Before buying this model, consider the following discussions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/673630-x…

I've had a lot of trouble with thermal throttling on my Dell. Has anyone here used this model for gaming in summer in Australia?

Personally I wouldn't spend over $600 on a non Haswell laptop right now.

Got an XPS 15 with 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD and 32GB mSATA for $1099 from the Dell Outlet just over a week ago. So far no throttling issues. Only change I've made to stop throttling is to cap the CPU at 99% in Windows settings. Been running games including Modern Warfare 3 at native resolution on high settings with no problems.

By the way, the screen on this thing is amazing. As a side affect though all you r other monitors will now look crap.

      • so u got better deal than online.. which Dell Outlet did you buy from?

      • That's an amazing spec for the money. Just watch how it goes in summer.

        • Yeah I was pretty impressed with the deal I got. I was about to buy a slightly higher spec'd model (larger mSATA and 16GB RAM) for ~$1500 in a daily deal on their site when I decided to check again on the Dell Outlet before placing my order and found this model.

I get the extremes of the weather where I live, so it'll be interesting to see how things go. Reading online it seems quite a few people have resolved any issues by removing the optical drive. I never use mine so happy to do that if necessary.

    • I have a lot of problems with an old studio (1747) with the heat. I am trying to stay away from Dells after this laptop, an m1330 that in 3 years of warranty had everything changed into it 2 times (and i do mean everything except the shell) and after more bad experiences with Dell. However i might just have a bad run with them… who knows.

      • I had a similar experience. I still have the same screen, case and power pack, but everything else has swapped out once or more. Mostly heat problems. Out of warranty now, so next purchase I'm going to be very careful with heat issues. I certainly recommend buying the Dell extended warranty, and pick the onsite option unless you live very close to the Dell service centre.

    • I have to say after a significant review I went ahead and purchased the Ativ Book 8 instead of this unit. It's faster, has an IPS touch display, better CPU + graphics, lighter, physically smaller, has a longer battery life, a design of equal quality, and no wi-fi issues + overheating/service problems.

      • Did you grab the new Haswell model? I'd be surprised if you got it for anything like $1379.

  • Is the Inspiron 15 Laptop any good for $589?

  • XPS 15:

    Cash Off $920

    holycrap!

I want the smaller screen though. How light is this thing. 2.6kg.

I'm still waiting to see which laptop I can get but my 17" is unusable/carriable and I want something small

But this is an INCREDIBLE DEAL

  • Inspiron 15R Special Edition Laptop $899 (Core i7-3632QM, 8GB, 1TB, 15.6" FHD, Radeon HD 7730M)
    Says it includes:
    mSATA SSD - 32GB (Intel® SRT enhancement)
    Typo or legit?

    • Legit…Online support says " it comes with a 32GB mSATA SSD, i can assure you"
