Buying online would negate any potential price haggling (i.e. "paying less, pay cash"), right?

    • Yes

And based on my previous visits, the amount of store credit is roughly the same amount you can get discounted if you haggle which makes this much less of a deal.

Obviously this doesn't count for everything so I'm sure you can still use this deal to your advantage.

      • +1

If they cant honoring the store price and the store credit is for online only than it's rippoff, what's the point of that right? deal for higher price? …… They should honoring the store price and still give the credit store. It's not a bargain for me.

    • I sent them a message this morning via their contact page asking if they can beat a price - yet to hear back.

  • +3

It looks like there are some cashback deals for spending in store as well:

  • Get them to beat the price first? - unfortunately, I can't find an online contact facility anymore. Unless it is only available during business hours.

    30 Day Price Guarantee

    Before You Buy

In the unlikely event that you see a lower advertised price by any local competitor*, for any product we stock prior to purchasing from us, we will beat that price to maintain our Lowest Price policy.

    • Do u know their phone number during business hours?

  • Not as good as the recent $100 store credit and free $129 rrp popcorn machine for purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Note.

  • "Purchase any product $1000 or more and get a $250 Store Credit". So I'm assuming 2 items totaling over $1000 will not be eligible for the $250…..I got excited 4 nothing :(

    • "in a single transaction"

so the answer is yes you can

      • "customers must make an eligible purchase in a single transaction" Wouldn't an "eligible" purchase be a product valued at $1000 or more??
-really hope ur right tho, will call em in the morning

        • you are right, looks like you cant "The Store
Credit value issued to customers will be based on the eligible product purchased, not the total transaction value."

        • 7.

          Only
          one Claim per

So don't plan to buy 5 items, hoping to get discount off each. it wont happen

  • I recently purchased the Miele Cat and Dog Turbo here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/107612 for a cash price of $334. If you buy this online & select 'pickup' from your nearest store using the above deal, it will be $347.

Combined with THIS deal, you'll pay $347, but also get $60 store credit; much better than the PLPC price of $334, as it will be $47 more in 'store credit' where you can purchase the Miele Vacuum bags for basically free.

Argh, my boyfriend would have been better off buying his new TV online now. He purchased a $3k TV (they only took about $130 off it too! Not even 5% - the OzBargainer in me was irate. He was desperate for it though and wanted it ASAP, so agreed) on the 31st of May. We still haven't got it (so much for getting it ASAP). Could've almost doubled the savings doing it this way.

Sorry, I'm grumpy. We bought the TV because our 42-incher blew up in April. No TV for a looong time.

Cancel your order, stating it has taken too long to receive and then repurchase it and get the credit!

      • I want to. Soooo much. Or even just cancel and buy from elsewhere. Boyfriend won't have a bar of it though, they have told him it will arrive this week (which they have said for the past three weeks…) and he just wants it already.

We only bought from the Good Guys, as I purchased the fridge, microwave and washing machine from there earlier this year when we moved out together. Got brilliant prices on all of that, and the fridge was delivered with 48 hours. Boyfriend was not as lucky.

I bought a 63" Samsung from a retrovision store a couple of years ago.
Told the salesguy "will only purchase if you can deliver it next week"
Same story as you got as the next week…. "sorry no stock, 3 weeks away"
So I cancelled the sale and requested the refund on the credit card as they had "failed to uphold their sales agreement"
Reluctantly they refunded, then I went and bought it at HN as they had stock.

You can do the same if they cant deliver as agreed.

        • We ordered on the 31st, and they had an expected delivery date of the 7th, but he didn't seem overly confident on that date, so we expected it the following week.

We go in about once a week. About a week and a half ago, they said that they couldn't find a record of ours being dispatched. They said that someone else who had ordered one AFTER us would be getting it around the 20th and they said we could have that one, as it didn't look like ours would be in any time soon.

The 20th came and went, and we went in on Friday (21st) and they finally had tracking on it (the one the other person ordered after us - poor guy will be waiting ages too, I think). They said Monday. Nothing yesterday, so we are going in tonight to see where it is.

So basically, we keep getting dates, but nothing actually arriving. They said it's because they don't have a Sharp representative, so they sometimes have issues with Sharp products. Could have told us that before we purchased :(

Sorry for yet another rant! Just keep scrolling…

        • +4

You'd think that when purchasing a 3k tv you'd get slightly better service!

    • -6

130 off, or 250 to buy something overpriced that you wont probably need. Hmmm

    • +1

I think not wise to buy $3k tv now so many decent size 55-60 with enough functions at around $1.5-2.2k.

      • +3

Tell me about it. Couldn't persuade him to NOT buy it. He wanted his 70" TV, and was willing to spend $3k. We didn't need anything extra (smart, 3D, etc.) he just wanted a giant screen. I would roll my eyes and say "boys…" but I know I'm kind of outnumbered here on OzB ;)

        • I think it's ok if he really wants that 70".(they are relatively more expensive by size, but still reasonable I think)

        • I'm looking forward to it! I just wouldn't have paid that much, myself. I went out and bought a new TV unit to complement it though :)

        • oh ok if 70" i 100% agree size is matter.
but 70" at the moment is not on "sweet spot" for tv.
therefore you will pay premium to get it as you can see, around $1k for extra 10"

        • That's exactly right. I tried to get him to look at the 60" TVs, but he was happy with the Sharp 70", as it was $3k, compared to the Sony 70" which is $4.5k - he felt like it was a good deal :)

        • The sharp has been out of stock for a while , I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bit of a wait to go. I guess it depends how far up the sharp queue the store is.

        • We thought as much. Our local JB didn't have it at all, HN and TGG only had the floor model available (which we possibly should have taken when they offered it…)

        • 2 weekends ago the Sharp 70" was on sale at Good Guys, Harvey Norman, and JB HiFi for $2,698 as I had all 3 websites open looking at this TV.

The Sony 70" was around 4K the same weekend.

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105958

Good Guys have a 30 day price guarantee which I believe also works on their own prices if they have a sale right after you buy.

I have found the Good Guys to be pretty friendly about price matching, and I got a small refund on my last TV when Dick Smiths had it cheaper a couple of weeks after I bought it.

I would absolutely be going back to them and asking for the 30 day price guarantee at $2698 (best option) - or the $250 store credit (not as good).

        • Huh, only noticed it was around that at JB, didn't think (or want to) look at TGG… would I need proof? Or if I go in and say it was on sale for $2698 on the 15th/16th (correct dates?), will they be able to look that up and confirm?

Thanks for letting me know! I wouldn't have thought to check if it had been on sale recently, as I felt like I had been keeping an eye on it - not closely, evidently.

        • +1

There is a cool little utility called WebMon which allows you to monitor web pages (even just a small part of a page, eg the price) and it notifies you when it changes.

I often buy electronics stuff on my GE 28degrees credit card, and then set up a WebMon link for it for 6 months in case there is a price drop I can claim through 28degrees (any drop over $10 from same store as purchase, within 6 months).

  • +1

What brand was the TV that blew up?

    • A Samsing?

      • Sorny?

    • Panasonic. It didn't 'blow up' (just seems more dramatic to say it that way), it just stopped working. Error code says it's a power issue. It belongs to my partners parents. Boyfriend took it as a great reason to buy the new 70" TV he wanted…

      • +1

Probably just a fan inside that stopped working. There's protection circuits to prevent the TV turning on in those cases to prevent overheating. The correct replacement fan is usually $10 - $30 on ebay.

  • Love the picture of the washers… Mine dont look like that…

Was interested in buying a HTC One however their price is $747. I can get it from Harvey Norman for $686. If I got it for $686 the $120 store credit could be worthwhile.

    • I agree. I was planning to do the same but still cheaper than the competition.

  • Good time to purchase the Sony Xperia Z again.

    • I did this at the last mother's day promo with the same credit, but got it PM'ed with HN's price of $594 or whatever the price was when I went to pick it up. So works out really cheap.

The Good Guys are kinda crap. I'm not sure I'd want to get store credit there.

Here's a little story from recently. There was a deal on Kenwood Toasters w/cashback @ Bing Lee that everybody went crazy for. Around the corner from Bing Lee there was a Good Guys who had stock of the Kenwood Toaster. I asked the sales guy "can you pricematch on this toaster?" and the guy goes "yeah sure, what's the price?". I inform him it's $55, and then he goes "oh we can't pricematch that because it's on special" so I tell him "worth a try" and then I went to Bing Lee and bought the toaster there.

I just don't get why they would say that they could price match, but then not price match because they don't like the price.

    • +1

the bad guys more like it

    • +1

yeh, i had the GG gift cards bought from Auspost when they were on special. Honestly, nothing at GG was cheap compared to the competition

    • +1

I'll also add that the "pay less pay cash" is a total rip considering you're still paying more than pretty much every other place.

Every now and then they have some nice store-exlusive deals. I picked up Gears of War 2 GOTY for $10 there once upon a time. However generally speaking it's not my preferred place to buy.

      • Your mileage may vary. My nearest Good Guys (Alexandria) is usually pretty good, depending on who you get. I was shopping for a 42" TV and after doing a bunch of comparing prices, they had the cheapest on a particular model. First thing I asked was how much more I can get off if I went with cash and he took another $80 off. I was out in 10 minutes.

        • It "could" be one of those places that vary from store to store. For example the Harvey Norman in Fyshwick tend to deliver the best TV prices in Canberra whereas HN doesn't have the best rep elsewhere. In my personal experience if you pay cash at GG you get $7-$10 off the price. Thanks for that….

  • Why does the fine print say 26th to 27th June inclusive instead of 25th?

oh that's on the promotion page, I assume the pdf is more accurate.

  • +1

Sorry don't see how this is a deal, go into store and haggle the price down and most of the time get more than the discount off the price, plus you don't have to pay for delivery.

Note i just purchased a dishwasher on Sunday, i payed 150 ( was under 999) less then online and that does not include delivery.

    • Hey I am also looking to buy a dishwasher. Can you provide more details where & whch model you bought & how much did you pay? Thx

  • I need a washing machine.

    http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Samsung_7.5kg_Front_…

The above comes with $100 cashback from samsung, effectively making it $449, except with $50 delivery it is really $499.

Appliances online have the same deal for $549 with $100 cashback, except delivery is free, making it $449.

So.. do I spend $50 less, or do I spend $50 more and get $120 store credit…

    that is the question…
Anyone know of any better washing machine deals?

    • There are a few receipts on OzBargain for this washing machine going for ~475
That'll make it ~375 after cashback

Worth trying to directly haggle it off the machine you're purchasing rather than get a store credit

    • I am just considering the same buy as yours. It is a dilemma, isn't it? However given the $120 credit only valid for 1 month, unless you need something else otherwise it's not quite useful.

    • This is an awesome washing machine (for the price) - we are very very happy with it.

I got from GG for $472 when the price matched Harvey Norman, and it then had a $75 cash back from Samsung.

  • Website is dying!

  • i am looking for a washing machine too.
Can you please online but pick up instore to save delivery fee?

  • +1 for a washing machine deal…

  • Hi,

I am planning to buy the ACER ASPIRE M3985 CORE I7 DESKTOP computer (http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Acer_Aspire_M3985_Co…). Do people think this is a good buy with the $250 credit?

Before I was planning to buy this desktop on eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290773505257

But it seems the Acer one is better?

    • +1

I would say - I have no idea about the Acer because there are hardly any specifications listed. You want a computer for gaming?

The ebay set-up doesn't seem like great value. They don't specify what motherboard, ram, power supply or hard drive (as in model and brand), which makes me suspicious. The graphics card is decent but the CPU is a last generation one and also probably overkill - generally better value from an i5 for gaming.

      • Thanks for the opinion. Here are the specs of the Acer: http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/model/DT.SJQSA.019

Do you think its an OK buy?

        • Well, I haven't heard of the graphics card before (HD 7670) and couldn't find any info on it either.

If you want to play games, I would steer clear of "brand names" like HP, Acer etc. and would instead buy from a PC shop, where you'll get more for your money. Acer would use cheap quality parts for cooling/power supply/motherboard, which is not desirable (can lead to overheating, early failure of parts).

If you're set on buying from the goodguys, the Acer you listed is your best choice.

I don't know where you live but this would be a better buy imo.

  • Any opinions on this guy?, good guys seem to be cheaper than JBHIFI.
