      for those without Amex, but do have 28degrees card, I have found it approx 3-5% cheaper to pay in MYR and use mastercard's conversion rate, rather than using AirAsia's conversion rate.

          I beg to differ. A 2 minute search got me there.
          From Gold Coast to KL, departure date 30 Oct 2013, 2 adults = AUD349.
          Few other dates with the same price too.

        mate, not a scam. as the op stated. the cheap fare is kl to oz. you then add a cheap fare from oz to kl..

        works, there are some dates in august which work out slightly more expensive than the op's post..

    Just booked two adult returns Gold Coast to Saigon via KL, only $1150 I'm rapt with the prices. Generally with low price carriers the flights don't connect and you're either slumming it an airport for 12 or more hours/take a stopover, but the worst wait on the return leg is 5 hours almost, but not quite too long.

      Yes, we did snatch rock-bottom prices for PER-KUL return on Dec 24/Jan 10 in one of their huge sales last year. Not sure if any for this year have come up yet.

          Checking back, we booked on 16 February 2012 for the Dec/Jan return flights. Using the exchange rate at the time, it was approximately $380 AUD return per person, including meals, luggage and entertainment each (so not rock bottom as I previously thought, but still very good for peak season travel).

          Obviously, it might not help with this year's bookings, but just keep an eye out for their mega sales (the ones that start at midnight and make you wait for 2 hrs in a queue before you get 600 seconds to book your flights).

    Booked both ways, sydney to Medan (Sumatra, Indonesia)for 2 people including meals and 20kg luggage for 1 person (the other person will be carry on only) for just shy of $1000. Great deal. We're gonna go jungle trekking to see wild orang utans and such. Can't wait!

    I found that the really sharp pricing was limited to around july, august and early september. There was almost no cheapo fares for late september onwards.

    Bare in mind those sale prices don't include baggage costs and food.

    Just booked MEL to KL and back again in October.

    $750AU return including baggage and food.

    So $187.50 one way per person. Good stuff!
