    The Qantas Club is overrated!

  • Is it $855 per year??

    • No, I think its essentially the joining fee waived. Annual renewal is ~$470 or less if renewing multiple years.

More money in Joyce's overbulging pockets.

    • -3

      Negged by shareholders.

      • +1

So which airline executive's pockets arent bulging? John Borghetti from Virgin? And I guess the overseas shareholders of Virgin aren't Ozbargainers. (AirNZ, Etihad, Branson, and Singapore airlines)

So are your comments based on the same short sightedness of the union members, who say boycott Qantas for sending work overseas, while forgetting that all the alternatives like Virgin, Emirates, Etihad etc, do that already.

        • Bite much, lol. :)

  • is it actually worth it?

    • +2

Depends on how much you fly, It's certainly better than sitting in the normal waiting area's, food, drinks, internet, etc is all decent.

But again, unless you fly once or more a month and have to spend more than an hour or so in the airports, it's probably not worth it.

      • But if you are a frequent flyer, the status alone with QFF should get you into lounges for free… It's not worth $470 for a casual flyer to get access to a Qantas lounge, and yes, you pretty much have to fly Qantas to use this… (some JQ flights).

  • Just wonder if this also applies for corporate member ie pre-tax payment ?

    • Would be interesting to know. This seem to work out cheaper than joining through my corporate program.

So not worth it, they barely serve meals in the domestic airports. (They usually have 5 dishes and drinks) It's cheaper to get a black amex card and use the free guest passes.

    • how to get black amex card? haha

    • citibank signature/select is even cheaper :)

  • I seem to remember paying about $400 for a 2 year deal, which for me is worth it as I fly short distances often, but not enough to qualify for Gold membership. This seems expensive for one year.

  • +1

NoOOOOoooOoO…. i just paid 550 for mine through work.

  • It's definitely not worth it if you're Perth based - the Perth club is overcrowded, and full of loud, beer drinking FIFO workers in high vis and boots…

    • +1

      That's a bit narrow sighted.

You know that, from the moment they are on site, they are required to be wearing full gear? And of course they are usually couriered from their destination to site and/or attempting to fly without checked backage. So the high vis and boots are a given.

Everyone in the club is probably drinking - you're paying for the priviledge after all.

Overcrowded you may be correct, however I doubt it. I would think it's only between about 6 and 9am as that makes up the vast majority of the FIFO flight times.

Noisy could be true, this is where you're most likely right. But isn't it the same with any large group of people?

I'm not even a FIFO worker. Just pointing out a few things.

Is it worth it? it depends on how often you fly with Jetstar/Qantas.
    If you fly once a month that's 24 flights/year ~$20 per flight.
3 pre-flight drinks & it's paid for itself. Plus you can bring a guest (even if they're not flying).
Of course if you fly 2-3 times a year, then you're better off hitting the airport bar.

Those Jetstar Price beat deals, we often eat & drink more then our ticket costs.
If the flights are delayed then you get to sit in comfort.

    • I thought you had to purchase a guest pass (if you are buying the Individual Q club membership) in order to bring someone in.

      From site:
If you would like someone to accompany you to a Qantas Club lounge on a regular basis, you may purchase an Annual Guest Card.* Annual Guest Cards are available for purchase by contacting The Qantas Club Service Centre. Valid for 12 months, your Annual Guest Card allows one additional guest to enter the lounge if accompanied by you. Annual Guest Cards are governed by the terms and conditions of The Qantas Club Program.

      • +1

Nope, only if you want to invite a 3rd person.

        Invite a guest

You are welcome to invite family, friends or a colleague to join you in the lounge. If you're flying domestically on Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar within Australia, and on Jetstar within New Zealand you may bring one guest to join you in a Qantas Club lounge.

When visiting an international Qantas Club lounge, you are able to invite one guest each time you visit. Both you and your guest need to be travelling together further that day on the same flight.

        Annual Guest Card

If you'd like someone to accompany you in a Qantas Club lounge on a regular basis you can purchase an Annual Guest card.~

I just joined through my work for $546 last week. I rang qantas and they are refunding me the $76 difference. I'm in shock!! I am doing a Syd - Lon via Dubai flight ( expedia brazil) and joined for the extra baggage (extra $210 for 5 kg otherwise) and the grog at the lounges. A shower mid flight in Dubai is also awesome after 14 hours lol

wahOooo thanks you sasangeleus, you saved me 85 bucks, just called them. and they were able sort me a refund :D

For anyone who wants a tempory access to the Q club i would recommend buying a AA admirals club 30 day pass. I buy i on my annual trips to the usa and can be used to get into all qantas lounges for only $99. Worth it for me as I go for 4 weeks a year with qantas and use AA 5-6 times when there. Also handy for those just wanting to use the club for any international qantas and jetstar flight will get you in.

  • perhaps more versatile and cheaper is priority pass - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64196 (not expired)

    • someone's negging me for letting people know about a cheaper and possibly better airport lounge alternative?

      • Yeah bit poor without a comment. Just had a look though, and possibly not better, in Australia seems only Cairns (Reef Lounge) and Melbourne (United Lounge) are available. So see its usefulness being pretty limited locally. But if only looking for lounge access overseas could see it being useful.

Admirals Club mentioned above would probably be the better option if just looking for lounge access and local usage.

  • Qantas…? They are on the nose with always fiddling with FF membership rules - to their advantage! They have also recently put points capping on Westpac cards. Not so with the WP Singapore Airlines card. There is reciprocal NO loyalty on Qantas's part and I have switched everything to the Star network who are fantastic. (see Agean Airlines for awesome deals to get to Gold or Platinum status cheaply). When that Qantas penny-pinching CEO goes I may look at them again - maybe. Beware of Qantas who don't value their Frequent Flyers and are always looking to cut costs and good service at our expense.

    • I guess you may know more than others, but I always thought Westpac was the one who controlled the allocation of rewards on their affiliated card, so could it not be Westpac who have limited the rewards?

      Care to enlighten us?

And as a bargainer, I would appreciate a CEO being aware of costs, as this can lead to lower fares. If Qantas is profitable it can put pressure on fares by other carriers.

Then again when airlines like Aegean, are losing money, then they have to offer great deals. So that goes against my argument above.
