  • Any review on this ultrabook? good or average?

  • -4

Very good price for a real ultrabook, but need to spend more to install Win7

    • +5

You can use classic shell to have old window interface

  • excellent price.
Have this as a work laptop and would pay that for sure.
Actually might get the same one for the mrs…. hmmmmmm

    • Hi notbad,
Are you talking about HP Envy or HP Pavilion ?

      • talking about the envy.
touchpad is a bit glitchy ( although most times i use a mouse anyway)
does get warm at times but not a deal breaker

        • Thanks

  • -3

    it is a HP.

    • +1

      Yes it is.. And?

      • +8

        good luck!

  • The Spectre XT looks like the successor to the Folio 13 which I have from last year's deals and I absolutely love that one as a business laptop.

While not as good as the Folio 13 $600 pricetag with additional powerbuy cashback, it's definitely something I would buy if I needed a laptop now even in spite of Haswells being released soon. Plus you have the $120 TGG credit.

    • +3

How is this relevant to this post?

      • HP is a bit better than Acer.

    • +2

This post is about a HP laptop sale. Nothing to do with any acer laptop.
And for your information the acer s3 is still $694 with $99 cash back from acer and $120 store credit.

        • +9

You mock HP laptop but suggest an Acer as an alternative?

        • -2

acer is $100 cheaper. acer is not worse than HP.

        • There is an article release on 19 Jan 2013 which show laptop reliability as below:

I agree working in the business of laptop and desktop PC repair myself id say HP, Dell and Toshiba were the worst Lenovo, Apple and Fujitsu are pretty good.

I can agree with Lenovo and Apple. I have brought many reconditioned Lenovo laptops and have found them to be quite sturdy. Dell seem to be a little more flimsy but are easy to repair.

Toshiba, how low you have fallen.

  • how do we get the $120 credit?

It doesnt mention it on the website?

    • +2

Sorry, i forgot to add that you have to buy online to get store credit
      More info here

  • Anyone know what the Intel UMA Shared Graphics means capability wise?

    • +6

      Shit.

    • Here is the CPU info: http://ark.intel.com/products/65707

It actually has Intel® HD Graphics 4000
So completely fine for normal desktop use, watching videos, flash games etc.
Totally useless for playing most modern 3d games.

      • I can play CS:GO at 1280x800 at high everything and 4xmsaa and 4x filtering and it is lag free. I am on a MBP 13" with HD4000. Whilst the graphics clocks can go a bit higher as it is a standard voltage processor, I get the feeling the the windows drivers may make up for some of that.

  • Hi can anyone help comment on this website? Why are they selling ultra series 9 for so cheap?

    http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/category/laptops-macbooks/100…

    • +2

coz its an online store in Canada?

  • Can anyone find a review page for the HP PAVILLION 15-B010TX? I can't seem to find it on CNET. Or can someone tech-worthy please tell me if it's a good buy? :D

    • +1

      I have one
If youre gonna use it as a cheap desktop connected to the power. Go for it

VGA card is ok if you wanna play games casually but its still bad…

Battery life is shit. 2-3 hrs average
      It heats up easily…
Im happy to sell mine for $400 when ive already upgraded the ram LOL

      Just get the ultrabook

      • Thanks for the input, kazines!

  • +6

I will never buy another HP laptop/netbook/notebook/ultrabook again - they run hot and are noisy and I just couldn't recommend them after our last experience.

We also had a very early battery death on the HP - ended up lasting 20 minutes max!

  • I'm tempted… But the UMA has scared me off on the Envy. The Sleek book's 630M has a ranking of 170 which is quite low also.

Envy's battery life is only around 4.5 hours, which is lower than most ultra's I think.

  • +4

Yes I can testify that hp experiences many heat problems

    • -1

I've heard the same, which is why you avoid the laptops with discrete graphics

    • And I thought it was just mine!

  • how much does this weigh?

    • +1

i put it on the description if you read.
      1.42 kg for the ultrabook
      2.1 kg for the sleekbook

      • +1

i ctrl + f'd 'weight' and assumed it wasn't included.
        apologies and thank you!

        • Try alt + f4 next time, it does better searches.

      • nvm

  • Check if it's got intel 6235 card then please refer to
    http://communities.intel.com/thread/31090?start=120&tstart=0

I had intel i7 spectra and having lots of dropouts and never work for me.

  • anyone thrown linux on one of these (the HP Envy Spectre TX, not the fatty)?

  • It seems the Envy got a good review in JB Hifi website.

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/ultrabooks/…

    • Useless Review.

1366 x 768 Resolution in case anyone wants to know.

  • If battery life is your top priority when choosing laptops, I'd wait until Haswell laptops ultrabooks hit the market. Just as an example, the recently announced Apple MacBook Air (with Haswell) lasts 9-12 hours per charge.

    • I thought this had already hit the market.

      • The MacBook Air has but I don't think Windows 8 ultrabooks have.

edit: fyi Haswell processor models start with a "4" as they are "4th Generation"

    • TGG has the Hewlett Packard Envy TS 15-j021TX 15.6in Core i7 Touchscreen Notebook
with Haswell for $1040. You'll get a $250 store credit with that.

      • TGG online specs are crap. Where did you find specs?

        • you have to google the model number

        • The specs are at HP's site. On one page it says "Enjoy … in Full HD", but the specs page says the screen is only 1366 x 768, bummer.

  • +9

I have contemplated buying this vs the new macbook air all day, key differences are:

    • HP has half the battery life
    • HP has a crap screen in comparison (non-IPS, 1366 res, glossy, poor viewing angles)
    • HP Performance is slightly lower being 1 generation of CPU/GPU behind and slower SSD
    • No wifi issues with HP, doesn't have 802.11ac compatibility though

Some reviews - common trends are good performance, good keyboard/trackpad, crap screen, average battery life:

    http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/hp-envy-spectre-xt-review…

I decided that at nearly half the price after store credit I am happy with the disadvantages. At this price point I think it's a great deal. Cheers for posting!

  • tempting.
but personally would never purchase a HP product anymore..
maybe i will buy this and sell it. lol

    • -2

why? why tell the community about your brodening tactics, keep it to yourself

otherwise don't take away from someone whose gonna be using it.

  • Worst experience with the HP products especially the lappys. Raid drives are pain. hitachi drives attached with the system die so often. had envy 6 for 5 months and had trouble with battery, hdd and what not.

won't recommend HP lappys to anyone.

    stay put ppl.

  • What is the video card?
and what can the "cash back" be used for? can we use it to get cash back dropping the price?

  • Received mine today and quite happy with it overall. Performance is good, screen viewing angles aren't great vertically but otherwise it's not too bad. Really not an issue having low res because the screen itself is quite small. Heat and noise are a non-issue for normal use, yet to try gaming though.
