Lenovo Legion 7i (specs below):

  • Retail store: $4,869 for 64GB RAM or $4,999 for 32GB RAM. I don't know why it's cheaper (extra $500 to ugpgrade 32 to 64GB)
  • EDU store: $3,511.99 (32GB RAM)

This deal includes:
Lenovo points EDU: $162 + $400 with the $1 monitor per the advert ($562), or
Lenovo points retail: $625. I suspect the $400 points have not been automatically included in EDU, but they have in retail.

Both EDU and retail has the following deal, each for $1 when purchasing the laptop. Links are retail store:

Cash back very occasionally includes EDU, so check that, too. Cart comes to $3,611.99 including code LEVELUP then an additional-$100 with code EDUAPR, bringing total price to $3,511.99.

The deals are available on all Legion Pro 7i models including the 5070Ti (12GB), 5080 (16GB), 5090 (24GB):

  • curious about the weight…

    • i can't find it as well

      • -5

chatgpt said it is approximately 2.57 kg (5.7 lbs)

    • +3

      It's in the specification: Starting at < 2.72kg / 6lbs

      • Thank you. I've been caught out in the past not also considering the size and weight of the AC Adapter. I had an MSI 230W adapter weigh 1kg, and was the size of half a brick.

        • You can use USB-C PD in a pinch, although obviously not for gaming.

        • +1

Hahaha, good one. Yeah those ones with 200w+ is huge. USB-C PD won't work either because it won't be able to supply that much power.

        • MSI 330w from the titan series. Weighs in at 1.2kg. Must have some thick copper coils inside for a laptop power adapter. The laptop weighed more…

  • +4

AC Adapter / Power Supply: 400W

    That's a big boi

    • I've got one of those for my LOQ. If it's anything like mine, the Nvidia GPU kicks in only if the power adapter is connected.

  • The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i (16", Gen 10) feels a bit too heavy for me. Anyone know of any similar deals for something like the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14? My son is looking for something powerful but lighter.

    • +4

The trade off is always performance vs weight, lighter and thinner laptops will have lower tdp as they can't fit more heatpipe/sinks/vapor chamber.

Don't buy current generation if you want a deal. Only decent deals on 50xx laptops are really from Lenovo, all new Asus ROG /MSI/Auorus laptops are basically RRP at retail and 10% off in the business/education JB Hifi portal.

If you want thin and light you can always look at Strix Halo Asus Z13, you will be paying for it though, at $4086 at the JB business store.

      • But JB hi-fi business portal via Westpac has very limited models

    • Maybe something like this?

      https://www.jw.com.au/product/asus-tuf-gaming-a14-14-r-ai-9-…

They aren't built as well as the g14, but has a metal lid and base I believe.

Unfortunately, there aren't many places in Australia selling it

    • I've got my eye on this https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops…?

not sure if its a good deal or if its ever going to be in stock, but i've noticed they added the discounted price this week.

2 year old CPU, but they didnt do anything new for last years CPU.

  • Any deals for the $1500-2000 range floating about in the edu store? Rtx 4060 etc

    • +1

I was about to say all these latest 50 series gaming laptops released with such crazy prices up north of $4k-$5k, with all the cost of living pain, no way I can afford one … Hoping the 40 series ones will come down prices quicker

    • I'm not much of a techie, but if you give me simple instructions on what to look for, I'll let you know and you can compare with the retail site. (eg, screen size, cpu, gpu, ram)..I looked at your price range and there's 44 laptops.

      • I wish the outlet had some 4070rtx's. Way overpriced for 4060rtx imho.

Share my experience with Lenovo legion for your reference.
It seems a good deal if you need a gaming monitor and you plan to buy something else on sale at levono.
The levono point at $500 is insane. I used the points to buy a tab on sale
The net value is similar to what my 5i bought few months ago. And this is 5070 and 12gb, mine is 4070. Good machine, solid, not very heavy and bulky for 16”, I have a 14” dell latitude to compare. The charger is huge, but you can use usb c charger for no gaming tasks.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah, I thought a monitor for $1 and $562 points might be interesting for some people. If they can truly use it, it brings the price to $2.5k for a $5k retail laptop, and they still get a backpack, mouse, and extra premium year warranty for $2.10. It caught my eye when I was browing IdeaPads. If I see any future deals I'll post them if people are interested.

      • The monitor is trash for gaming tho, VA and the motion smear is pretty bad (even just scrolling in the menus). It is fine for general officework, youtube. I got it and put it in the office for spreadsheets lol.

        • I mean its fine for a free monitor (essentially) but come on calling it 2K UHD 😭😭😭lenovo wasnt cooking with this one ey

      • Just noted that I haven’t upvoted this yet.

  • +2

I hold my reservation about price to perf% given benchmarks pitching it just below a 4080 of last gen and given we have seen quite the 2.5k or sub 4080 deals. Sure OLED is nice and the bonus needs to be factored in but gen to gen its not looking worthwhile and even if you argue on that power efficiency side of things that 275x and 400w brick just put the nail in the coffin against any power savings made on the gpu side. Perhaps hold for more deals on other models to hit the market?

And man given Pro 7i's pricing I do not hold my breath for how much a potential 9i will be costing down here.

    • Current Legion 9 have issues with the water cooling system so they will need a rethink, it performs worse than a Legion 7.

I literally just purchased a new Legion 7i because my 4 year old AMD Legion 7 just had it's keyboard and all LED die (power button still works as do track pad, but no LED on the powerbutton either). Seems to be a not so uncommon issue on reddit. The laptop still works fine besides keyboard and LED, I will try to get it repaired by a third party repairer but if they can't I will just use it as a secondary workstation.

    Laptop 5070ti only 12GB VRAM… yikes.

  • anyway to get the discount if your not a student

  • Just a heads up. Placed order for 5090 version with the free accessories.

    Order was almost immediately cancelled.

    Quoted:

"Unfortunately, we were unable to fulfill all or part of your order. The items listed below have been cancelled and you will not be charged for them."

    Not sure why.

    • Go on chat and ask. Mine was 5090 as well, the accessories are shipped separately, I missed out on the backpack by a day but complained in chat and they offered me a backpack up to 5% of the total order value.

Currently my 7i with 5090 is being shipped by DHL. Already received the monitor two days after the laptop order shipped locally from Sydney warehouse.

      • Hello, I purchased also and got the accessories seperately and delivered yesterday, weirdly all the money were returned to my account -$3 (for the accessories) and the laptop still shows waiting to be shipped and I spoke with the support and they said it’s not cancelled, can they charge my bank account again when (if) I receive it? Or did they just cancel my order ?

Did this happen to you when you received the accessories?

        • No, I was billed the full amount. My laptop with 5090 was delivered yesterday after waiting 10 days. Was manufactured on 21st April, which is lasered on the bottom of chassis. Took 10 days via DHL

          • @azukay: Weird, am I getting a free laptop? Lol they returned the money from that transaction and only $3 was cut and still not cancelled

            • @Sr1993e: They will probably bill you after it's shipped, there is a shortage of Legion 7i currently and I don't think they can promise a timeframe.

    16" 275hx
No one mentioned that or questioned what is 275hx?
Yup it is a typo. But I still want 275hx whatever that is :P

  • Why is it cheaper to upgrade a 5080 to 5090 than to buy 5090 directly?
Ordered one and got $625 in rewards as well fingers crossed

  • Anyone got the price of the student 5090 laptop by anychance?

    • +1

I bought for $4860 for my friend and pending $625 rewards ..

  • In for a 5090 with 64GB. Perfect timing as I was just browsing the retail site hovering to buy, but saved nearly $2500 instead!
    THANKS!

Anyone got their cashback tracked from ShopBack on EDU store ?

    • Interested in this too. I am looking at another laptop the IdeaPad Pro 5i (16", Gen 10) where the EDU discount may be less than the shopback rewards. So if they aren't compatible I should just use the rewards.

  • $1 monitor expired

  • Can someone confirm if this deal is still active ?

    • I had a look and the laptop price is now $4,499.10. The monitor, backpack, mouse are still $1 each, the the $400 points is still there if getting the monitor (total points is now $608). I note they halved the price upgrading to 64GB RAM (+$240 instead of $500). Total cart price is now $4,502.19

  • I got mine 5080 and i love this build, lots of cooling, I hope it lasts, three fans. though I was hitting 80c CPU on FFXIV low settings, so not sure whats happening with that, guess its normal.
they have pads on ram and all. the OLED screen is a large upgrade from last gen. really nice laptop but I have only had it for one day lol. and speakers way better, the price is worth it.

however I have not gotten the $400 rewards, does not show in account

    • The CPU runs hot in general with the U9 275HX, that being said the laptop is a powerhouse I can run most games on quiet mode and it still runs more smoothly than my previous gen 6 legion 7 with 3080. I was playing FFVII remake and steady 120 fps in quiet mode and the CPU and GPU barely hits 60 deg, and was only pulling 90w sitting at 40-50% utilisation and can barely hear the fans.

Same game with my gen 6 and the fans are screaming.
