  • Have to resist resistttt!!!!…….

  • +1

    It consumes 20W.
I wouldn't get my hopes up with how well this sounds turned up in movies.

    • For $99 you expect a lot? It's not some top of the range system…

  • +1

gotta be better than the crappy sound that comes from my Kogan in the bedroom.

    • Yep, the Kogan's are cheap, but the sound is awful.

      • Changhong cheapie I bought has surprisingly decent sound for a tv

  • How to connect it to TV? Only coaxial out from TV into it?

    "AUX IN x 1, Digital coaxial in x 1, Digital optical in x 1, Subwoofer out x 1"

Wondering is it OK for music as a Karaoke speaker?

    • +2

Typically your Lcd or plasma TV will have Digital Optical or Coaxial Out
So you feed all your HDMI or Digital inputs into the TV
and then feed the Output to the Soundbar (usually to your receiver)

I believe this unit does NOT support Dolby digital In so the output of the TV will need to be set to PCM

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCsY_BcOjgc

      • So if I have HTPC I will have to output my PC sound to my TV and TV back to it.

        • if you have only 1 source EG HTPC then no, Id plug straight into the Soundbar,
but if you have multiple inputs like Xbox or Wii or PS3, Dvd player, set top , tv tuner then Id feed it through the TV if you can

        • I already have the $24 Creative T6160 connected to the PC I think I will skip it.

        • for sure, Stick with what you got

      • The specs say it does do dolby digital.

rated at 30W sub, plus 2 x 15W. But it says that @30% THD. Really 30% distortion?! Seems a lot.
A bity of a joke. The standard is to quote power at 1% distortion, and even the hifi nuts say its too much.

Still better than the built-in speakers.

        • standard in hifi is 0.1%, some even list at 0.01% THD. 60W is not a lot yet the have to blow up the THD that much to quote that wattage, not very confident in this speaker or Philips as a brand for hifi.

  • According to a customer review, it was $129 earlier this year.

  • Compare to This one (http://dicksmith.com.au/product/C7700/philips-soundbar-speak…)

    Which one is better?

I'm already ordered $119 one, should I cancel the order?

    $99 have 2 X 15W Speaker
    $119 have 2 X 20W Speaker

Is that make a lot differents?

    Thankx

    • +1

      Yes, cancel it!
The one you linked has no woofer, so poor bass. And less overall power.
This $99 model is much better.

  • Typically how long does delivery take?

  • So two-minded about this one.

So I'll put it to the OB jury.

I current have a Pioneer VSX522 amp that came with 5 small speakers and sub (dick smith deal last year). Being a complete novice I doubt I have set it up properly as I dont know what 95% of the setting and adjustments mean. Currently have a really annoying issue where switching to HD channels on foxtel produces a large buzzing noise for 5ish seconds)

I have a young toddler so I'd prefer to not have the rear speakers where they currently are (next to the lounge)

I was thinking the soundbar would look neat (I'd mount it under the tv) and serve it's purpose (especially as you can tell, im not an audiophile)

    What do you guys think?

What sort of price would I get if I put the VSX522 amp and speakers on ebay? All I can see is listings for new stock

    • is it hooked up by hdmi optical coax or av leads?

      • its currently hooked up via hdmi

      • I won't keep the Pioneer and buy a good surround speakers like the Amazon Jamo on special from last year.

        • Thanks for the advice, only thing is Im not sure I'd be able to adjust the settings to utilise its full potential.

The thought of mounting this on the wall underneath the tv, and it just working is quite tempting to me.

Plus the buzzing issue is really annoying the hell out of me (need to turn down volume low as soon as I change to HD channel to not hear the buzzing noise then after few seconds I can put it back up to normal).

        • Sorry I type it wrong, I said I would keep the Pioneer instead of I won't.

The Pioneer is a lot better with a good pair of speaker.

About the buzzing sound, how you connected it to the receiver?

HDMI from the Foxtel to the Receiver and HDMI receiver to TV?

    • +1

I suggest you change the audio out setting of Foxtel from DTS/Dolby to PCM, then it should solve the problem.

      • Mate your a gem. That did the trick

  • Does the bar have to have a surface to rest on ? Can anybody who has one advise if there is a convenient way of attaching it to the bottom of a wall mounted TV and is that contemplated in the instruction manual? (Obviously the sub-woofer will need to go on the floor).

  • Looks like amazon has quite a few reviews on it http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B007B5WHTE

I think I'll pull the trigger tomorrow (does dse have paywave)

Also newbie question but just in case, it'll work fine with foxtel hd? and roku?

    • it just like every other normal 2.1 speakers, when you hookup the RCA(Red/White) cable, nothing can go wrong.

  • ok nvm found the answer

Sold out online. You'll have to ring around the stores tomorrow if keen as cant check store stock online with this one.

    • No its not sold out online. Just bought one online!

      • Yup they updated the stock levels. Between around 10-12 last night when I checked it was showing as sold out.

  • Update: George st Sydney has 3 boxes out the front. There's one on display near the TVs and plugged into a PowerPoint - though the PowerPoint is a dud so I couldn't test what it sounds like.

    • Cheers. I went there this morning but decided to wait and get it closer to home tonight (dont want to lug it around on ferry)

      • Just picked one up at rhodes store. The guy working there said none had been sold today. My tv is wallmounted so wont get around to installing soundbar till weekend.
