    $5.95 postage.

  • Thanks OP, was looking for one of these. They have just released the 4G USB + WiFi device but this will do great in the meantime.

    • any idea when the 4g version will be available?

      • No, went into a Telstra store yesterday and they didn't have it. The staff there didn't even know one existed. Go to a Telstra store when you want product knowledge and advice - not.

  • I actually purchased this because my ADSL is down (line fault), and looking at approximately a 2 week outage.

I pay $90 a month for internet from iinet, and they have promised to give me a pro rata credit for downtime (ie $45 if it lasts 2 weeks), meaning this purchase had no cost to me. 2GB is a bit different to my 400GB iinet plan of course, but at least I'll have access.

    • Same sort of issue with Telstra. They sent me a new modem but it won't register. In the meantime, I'm still using my old modem fine but they will give a pro-rata credit until the problem is resolved.

    • couldnt you have used your mobile phone data?

      • I certainly could have, but i'm almost out of phone data for the month already and it wasn't economical to pay for a plan upgrade for the remaining days in the month.

Can this be used with kogan sim since they are still on telstra network or I will still have to get it unlocked first?

    • the cnet review suggests that you can't use a Kogan sim. But who knows if they have even tried.

  • Anyone knows how to unlock it please?

    • This forum thread suggests that they can

      Don't need DC Unlocker!

      • I went to that tool and entered in my IMEI and it indeed gave me the unlock codes.

To use them you need a non-telstra sim, which I don't have so was unable to test any further.

        • Anyone know how to access the vodafone mobile broadband dashboard (modem ZTE K3571-Z usb stick)

This link gives me a two 12 digit unlock codes - when I plug in the USB modem, it asks for a 16 digit unlock code.

        • +1

Same here, Can anyone help on how to get a 16 Digit code?

        • sounds like the 7 euro dc-unlocker may be your best option.

        • I found the same thing rye, unfortunately it was too good to be true.

          Will try DC Unlocker tomorrow.

Unlocked with Dccrap for free this morning

You need prepare both Official DC-unlocker and Dccrap. The second one can be found in my screenshot
In the following steps. DC-unlocker refers to the official, while dccrap refers to the cracked

          1. Download and install officially DC-unlocker
            https://www.dc-unlocker.com/uploud/uploud/uploads/dc-unlocke…
          2. Run DC-unlocker (Right click, run as admin, choose zte modem and auto-detect) and turn the modem into diag mode
          3. Download and install http://www.zte.com.au/downloads/software/MF626i_PC_Install.e…
(This step is to install old drivers that can work with dccrap)
          4. Insert a sim from other providers, open dccrap (can be found in my screenshot blow. Right click, run as admin, choose zte modem and auto-detect), and click unlock.
          5. Run official DC-unlocker (Right click, run as admin) to turn off the diag mode. Done

          My screenshot is here
          https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=EA7333B406BF8C3C!927&a…

          Explanation
          1. Dccrap is an old version that cannot detect the MF70 if it's in Wifi mode. You need latest DC-unlocker to temporarily turn the MF70 into modem/diag mode so that it can be detected by dccrap.
          2. The USB driver comes with MF70 auto install seems has trouble dectecting with dccrap. That's why I installed MF626i driver. It is also a ZTE modem. The driver works well with dccrap.
          3. Don't forgot to turn back to wifi mode after unlock

        • +1

Will try tonight after get home, hope it's still valid at that time. Not worth to spend 7 euro on a $10 device.

Is this official DC-unlocker or a cracked version?

        • That URL (at the time I write this) is the same as the client downloaded via DC homepage, but the screenshot shows a gazillion credits. Fishy.

I would not go installing from a link like that except in a disposable VM.

        • You need prepare both Official DC-unlocker and Dccrap. The second one can be found in my screenshot
(it's dccrap.7z. Just download and extract to your desktop)

          Or here
          http://dl23.qiannao.com/downfile/v5blueskyer/8433e9cd?md5=4b…

In the following steps. DC-unlocker refers to the official, while dccrap refers to the cracked

        • Thanks for the clarification. I took the latter as a disparaging nickname for the former.

        • Can be a $2.5 device.
          500 flybuy points = $2.5
          Do a survey http://www.tellcoles.com.au
          You'll get 1000 points = $5

        • You need a $30+ receipt to get this dongle, so you will have a receipt for tellcoles anyway that month. Yes, bonus 500 pts do worth $2.5.

        • I am stuck at the very first step, the official dc-unlocker won't recognize the modem, therefore I can't open the diagnose mode. The driver was installed and telstra web app shows device connected, but couldn't find a COM port for the modem. All my COM 6 ~23 are BT com ports. Installed the old driver won't help.

The dongle is MF70A bought from coles, I reckon there's nothing different?

        • thanks alot bennyzhou i unlocked it free finally , im using a $2 amaysim now. had to install dc unlocker twice etc. note it took a while to do as old drivers wouldn't load on win 8 so I had to use an old pc with win xp 32bit OS to install all the software to unlock it. note you must follow steps carefully and they are bit hard to follow.

        • +1

Mily it works I had to use a 32bit OS as the old drivers got stuck during installing. Also you need to log on to your coles MF70a and turn wifi off and choose usb mode via /m.home don't forget to turn it back on once you unlock it. took me a while to figure it out I even had to reset modem with a pen twice.

        • I didn't realise the WIFI/USB stuff, this might be the catch as I tried it on both WinXP and Win7x64. Will do it again tonight and see if I can get it done.

        • Successfully unlocked, appreciate.

        • Right click, run as admin, choose zte modem and "auto-detect"

Because it's in wifi mode, no port can be available but you can only choose "auto-detect".

Switching to diag mode (actually modem mode) will enable ports.

With those ports available, you can unlock it using old dccrap.

After unlocking, the modem is in modem mode. If you want the wifi function, the diag mode must be disabled via latest DC-locker.

If you have trouble with the diag mode driver, install the MF626i win7 software just after you enable the diag mode. The driver supports x64 win. I'm using Win8 x64 and all good.

        • +1

          Hey bennyzhou,
Thanks for those instructions. Worked well although I had to use the old drivers first, to get the device recognized at all in DC-Unlocker and I had to specify the COM ports shown in DC-Unlocker, in DCCrap. Got it working no worries though, so thanks.
Do you know of any "proper" drivers for the MF70? I couldn't find any and the DCCrap… so its a cracked early version of DC Unlocker, right? Did the guy make any later versions? Its pretty handy but obviously quite out of date.

        • hi, benny,

I am residing in Malaysia at the moment and having problem of downloading MF626i from thsi website http://www.zte.com.au/downloads/software/MF626i_PC_Install.e… as it is only for AUD/NZ. will appreciate if you can send rar or zzip file of this driver to me at [email protected].
Your help would be much appreciated.

        • Won't be too hard to find a free proxy for that.

        • Me too. Tried many times just didn't work.

        • Win 7 64bit, didn't work

        • How to do it? Please enlighten me about free proxy!

        • Google: "https proxy australia", you will find plenty of them. However be careful on using them, for downloading a file there shouldn't be a problem, and https is generally safe. Turn it off after downloading, don't use it for you online banking etc unless you fully trust the company/person behind it.

        • Thanks. manage to download and install Mf626i. turn to modem mode only but dc unloack and dccrap still cannot detect mf 70a. Please advise.

        • i had followed all steps but dc unlock or dccrap still cant detect my mf 70a. please help?

    • Two minutes on google….
      https://www.dc-unlocker.com/

      • FYI cost 7euro to unlock but it works. Just checked

    • Bear in mind that even if you do unlock it, you may only have good performance on Telstra and their resellers. Optus and Vodafone use UMTS 900 MHz which this device doesn't have.

      • The box says it supports Quad Band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
You sure it wont work with Optus/Vodafone?

      • +1

        FYI:

        Bought today,
        Unlocked using dc-unlocker.
Used my LiveConnected SIM card from my phone.
Setup a new APN profile for YesOptus

Service Provider : YES OPTUS Roam : OFF
        Network Type : HSPA+ LAC Code : 821E
        RSSI : -90dBm RSCP : -96dBm

Worked like a dream and very quick.

Would work with Vodafone and resellers such as (sigh) Pennytel.

This could be really handy to use with the new ALDI 365 day expiry SIM cards - I rarely need wireless data so paying $20-$30/month to keep an unused service active is silly, but a $15 360 day expiry SIM card would be perfect for infrequent use.

    • Aldi Data is 5c / MB

  • This is the Elite modem, a good one at 21 mbps speed rated.

    • +3

Vote for the deal then please :-)

  • How interesting I just got given one of these for free at Uni today. They were giving them away with 1GB data, 14 day expiry for free :)

    • +1

Was it the 3g or the 3g+wifi? (i suspect the former)

Either way you should be posting a new bargain then!

      • Oh it didn't have wifi. I thought about posting it but they barely had any left even when I made it. Maybe they are or are going to do this at other universities this week?

  • it says you need an ac adaptor for the hotspot. pity it doesn't come with a battery

    no 3g 900mhz either

    • +2

It will work as a hot spot if plugged into a USB port or connected to the adaptor. An adaptor comes inside the box.

      • +1

+1, an adapter is supplied in the box.

  • Nice also has wifi, you can just take it outside and use it like the elite wifi modem, only diffebce is this is a lot smaller. Just plug into a portable battery which has a USB connection and your good to go.

  • Expires 30 days from now, or when you register?

    • interested in the same question.

      • Once you register.

Also all telstra sites and associated sites are accessible without registration. E. G big pond and afl.com.au etc

  • What does unlocking the modem dongle enable one to do? I don't get it.

    • I have the same question, glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it…

      • +3

Unlocking allows you to use the device with another provider, just like unlocking a mobile phone.

      • +1

I wouldn mind knowing this also, i just purchased one, but hope unlocking it allows me to put in a post paid sim at some point in future?

        • yes :)

        • A fee may be payable

  • Just picked up 2 from King Street store melb Cbd. Had 3 left at 24 each and had the 4g version for $150.

    • That's expensive. Telstra RRP for the new 4G hybrid device is $119

  • Great deal, just bougth one
FYI if you want to do pickup and paypal, dont check out with paypal straight away. Do it on the 3rd step. Otherwise you keep getting caught in a loop where it thinks it still has to deliver it but won't allow it.

  • anyone know if you can use this with a nexus 7 ? I guess you could always use the wifi on the modem to connect but I assume this would draw more battery?

  • God, I wish someone would post a deal for 4g, but this is an good deal for 3g

  • Ordered one for in store delivery thanks

  • Doesn't Australia post have the same deal

  • Oh I didn't notice it comes with the WIFI, now a + vote from me.

    • as per deal title :)

    • Gee that was short! Not a catalogue one week special?

      • Website states it's available for back order!

        • I've placed an order online for back order. Will see how long it takes.

    • Oh! It's dropped back down to the special price again.

When I checked the item this morning on the website, the price had definitely reverted to $59.

Stock still available at some stores.

  • I just realised, this should work well with the portable USB battery I bought the other day from Banggood.com!

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104630

  • just bought one today - works well with my monthly data from new Telstra bundles

  • better offer at Coles from Wed.
$10, but only 1GB and no AC adapter.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105529

    • Yes I am glad I didn't open the box, and returned the dongle to OW today after I grabbed another in Coles for $9.99.
I have plenty of AC adapters from various smart phones, so not a big difference.

  • The deal has expired. OW price is showing up at $59.

  • Could saomeone help me ?
What will be APN profile for Red Bull Mobile ?
If not, maybe Vodafone settings will work ?

  • Cross posted from my whirlpool post

Telstra have modified the stock ZTE70 so that only 5 clients can connect at a time.

The unit is, according to the ZTE specs, capable of connecting up to 10 clients at a time.

I discovered that it is possible to easily hack the device and reset this value back up to 10 :-)

Go to the device config page (http://m.home/index.asp), login (default password is "password"), go to the settings -> Wi-Fi Settings -> Basic page.

You can then use firebug/chromebug to modify the value of any of the drop down list elements for that setting.

e.g. change the last value in the dropdown to <option value="10">10</option>

Submit the form, and the value is changed and the unit will allow you to connect more devices.

You can verify this in the following file: http://192.168.0.1/userseting_nvconfig.txt . (thanks to http://blog.kernelpicnic.net/2013/03/16/messing-with-telstra…)

You will now be able to see the following line, which previously had a value of 5:

    MAX_Access_num=10

Apologies if this post requires firebug/chromebug skills that you don't have, if anyone can think of a more user-friendly way then feel free to improve on my post :-)

    • Thanks muzzamo, useful although I have no idea about firebug/chromebug so far.
Any thought re my post to bennyzhou about drivers and DCCrap above?

    • thanks but couldnt get Firebug Lite for Google Chrome to run becuase of restrictions. do i need to install the full ver? might try fire fox instead later.

      • Chrome comes with chromebug installed. Just press F12 :-)
