Asus GTX 670 DC2 OC 2GB with Diablo 3 Mousepad $299 + Post ComputerAlliance

620

Good evening all.

I just decided to looked up the price of GTX 670 on StaticICE and found this gem.

Overclocked DirectCU II version, which is really quiet according to the SPCR review. Not the TOP version.

Comes with a free Diablo 3 mousepad and Assassin's Creed 3 key (will be UPlay DRM I expect). Limit 2 per customer. MOD: Please see this comment from jacobah5 regarding Assassin's Creed 3 key, where the promotion has withdrawn.

Model number points to this card: https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX670DC2OG2GD5/

I ordered 2 and shipping to Syndey is $17. Pick up is also available.

UPDATE: I've emailed CA regarding AC3 and Metro.

Me: I just noticed the product page has been changed and the bonus Assassin's Creed III key has been removed. Can you please confirm if they are included with my order?
CA: Sorry but we have sold all out of the Assassin’s Creed Keys and this is why it was removed, your order has missed out on that promotion.
Me: Do the cards come with keys for Metro Last Light from the Nvidia promo?
CA: That promotion from what I’ve been told is on the Gigabyte video cards, not the Asus ones.

And according to this… http://thegamerspad.net/metro-last-light-geforce-bundle-comi…

Previously announced for other countries, the NVIDIA GeForce Metro Last Light Bundle will be coming to Australia exclusively bundled with Gigabyte GeForce Graphics Cards.

  • Direct Cu 2 is nice - I have the 4gb version - runs great

  • Epic deal! Rocking gtx 670s in SLI since they released and they are still going strong. One card is fine to max pretty much any game upto 1920x1080.

  • Looks like they have the asus 4GB gtx 680 on special too

    http://www.computeralliance.com.au/nvidia-gtx680-4gb-asus-pc…

    • +1

While technically on sale and still a really nice card, it would be hard for most to justify spending $200 more on the 680 unless you need the 4GB for a triple monitor set up (which I do, but I'm waiting for a special on a 4GB 670, anyone?)

      • +1

Agree, $200 not worth it for 680, you can get 770 for around the same price.

Only card to ever get a 10/10 from this site. Also one of the quietest high end cards.

    • If I wasn't getting the Sapphire 7870 XT Boost today I might've got this, that 10/10 from TechPowerUp is really convincing.

That and I also like AMD cards better for some reason.

      • +3

I bought this ASUS 670 soon after launch for just over 500 bucks. It's a fantastic card that plays every game I have beautifully on my 2560x1440 monitor. Even under full load I can't hear it over my case fans that are running at less than half their stock speeds.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the 7870 is in a class below the GTX670 and AMD 7970.

Therefore, Plasma, I would highly recommend going for one of these baby's as 299 is an absolute bargain.

        Jono

        • Oh well, maybe in the next 3-6 years when I decide it's time to upgrade again. I suppose the pro is that I saved $50 and I might be able to save another $50 depending how much I sell the 2 games that came with it for.

    • Different card, the one in the review is the TOP edition, this is the OC edition, still great but there's no review for the OC edition from techpowerup. TOP edition apparently received some bad feedback about being unstable from newegg, etc. The OC edition apparently the successor of the TOP after the TOP has been discontinued. They also include a diablo 3 mousepad as part of the bundle.

      • Ahh, thanks for that explanation. I remember considering the TOP when it came out, but was confused when like two months later there was nobody stocking it. I guess that makes sense, it was clocked a good 100Mhz higher than all the other non-reference 670's wasn't it?

Unrelated but, can anyone confirm this card is 2 slot and not 2.5 or 3 or something?

        • +1

The card has 2 slots confirmed, and comes with backplate and also the fan cowl is made of metal. The reason why they gave 10/10 because it beats the hell out the 680.

  • +1

Almost hit the buy button on this one, seems like a good card and nice deal. Decided at the last moment I don't reaaallly need a new card atm but +1 anyway. FWIW postage was $22 for 1 card to south coast nsw.

  • +1

looks good deal…can keep the Diablo3 but :P

    • +4

It's a mousepad not the game.

      • +1

It took an ozbargain eye to see it as a game

      • +1

And I'm pretty sure it's a Steelseries Qck with the diablo stuff printed on. If that's the case then I've got the same pad without branding, and actually really like it. Good quality stuff.

It might not be though, so take this with a grain of salt :P

        • +2

Yeah I've got one of the Diablo ones, bought when I played it haha.
Its a great mat, really nice and big.

  • +2

bought a 7950 on saturday.. so much regret.

    • +3

Just overclock the CRAP out of it. I bought a Boost 7950 a month ago and overclocked the core from stock 925MHz to 1275MHz, %35 increase (on watercooling admittedly) which is resulting in benchmarks close to or exceeding GTX680 speeds.

This is a great deal, but I've got no regret, the 7950 is still a great card. ATI have OC headroom that Nvidia just doesn't have. Do some googling/reading on that and don't feel too bad :)

      • +1

are you using just catalyst control? I left it to do auto amd overdrive. Started hitman absoloution and the main screen just corrupted. Could hear audio but screen was a mess of green and white stripes. Had to restart and disable auto overdrive to get around it.

        • +1

MSI Afterburner is the best program, also use it to monitor Temperature/clockspeed/gpu usage (in that order). And use Furmark for a basic stress test.
          I read this thread mostly:
          http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/radeon_hd_7950_overcloc…
It's generally a good idea to steer clear of any "automatic" overclocking functions for video cards or your cpu. If you have a good read of that article and understand what you're doing it's a pretty safe procedure and should give your card a healthy performance boost :)

      • +2

The 7950 performs better at higher resolutions anyway so it is slightly a better card. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6e0UtPZY0

    • Same situation here.

On AMD overdrive, I have modestly set it to 1100 MHz GPU Clock and 1500 MHz Memory clock. I probably could make it go higher through other tools, but that was a nice bump from 925 MHz (800 MHz reference) and 1250 MHz.

I do believe this is a better deal, however we didn't lose out too badly… I think.

Plus we have 3 GB of RAM, which is all the rage.

      -Edit-

Oh, Power control is set to +20%. Read on a forum it is necessary to deal with the extra power draw.

      -Edit 2-

Oh, the PowerColor is quiet, when on full load it is once of the quietest cards out there. Which I noticed before I saw the review, it is a great improvement. My previous card was a 6950 and it was loud when on load, this is much quieter even overclocked.
      http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_7950_PCS_Pl…

Also, since I'm so hurt about the 670… I'm going to OVERVOLT!!! Will report back or not depending on success/failure.

      • +1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Z6e0UtPZY0 you should be able to hit 1150 GPU Clock. Your memory clock is fine.. maybe can hit 1600 but i wouldn't push it.

        • Using CCC, now it is supposed to be at 1100/1575, but I'm not sure I trust it as Unigine Heaven benchmark score does not improve over the stock of 925/1250 thought temperature does increase. I wonder if there is a system that throttles the speed when temperature increases?

Another thing I find strange is that the 7950 I bought has the same number of Texture Units and ROP units, it has 50% more RAM, the GPU runs at a faster speed and the RAM runs faster too after overclocking. Yet the 670 is supposed to be a better card right? Does the CUDA processors help with gaming or am I missing something obvious?

          -Edit-

I was looking at old benchmarks, it appears with newer driver updates and overclocking the 7950 is faster than the 670.

    • +1

I have a 7950 and while I like the speed, and the price I paid at the time, I detest those active displayport adapters. They soon add up on the price and so far I have had to get it replaced twice in 3 months. Using a startech one so not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either. If it dies a 3rd time then the 7950 is going on ebay and I will move back to where these adapters are not needed!

  • +1

Just bought it, hope it fits in a BitFenix Prodigy case.

    • +1

I've seen builds with titans in that case, so I'm pretty sure you'll be fine there.

      • There is enough space but the CPU and my current graphics are only 1-2cm from touching each other. If this is the back of the 670 card them I think I'm good http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GTX_670_Dire…

Might have to remove the dvd drive to put some fans on top also.

        • Yeah I was thinking that. If I'm remembering correctly those fans would be up against the side of your case, and you'd want better airflow than that. EDIT: for a non-blower type cooler like this I mean.

  • Tossing up between this or a 7970 for another $100

  • http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105898 I bought this computer the other day and am on the hunt for a graphics card does anyone know if this will fit/is it compatible with the parts. Thanks

    • wanted to get this too. how did it go so far with this machine? can get so feedback?

    • It will do just fine, the PC doesn't come with dedicated gfx, only onboard intel, so 670 is your answer.

      • One problem I have with new GPUs on a older setup is the power consumption, how do you add up the W to say that it fits a 500W or 650W and the appropriate motherboard (current core 2 dual, yeah 5 year old machine needs an upgrade).

        • +2

Find out the TDP of your CPU and GPU, add them together + 30W for mobo, times 1.2 for VRM efficiency losses, and add 20W for drives, fans, etc.

It's a rough estimate of how much your system draws assuming you aren't running a shitload of drives or other random stuff.

          Alternatively… http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

    • Card 10.7" long, case supports 12.4". Check.
GTX670 TDP 170W, current system draw ~100W, PSU 500W and has 2x PCI-E connectors. Check.

      Will be just fine.

Friend was also tossing up between this and the hd 7970 (3gb), after many reviews and benchmark, the hd comes out on top but in saying that, this price is very good, it use to be same price as the 7970 ($380-$399)

Even with DC2 and clocked which is ready on the 7970 too…
    WDYT: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7970-vs-GeForce-GTX-670

    • Yeah… I think I will hold out and go for the 7970. This is just such a good deal!

        http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130201200806AA…

not a bad review RE the drivers too.

I would get the AMDs over Nvidia - in actual fact, the GTX670 price should be at this standard over the value/performance. But still, good price vs RRP

        • Good read. I agree the regular priced 670's are looking expensive in the current market.

    • 7970 is still 100+ more isn't it?

that said, on a 1920x1080, would it make any difference between 670 and 7970 ?

this looks like a good deal.

  • Anyone from melb wants to share shipping? Hard to justify paying $18 on postage :(

    • +7

IMHO you probably wouldn't want to risk cheap shipping with an item like this.
For 18 bux they'd probably bubble wrap the crap out of it to make sure it arrives without any rattling bits. If it helps, think of popping bubble wrap as a free game that is included with every order.

  • I too have this card and swear by it, never had a hiccup running highest settings on 2560 monitor

  • Anyone paid by card and still haven't been charged yet?

    • The email I received said:

"You can expect a response within 3 business hours of your order, however during busy times a response may take up to 24 hours."

    • Apparently my card failed "security" checks and I had to B-Pay.

      • Strange, just checked email and got that too. Grrr.

      • I got a confirmation email like an hour I posted this message

  • So I just realised, it doesn't actually say anywhere on the link that you get Assassin's Creed with the card. Can someone confirm that you do indeed get it?

  • +6

** beware ** Computer alliance are not honouring the ac3 game code. I ordered I the morning and went to pick up from the shop. No code so I queried the staff and they pointed to the website where the ac3 bonus offer was withdrawn. I then showed the manager a screen shot that included the ac3 game and that it was the product that I ordered. He then proceeded to tell me that that was old promoton and now suddenly they had no codes and all people that had ordered wont get a code. He would not budge and given i had driven there I bought the card. Poor effort that the shop won't Honor the order as originally processed. That being said gtx 670 is a good card. Looks like my future business will be directed to msy and umart. Op may want to amend the free ac3 game.

    • Damn, that's a pity. Thanks for letting us know. It's still a good deal I'd say, but sucks if you bought it on the understanding that you'd get a free game out of it.

    • the latest promo now comes with metro last light game:

      http://www.geforce.com/landing-page/free-metro

Australia is listed in the country selection but can't find how to redeem it.

Clicking "Australia" brings you to the above site, where you need to enter your details plus a coupon code. I'm guessing this means you need to get a coupon upon purchasing the card, and if CA doesn't give you one with this sale then you don't get any free game.

  • Hey Guys,
Wondering if my comp would be able to support this with my current setup and is it worth upgrading or should I invest in a new computer instead?
    Running:
    i7-950
    ASUS P6T Deluxe V2
    6gb RAM
650W Extreme Power Plus Coolermaster PSU
ASUS GTS250 1GB(Would replace it with this card)
    2x DVD Burners
    3x HDD Drives
    TV Tuner Card
    2 x Monitors
    CoolerMaster HAF922 Case

    Thanks!

    • keep cpu and motherboard upgrade graphics card

  • Just got mine and no code for AC3 or Metro Last Light. Can I email Nvidia and give the serial no and get the game or do I need the code?

  • Ok before I ask this question the correct answer is "No Mako, save your money" but here goes.

Currently have two 5770's in SLI and thinking of getting this for metro last light and CoH2 improvements.

    Existing set up
    i5 750
    12gb ram

    • Whether it's worth an upgrade depends on what you play. 5770 CF is still very good for games that don't chew up VRAM. GTX670 is about 50% faster when you aren't VRAM limited.

1GB VRAM just isn't enough for games these days. I don't know about Last Light but Metro 2033 hit 1GB at medium settings no-AA and I got huge framerate drops with GTX460 SLI.

Ordered 2x GTX670's on the 11 Jun 13 @ 9:30am and paid as soon as i was sent the BPay details. Payment cleared on the 12 Jun 13 and item dispatched that same afternoon. Package tracking indicates arrival in Sydney sometime today, 13 Jun 13.
I checked my online invoice from Computer Alliance and i have received 2x Assassin's Creed online keys that i can redeem.

Response to my questions, service reaction times and dispatch all good on my side. I'll confirm the contents this evening, as report back.

This is an upgrade from my GTX560SE and GTX460SE. =)

    • Does AC3 key say Assassin's Creed 3 key or something like that? I checked and all I can see is Document serial No.

      • -1

Says ac3 key and lists two keys.

    • +1

Looks like the manager was not telling me the truth when he said nobody would get AC3 codes per my earlier post. I ordered at 10.59am on 11/6 and picked up at 3pm same day which was before xTIGeRx cards were dispatched and I got no code :((

      • -1

I placed my order at 9:30am, they were probably assigning the codes as the orders came through. Probably ran out shortly after my order.

  • I paid via bpay Yesterday and received an email earlier today telling me the order has been "sent to the warehouse for packing and dispatch" and on the website my order Status is "invoiced" with no way to track the order… is this normal?

    • It hasn't been dispatched yet, hence no tracking number. I received an email from tnt express that provided the tracking number.

      • Funnily enough I just received it even though it still says "invoiced" on the site, and I never got any tracking email.

        All good though :D

  • You can also get a Gigabyte one here:
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/n670wf2-gigabyte-nvidia-…

although you may have to wait for stock.

  • Any opinions about whether I should upgrade my card to this one, or wait and buy a new computer?

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz
    Windows XP (32 bit)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB
    RAM: 4GB

    Thanks

    • +1

I would buy this card and put it in a new computer, or not buy this at all.
You are well due an upgrade my friend, just don't do it by halves.

      • +1

        +1

While games these days are more dependant on graphics power, that's a very old processor there and will definitely be limiting performance of your machine. Getting 8Gb of ram and Windows 7 or 8 in 64bit would also be highly recommended, so really an entirely new machine would be best.

        • +1

    • haha dude I had the exact same V card as you. With the specs you have at the moment I recommend the upgrade. While 4GB RAM is okay these days 6gb or even 12gb+ is recommended. As with your processor it is outdated so you gotta change that as well and well your graphics card while not bad and can still run some of the latest fps in low settings with playable frame rates in about a year a so it will really struggle even for low settings for newer releases.
TL,DR: Get a new comp! Not worth getting the gpu for your current set up. Also I noticed you're running 32bit you should be running 64bit with 4gb or more RAM.

  • Thanks for the advice guys. I suspected it would be such.
Any recommendations about where I should buy it online?

    • +1

What did you wanna buy online?

      • Something like this:

        CPU: Intel i7
        MB: ?
        RAM: 8GB or more
        SSD: ?
        HD: 2TB
        Graphics: ? 2G GTX670
        OD: ?
        Case: ?
        PSU: ?

? means I dont know exactly. The GTX670 at $299 would make a nice basis for a gaming PC.
Not sure if I need an SSD. i5 or i7, guess it depends on price difference. i7 probably better future proofing.

    • +1

A new PC? This is a pretty nice deal. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/107089

      • +1

Only thing I'd ask them to change I think are the PSU and maybe the GPU, only because I prefer ASUS over Gainward :)

      • That looked pretty good, but already expired.
Do you think an SSD is useful?

        • Yes. Although it doesn't change PC performance a SSD boot drive makes it way more responsive than a traditional HDD, and therefore feels a lot more enjoyable to use.

It's kind of hard to describe. Once you've experienced a SSD boot drive you'll never want to use a HDD as a boot drive ever again.

  • +1

The price is $349 now, however:

    http://www.computeralliance.com.au/nvidia-gtx670-2gb-asus-pc…

You can get the exact same card for $299 and easily overclock it to match the $349 factory overclocked one.

The thing is it's not in stock and I've been told I'll need to wait a week or so, but that's fine with me and I've pre ordered it.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Marked expired.

Note the non-OC card you linked doesn't have the D3 mousepad. Still a fine deal considering these cards have awesome coolers. My cards hit around 60C under load yet are still whisper quiet.
