?

    • +2

Nope, that's all you need. I have an iPad2 and ATV3.
If you have iOS 5.0 or above you'll be able to mirror the display to the ATV.
      (Wireless router needed too obviously)

      • You mean I cannot have a wireless connection between the ATV and the ipad? Was thinking of getting it for travel and connecting it to hotel room's tv, stream movies from ipad…

oh well sounds like it wont work.

        • +1

Would work, but yep need an extra bit as unco mentioned…. for example a pocket wifi thingie or even use your mobile as an AP - then both ATV and iPad connect over the AP via wifi….

        • Adding an AirPort Express to the mix is another option if you want to keep it all in the Apple family. Simply plug it in to the wall and you've got an instant wifi network for your devices to connect to.

Just an alternative to pocket wifi or phone as AP as Spaceman mentioned.

    • What u need is an Apple's Digital AV Adapter.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0RRhkE2BYk

    • +1

your tv needs to have an hdmi input :)

  • +2

i heard the aptv2 sold for $199 at ebay. crazy jailbreakers

  • +1

Still no $99 and itunes card. 17:07 here.

  • What is the likelihood of paying $89 with free delivery now (post 17:00 EST)and claiming the $20 card after the purchase? Slim?

    • +2

The card is added in the cart so if you don't see it when you go to pay, it won't be sent to you.

      • but it's not automatically added when the apple tv is

        • Yeah, something wrong with the deal as it says $20 off ($89) is the actual deal when purchasing…

    • keep a screenshot of the offer and you should be fine :)

      http://dailydeals.make-agency.com.au/au

(or add/pay for itunes card then request refund)

      • You wont got both an $89 Apple TV and $20 itunes card. You will get one offer or the other.

        • but if the offer is $89 appletv with bonus $20 itunes then you should - except that the deal has now changed to $99 + $20

        • But that is not the offer. I contacted them over the phone and you can chose 1 option or the other until the website is rectified.

        • buy online = offer online not over the phone :)

    • In the small print down the bottom it says, "Bonus iTunes Gift Card not available online."!? What!? Actually it also states it in the bullet points too!?

      • -1

that's new - another updated offer - typical dse

their it dept has much to answer for - again, yet again, as usual :(

  • +8

Eh no thanks, AppleTV is gimped everywhere but the US.

There at least half a dozen better options just to name a few

    • a Quad Core, 2Gig, Android 4.2 HDMI stick
    • WDTV Live Streaming Media Player
    • Roku 3
    • Raspberry Pi B
    • Your existing PC/laptop/iOS/Android devices
    • Your PS3/Xbox 360
    • Too bad none of those support airplay properly, which is why I got the atv.

      • Define properly? I use airplay with XBMC, except it doesn't do mirroring.

I'm eagerly awaiting the ATV3 to be jailbroken, but doubt it's ever going to happen, so for now, my Intel NUC will suffice (which is an awesome piece of kit).

      • +1

I use airplay all the time with XBMC.

    • That's true if you just use it as is, out of the box.
Get a VPN for Hulu/Netflix. And I add all my blu-rays and DVDs to iTunes with metadata so I can stream them all to my iPad/Apple TV/iPhone.

  • This is such a good little machine, just wish it would play files from shares…

  • It's interesting the DSE website is now showing the item at $99, but still no iTunes Card in the basket.

    • quick save screenshot!

note the product overview still has the deal being $89

Bonus iTunes Gift Card not available online. According to the bottom of the page.

      • Sneaky. I got a screen shot on my phone before they added that condition.

  • Looks like this deal is probably either $89 online now or $99 + iTunes card in store tomorrow.

  • -4

Clearly states "Bonus iTunes Gift Card not available online."

    • I'm not sure why you got downvoted, that's what the page says. It's very unclear.

      • Jighuv neg'ed the deal. Their negative vote was revoked once the community cast 6 negative votes against their comment.

  • Title updated accordingly.

    Have a good evening

      Thanks…deliberating getting one.

  • Thanks Op, either way its a good deal.

  • Obviously it's not the OP's fault, but who has ever heard of online daily deal offer that is not available online? Or part of the deal advertised is intentionally excluded. Why do Dick Smith continually shoot themselves in the foot? You had better read their fine print or get burned.

  • +1

Saw the ad on TV just now promoting the deal + iTunes card, kept an eye on the fine print and there was nothing about the iTunes card not being available online.
She even says "available online or in stores tomorrow"

    • Just heard the ad on the radio . It's being advertised as available in store and at dicksmith.com.au

  • Now on back order. Product ships on arrival. ETA unavailable

This deal is going from bad to worse for DS.

  • +1

Got one from Nunawading Home HQ. Around 10 left in the cabinet.

  • My workmate and I just picked up one each at the Nambour store (Sunshine Coast), still had a couple left on the shelf, at the back of the store with the TV's. We were the first customers for it today in that store!

  • +2

I think "Times Dicking" is not a good catch phrase for them to use on the advertising page.

just got one this morning. and probably i am gonna sell the 20bucks card for 10 as i really dont need it.

  • Called in DSE Sydney city and the guy told me that they have plenty of stocks. Went in and was told that all sold out! Grrrhhh! Then I took a photo of the deal and walked down to the Apple store and they price matched them just like that! LoL! Hail to the Apple store! Forever Fanboy before Cook is cooked!

  • Seems like a good deal. Tempted to buy one and run Plex from my Server to my TV. Video Card on the N54 struggles from time to time.

    Hopefully no one gets stung…

I have a WD Live atm so not sure if I should purchase this deal

    • I've got both. They do different things.

  • Got one at Ashfield store this arvo, and I can confirm that it is the latest (2013) version (Apple TV 3,2 - model number A1469), and not the 2012 version (Apple TV 3,1 - model number A1427) if that matters to you. The main difference is that the 2013 version is more energy efficient than the 2012 version. Otherwise the specs are pretty much the same as far as I can tell from my research. Good deal overall, thanks OP.

  • Bought one this afternoon from a local DSE in Perth, also confirming it's the latest 2013 version and doesn't have the bad WiFi serial number.

Pretty good bargain. Logged into my Australian iTunes account, changed the DNS server to tunelr.net, change the store to United States (it doesn't log you out of your Australian iTunes account, or at least Home Sharing etc continues to work fine), and Netflix appeared and started up.

Loving it and a good deal. There's speculation a new model may be in the works because the last one was released in March 2012, but then again this silent hardware update was just two months ago, and they don't always release big features on it like they do with other products.

It's worth a gamble if you're invested in the Apple ecosystem or want Netflix.

    • Would love to see local Netflix on the Apple TV here with comparable pricing in the US. Also wished support for apps like iView, SBS on Demand and TuneIn.

Until that happens, still need that WD TV next to it.

      • what about airplay mirroring?
