  • Can I ask what does mono mean? I've seen it in catalogue etc. I'm after a wireless printer to print documents occasionally, would this be a good printer? Does ink clog up if it's not used that often?

    • Mono = black and white

        Mono = black and white

Not really. Mono is a numerical prefix for anything single.

In this case, a single 'colour' - black.

For example, if I printed on yellow paper it would be 'black and yellow' not 'black and white'.

          Sigh

    • Mono usually refers to black and white printing. I can't comment on this printer but I have a Canon MFC Injet printer that sits used weeks at a time and I have never had a problem with clogging, even when using generic ink refills.

If I had to use an inkjet printer it would be a Brother.
All inkjet printers will clog up if not used regularly, its the nature of the beast.
If you do not want to print glossy photos at home then get a laser printer. They come in black and white or can do colour. Recommend Fuji Xerox.

      • I suppose I have been lucky. I have a Pixma MX870. I don't use it much but it has been a trouble free and reliable printer.

I still have the Dell wireless printer sitting its box. And I got this Brother Colour laser printer for $99 @ DS on the weekend http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XP3045/brother-hl3045cn-netw…

        • They are good when they are used regularly but I have turfed so many injets… :-(
I still got my Dell sitting in the box too… :-) scored a top of the line one. May just keep it as a souvenir of bargain hunting from OZB :-)
Since going to laser printing is not longer a chore.
Anyone with Fuji Xerox laser… cheap refils from china, non genuine, but work great! :-)

        • Where can I buy this fuji xerox? I'll probably use it once a month so I don't want anything too expensive.

        • Don't buy Fuji Xerox!
(or more specifically, don't buy DPCM205FW or CP205)
I've had them both replaced twice under extended replacement warranty, and they've continued to break down. Not only that, customer care was a horrible ordeal to go through.

I'd recommend what I have now, HP LaserJet CP1025NW Colour - wireless, colour laser printer. Have had it over a year and works like a charm. Ink isn't exactly cheap but lasts about 10x longer than inkjet so it's worth it.

        • I have the Fuji Xerox P205B http://www.fujixeroxprinters.com.au/en/Products/blackwhitepr… purchased July 2011 for $49, it's printed 1000's of pages with mostly cheap generic drums without any hiccups.

It's awesome for what it does prints invoices and Australia Post labels perfectly daily and fast.

I keep looking to upgrade to a wireless laser printer also (have a Brother MFC-J415W as well) but until something really good comes along really cheap I just can't justify it when this little things still kicking along, plus I just purchased 20 drums of toner :)

          BUY FUJI XEROX

I have this printer. Works great. Ink is cheap from ebay.

Brother have made an app for this printer on the appstore so you can print some things from your iphone/ipad.

  • Jast saw a TV ads on this printer

  • Good timing…my HP just clocked out.

If you buy the ink pack at the same time, there is a $30 cashback from Brother:

Inks cheaper on ebay of course, but one may as well take advantage..

Fairly poor from DS. This is their daily deal. It's advertised on TV, radio and in the paper. You would think they would have adequate stock to last for the whole deal. It's more like Dick's Daily Flop.

Better stay away an inkjet printer if you print infrequently. My Brother inkjet printer clogged after 3 months of purchase.

My another mono Brother Laser 2040 last for at least 4 yrs and still working quick and nice.

    • Clogging is what the ink-wasting self cleaning routines are intended to avoid. Which, strangely enough, is another reason inkjets can be costly despite infrequent use.

On the other hand, my Brother MFC-215C inkjet is very efficient for low use. Not only is it still going strong after seven years, but a few years ago I followed a simple trick to turn it into a mono-only printer (likely irreversible, given the colour tubes no longer get cleaned) and I only need to buy a single black cartridge about once a year. Not sure if you can do the same with Epson, Canon, etc. due to their chipped cartridges.

  • I have only stayed using Brother Inkjets. Their inks are cheap and is of high capacity because they don't have annoying chips. And the new ones can print directly from your android tablet. I haven't had any of the print heads on my brother inkjet clogged up. =)

  • This is now expired, price is now $109.
