Wouldn't battery life be pretty bad for a 15.6 Inch Screen 4 Cell Battery?

    • +3

      Yes

Another corner that manufacturers can cut at this price point and get away with it . I'd rather the six cells for an extra $50 .

For $100 you can buy a cheap Chinese two-stroke generator to charge your laptop, just tell those Cityrail security guards to mind their own damn business!

      but… It's Adele :)

I'm waiting for the 1366x768 resolution to just die already.

    • +7

      For $420?

      • +7

        In general, for any price.

      • +4

At 420 no one will be paying attention to the resolution anyway. It's more about the colours…

if you're buying Sony, it's been killed off already! http://www.theverge.com/2013/5/7/4306786/sonys-new-vaio-fit-…
      quote "We're not going to offer 1366 x 768. We've killed that."

    Thank you

Lol u got negged for saying that??

Wasn't me, but someone most likely took offence of the poster's poor sentence structure and misuse of the English language.

  • This price ends on Sunday midnight. And this laptop is party of Jb hifi's 15% off sale on laptops

  • +4

this laptop uses a ultra low voltage i3 Ivy Bridge CPU, so this is a very good price for this sort of machine.

  • Anyone have an idea of how much this weighs?

  • +7

Weight is 2.32 kg. More information here:

i7-3517U model is $763, has a decent graphics card and a bigger 6 cell battery: http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/dell/15-inch-notebook-sku…

i5-3337U model is $508. JB has mistakenly listed it as having a M series processor on their site. Also has the 6 cell battery:

    Review:
    http://compreviews.about.com/od/budgetnote/fr/Dell-Inspiron-…

Says that the 4 cell battery lasted 4:15 hours during video playback.

  • Hope it given the choice of installing Win 7 instead of just pure Win 8..

    • Only Windows 8 but powershell should make it just like W7

  • +1

If you ask me these are a better deal. Especially if you're not going to take advantage of the ULV processor in this thing and don't need the extra HDD space.

  • I wonder if this thing has Gigabit ethernet?

I'm thinking this could make a good HTPC and basic NAS combo using a USB3 raid enclosure.
The ivy bridbe cpu and intel 4000 graphics can do 1080p no problems. It has HDMI output too.

    • No. From the Dell site, inspiron-15-3521 has "Internal 10/100 Fast Ethernet".

  • Is there any reason this cpu should run hot? On paper it looks like it would be cool, very low TDP, but most of the reviews I can find of a laptop using it all mention the termperature. Including the Intel NUC.

    • +1

probably because the CPU and GPU are both on the same chip.

  • This viable for photo editing/shopping?

    • +2

How much photoshopping and editting do you do? Do you do it as a living, or just someone whom does it casually. If you are doing photoshopping a lot, then you might be better off with something with more CPU grunt. If you only doing it once in a while, then it would fine.

      • Thanks, I just wasn't sure because I've heard that the i3 and i5 processors these days are pretty powerful.

        • -2

i do not think that i3's are much more powerful than 2 year old dual core ones.

After the JB deal expires, there's a few new Inspiron 15s at the Dell Outlet:
    - $419 with i3-3217U, 500GB Hard Drive, 6-cell (65WHr) Battery (DFO-2188425IP, Qty=2)
    - $429 same specs as $419 model (DFO-150422IP, Qty=10)

    • OMG!!! check out the last listing on that page… that's a hell of a lot of value for under $1000

      • Haswell chip is coming next month. It has very long battery life. I reckon lots of great deals for old stock will be coming through.

        • I gotta say, its uncanny how many laptop 'bargains' are popping up all of a sudden with the impending EOFY.

          Watch this space..

    • Nice find on that inspiron 15 i3

    • The JB price has gone up to $498.

      There's still 10 at the Dell Outlet, now for $417 (with i3-3217U, 500GB Hard Drive, 6-cell 65WHr Battery, DFO-2188453IP)…

      http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

  • I bought one of the i5's for $508 for my parents…really good value for an i5 I think :)

    • It doesnt hurt i guess but i5 is overkill for a mum laptop. I have an i5 in my $1800 gaming pc.
And for anyone reading this thinking "oooh the i7's are cheap, i7 must be more powerful" forget it. They have limited applications for the majority of the market and are mainly for professional use.

      • The laptop i5 is only dual core compared to the desktop quad core. Found that out the hard way when I bought a laptop I hoped on using as a virtual host.

  • funnily enough we went to get this and it was 15% off HP+ acer as well so my mate ended up with a slightly less attractive HP with all around better graphics card and processor.

    specs
    1.8ghz for dell
    2.63ghz for the HP

    same price

  • I got one last week but I change my mind now.
I am gonna sell it for 380 anybody interested?
