Officeworks Refund Policy for Tablets

Hey guys,

I bought an Acer Iconia W510 from Officeworks earlier today and even though there aren't any problems with it, it's extremely laggy and let's just say that even though it's okay, it's not really fit for what I would like to use it for, hence, I wish to return it.

If I can't manage to get a refund, I'll probably just try and sell it on Gumtree or Ebay for a small loss, that's okay with me because it really is my fault that I didn't research the Atom processor more carefully.

However, a refund would be nice and I am a regular Officeworks customer, getting things bound and stuff pretty much every few days.

Wondering if anyone has experience with regards to Officeworks' refund policy.

Cheers!

  • You ring up, you return it, or you take it back into the store and return it. They have a very liberal refunds policy without time limits. Just make sure all the bits and pieces are with it.

  • well there's no reason you can't. they keep touting their return policy as the differentiating factor when i try to price match anything. they supposedly offer unconditional refunds or a purchase any time. i even asked if i can get a full refund 3 years after date of purchase as an example and they said yes.

    • Yes, I have always been tempted to get an iPad top of the line and then return it when the new one comes out, wash, rinse and repeat.

Damn morals stop me! Out damn spot.

    • they supposedly offer unconditional refunds or a purchase any time

You got a link to support that statement?

i even asked if i can get a full refund 3 years after date of purchase as an example and they said yes.

Looks like they just wanted to sell you something.

      • that's what they told me over the phone when i try to price match something and they use different return policy as grounds for refusal.

no clear terms and conditions anywhere. OW = dodgy.

  • Well… i bought a Nexus 7 tablet from them, and I broke it ( well i was playing music from the speakers, and it froze, the speaker just froze and cracked…) so technically well the tablet broke.
    :p

    returned all simple.

I suggest just show it to them and explain why…
for me, i would return that, its laggy…

  • Dear xxxxx,

    Thank you for your email.

Please note that there is no time limit set for returning items, however bear in mind the general guidelines listed in the return policy:

On your website, with regard to returns policy, it does not state a time limit for returns for change of mind. I would be grateful if you would clarify for me please.

    Kind regards,

  • Australian law….

The Australian Consumer Law provides basic rights for consumers to return goods that they have bought, including if they are faulty, don’t match samples, or doesn’t perform as expected. In addition, retailers often have their own policies on the return of products for reasons not covered by the law, such as when a consumer changes their mind.

From your explanation, the item does not perform as expected, so you should be able to return it.

  • +1

    Hey guys!

All good, I managed to head back to Officeworks and return it, they had to get the manager out to ask if it was okay, he said that since I bought it today, there's no problems. However, I'm not too sure with in regards to what it would be like if it was longer.

Though I can see an opportunity for abuse, e.g. buying a tablet, using for one month, returning and buying a new one and repeating every month. But that's interesting to think about it that way though, guess there's no loss if someone does want to try that out.

    Cheers!

  • Hi man, just want say, I have the exactly situation with you. I also bought the Iconia W510 few days ago, also from Officeworks, also dont like its CPU, also want to return it.

  • You should take a look at the show the checkout (google it). Their site has on front page under the Featured section a video call returns and exchanges. Generally it doesn't matter what a retailers policies are, they say Australian consumer protection laws are what they and you need to comply with.
