Hey Everybody,
I spend a long time on the computer and had been looking for a decent deal on the Vertical Mouse. This is the best price I could find, might be useful for last minute tax / work related purchases. Arrived in two weeks, and it's quite good.

Officeworks price is 199$

Evoluent Vertical Wireless mouse. ~ 135 AUD based on Exchange rate.

Here's some Reviews on Amazon if you need help making the decision.

Good for techies / CAD and other Computer people. Also love the fact that the extra buttons can be customized. Not as good for Gamers since it's not really designed with that in mind, also doesn't look as sexy.

Features:
Supports right handed users to maintain an upright neutral posture that avoids forearm twisting.
Designed to provide superior comfort and relieve wrist pain.
Sculpted shape is comfortable with easy-to-reach programmable buttons.
A thumb rest and two thumb buttons provides extended functionality.
An extended wide lip along the bottom edge prevents the last finger from rubbing against desks.
An adjustable laser sensor allows convenient pointer speed controls.

Recommended by medical doctors, ergonomists and physical therapists.

  • That is just weir.

    • +1

Yes but they do help with wrist pain. They take a few days to get used to, but then you'll never go back.

There are very similar no-name ones on ebay (search for 'ergonomic mouse') selling for $10 for wired and $20 for wireless.
These ebay ones are surprisingly reliable and are very comfortable on the wrist.
Not sure I'd pay this much for one of these brand named ones though…

  • OW link that's $169:

Have you considered the joystick type of mouse?

    • Ultraman ,
that one is the wired variant for 169 $ , the comparison one is wireless for 199$.

I looked at those too on Ebay and bought a Korean one Wowpen Joy in the past, it's not bad, but the extra buttons and more vertical shape of the Evoluent one swayed it for me.

Also as I am discovering there are neat little things with the mouse driver, you can set all these short cuts

      =================================

My bad, I liked to the wired one, should have linked to the wireless. Updated title and price.
      • For wireless that's a good price, but I think delivered price becomes $118.95 + $16.89 = $135.84.

  • A good wrist support also helps to aleviate wrist pain — before you go out and spend $100's on a mouse try a gel pad and see if it works.

And if you're using a lousy mouse with poor ergonomics, consider getting a Logitech gaming mouse (even a budget one like a G300.

  • I bought this mouse and it was not very comfortable to use. Because it is vertical when you click left or right mouse buttons, the whole mouse moves unless it is supported by thumb. It gives more trouble to thumb. Now I have a logitech mouse and I am very happy with it. Also, I tried wowpen joy (I think it is the name). Wheel button broke in few weeks.

  • If the extra buttons arent important to you there exists a wireless wowpen for $24

  • I've been using this and earlier versions of the mouse for several years in my work, albeit in a wired format. Can't comment on pricing because I don't foot the bill, but I'd highly recommend the use of some form of vertical mouse that places your forearm in a neutral (aka "handshake" position) rather than the conventional mice which requires the two bones in your forearm to be crossed.

I have an older one at home too and most visitors who notice it find it interesting. There is a slight adjustment period when you first use it but it's only really (un)twisting your forearm by about 90 degrees - the position of your hand and fingers relative to the mouse are still essentially the same as for a normal (horizontal) mouse. I have nad no issues with the thumb matter mindapoocha mentions - my thumb just rests on the thumb rest of the mouse and I do not need to exert any conscious effort on the thumb to prevent the mouse moving when clicking buttons with the fingers.

Using a joystick type mouse, while helping with the neutral forearm position, would require a new hand position/grip. I've not tried this myself though.

Wrist supports (in conjunction with a horizontal mouse) do help in some circumstances but do not address the forearm twist.

  • Horses for courses.

This is not for everyone, main prospects are people who use the mouse a lot (Typically, designers, CAD draftsmen, 3D designers, etc)

Not suitable for Gamers since the response time is not quick enough, and it isn't optimised for gaming functions like the logitech mice.

Alternatively for people with Carpal tunnel syndrome or those starting to develop symptoms.

I use this, I have used the Wowpen Joy and thought this was better(for me).

  • My wrist has been giving me grief so I ordered the wired version, for around $120. Looked on and off for a while but officeworks do not have them in stock anyway (online only) so bit the bullet.

  • Mine arrived today, all god, using it at work, feels unusual but seems good quality and not too hard to use.
