    Max Operating Temperature 35 °C - is that a usual temp for external hdd's? I've never looked myself, but considering the heat in Melbourne… Great price though, I might get 2.

    Very good price, was going to get one and strip it for the HDDs, but they're SATA 1 drives, so not so great as internals. Would be fine as externals!

    External USB drives usually have an MOT of 40 °C, so 35 °C is a bit below the norm - most probably due to the enclosure and the manufacture date of the internal drives themselves. I think this particular unit was released in late 2007. The latest hard drives today can operate up to 60 °C.

    Still, a great bargain for 2 x 500Gb of storage! I'm gonna buy one to backup all my music, photos, and movies.

    Great price. Anyone got any ideas on what brand hard drive this unit uses? Given things such as the recent Seagate firmware issue, the general unreliability of Maxtor unit etc the brand of the hard drive is becoming more important these days.

    Lucky enough to get one! Extra cost $10.92 postage from QLD to NSW for me. Total of $139.92. Still a good deal. Put 2x 1TB'ers in the enclosure & ya got urself a nice external RAID backup, but only running at slower SATA1 speeds….

      I was called and got the same deal. SATA1 speeds should be okay because you are running it through USB 2.0 anyway which wouldn't make a difference even if you had SATA II drives+interface inside.

    I then asked them about my web order and they advised there was no stock for it… (funny that…)

    happyblah: I predict these guys will be shut down within the next 5 yrs. I know someone who works at one of the stores and their regional manager who came from sister company Officeworks is doing everything to screw these guys over in all facets of the business. They have already shutdown at least 3 stores over Xmas and things aren't getting better.

    In short, nobody cares there anymore so while I don't condone or excuse bad trade practices, it doesn't surprise me.

    I actually used one of the HDD, and was not too impressed with the speed. Does Sata 1 make such a big difference? It is still 7200 rpm. Maybe the piece itself was defective?
    The space shown is 931 GB. There are two HDD inside, but you see just one drive on connecting it to the Computer.

    I will check the other one today, and also against the Western Digital 1 TB that I have, to do a comparison of speeds. I think my WD is quite fast ( it has 16 MD cache).

    If it is this slow, I might return it- unless someone at ozbargain is happy with the speed and wants to pick it for what I paid for it- 129 bucks.

      Yeah, same thing happened to me at the Brisbane store. Some person from Melbourne bought the one I had put aside and HT called and said they canceled my order.

    Mine arrived to my office in Melbourne City from HT Brisbane in under 23 hrs. Ordered it at 10am yesterday and it arrived by "off peak" courier at 9am this morning.

    Great stuff!
