Microsoft Surface RT w/ Type or Touch Cover for $579

50

Seems like a pretty good deal to me, probably been price reduced cause the Surface Pro has been released.

I'm still reading reviews and pondering on whether I should pull the trigger, but I'm very tempted at the moment, if you're interested in the Surface RT without the cover, JB or Harvey Norman have it for $458 or so, but you can probably bargain that down a bit.

Have a good day!

Sure it might be a good price for the tablet, but really it is a tegra 3 running a very limited OS. I can't justify spending this sort of cash when you can get a ATOM version for less (sure no keyboard cover thingy).

    • Also has Office which is another $100ish+

      • Not really. You can get free office suites which are quite enough for this type of netbook - plus it's a non-commercial licence only.

Since MS undoubtedly have a new, catchup, version of their surface line in the wings (since this one didn't sell) I wouldn't touch it until it was less than $299, and even then it's not a great deal.

As others have said, a cheap Haswell or Silvermont device is going to be a better bet for the windows bashing.

Anyone considering this, DON'T GET THE TOUCH KEYBOARD. Get the type keyboard. If you do ANY type of touch typing then the touch keyboard is useless for typing at any decent speed….or even at non decent speeds its still really hard.

But with the type cover, it's similar enough to a normal keyboard that there's no real issue. Also people seem to like the mouse pad on the type cover better.

  • Also the title is incorrect. The Surface RT with a Type cover is $598.99.

  • And the new bargain is???
Seems this post is more after opinions on the RT as the $100 price drop on the RT has already been posted twice before

  • I have a touch cover, but would like to get a type cover for uni. $150 is a little steep though.
