I've been looking for a gaming laptop, and one of the models I'm trying to decide between is the Lenovo Legion so I've been checking it out periodically for deals. Now here's a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16" with RTX 5070 Ti GPU for under $5K, saving over $1K from the RRP.

Other specs include 64GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 16" 2560x1600 OLED screen.

Be sure to enter the code JULY25.

Also, if you sign up for Lenovo Rewards you will accrue $106 in rewards points which you can apply against accessories or other items from the Lenovo store - e.g., a backup, 2nd power adapter, etc.

You can customise it - but the RAM is already maxxed out, so options are 5080 GPU for $1K more, 5090 GPU for $1.7K more, Windows 11 Pro for $100 more. Based on that, I think the 5070Ti is a good sweet spot. If you're keen to know the differences, a YouTuber goes into huge detail on how much incremental gain you get from higher model GPUs in this model laptop here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAL3F0BFsNY

I bought the HP Omen max 5070ti for $3270 as part of the ebay EOFY deals, it had less ram 32 vs 64Gb, otherwise all the other features look the same.
So this is not that cheap.

      How do you find it?

      • I bought it as a desktop replacement, the laptop itself isn't too bad from a weight perspective but the power brick is literally the size of a house brick and it's heavy.
The OLED screen is great and overall fit and finish is nice. No noticable fan noise under normal use and it doesn't seem to get hot.
Haven't actually gamed on it but it was an upgrade from a Intel 2500k with ati 4850 crossfire so to me it will be fast.

It's a big old gaming laptop, too heavy to lug around to class. Might as well build an itx PC with more power, and get a cheap laptop for word/excel if needed at uni.

    • It's 2.5kg, which isn't too bad. I remember having a 17" ASUS gaming laptop in 2010 which was over 4kg - they've definitely slimmed down since.

That said, you can get lighter gaming laptops - the ASUS Zephyrus is a great one, but then you have the tradeoff of reduced performance but that may not be as noticeable with the 5070Ti as it would be with the 5090.

      • I just like the performance, upgradability and reliability of a pc. Laptops are just too restricted. But if you don't mind whipping out the big laptop in classes or whatever, I guess it's not a big deal.

Oh hey, Jarrod has entered the chat. I did have a related query, Jarrod. The handful of times I've checked out your https://gaminglaptop.deals/australia/ best gaming laptops site, some of the items listed are a mix of old generation and/or unavailable. For example the Lenovo Gaming 2023 LOQ 15IRX9 is currently unavailable, but it's also a couple of years old. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 14.5-inch Ultra-9 could be compelling, but it's out of stock. I do like the idea of another 14"-ish laptop after using this Asus Zephyrus G14 for 4.5 years, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth.

About how frequently does the site get updated? I've just subscribed to updates, so hopefully I'll find out the next time something new gets added.

      Thanks for reading.

Oh I meant to also ask, is this deal even approaching decent value? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/915650 There's a bit of chat in there about the RTX 5070 Ti Mobile GPU being not that great. Wondering what your thoughts are on this unit at over $4k!

If something is unavailable it's just because I haven't updated the site recently. I try to do it every couple of days in terms of just clear out the old stuff, but it's completely a manual process, so if stuff goes out of stock it won't reflect straight away until I check again. I do one big update on Saturday morning for all 5 non-US countries where I spend a few hours going through all the sites. Just not practical to do that much more often. We make an exception from the US, but most of our viewers come from there so that just is what it is. Nothing wrong with a couple of years old if the price is right IMO. The Helios goes in and out of stock, we seem to have it up every other week.

The lowest we have seen that Legion so far is $3999, so that's basically the same price and it has double the SSD space and RAM of the one I recorded, so yeah it's decent, but we don't list edu sales on the site, we want stuff everyone can get. 5070 Ti is only a little under 4080, and the lowest we ever had the 4080 Legion Pro 7i on the site was $3799 with 32GB/1TB/no OLED, so $230 extra for that, not too bad.

Thanks for the thorough response! I think I've got my work cut out for me researching new laptops this time round. About 5 years ago, I saw yours and a bunch of prominent other YouTubers' vids on the Asus Zephyrus G14, and everyone seemed to be raving about it. I ended up getting one and it's been excellent to this day, just the battery life is leaving a lot to be desired now.

What's with all the Zephyrus models now costing way more than they ever did back then!? Apart from one factory refurb unit I just spotted at megabuy, they're all easily over $3k, and for only the R9 8945HS/RTX4050/16G/512 SSD spec. That's not worth anything near that money.

I know it doesn't exist, but I "just" want thin and light, but also reasonably powerful for under $3k 😂

I remember getting 4070 Legion 5 pro couple of years back with cashback for 2k & was very happy with it but now when I look at similar laptops from lenovo then prices have increased by 800-1000 within a span of 2-3 years.
