David Attenborough: Planet Earth Complete BBC Series (Blu-Ray) A $22.87 Del from Amazon UK-Update

980

Part of Amazon's Summer Sale, and currently $53.99 at JB. Expiry date of the sale not known.
I thoroughly enjoyed the series when recently on TV (yay!), but it wasn't even broadcast in HD (boo, hiss). Reviews are extremely positive- one of the best comments: "as if there is an Intergalactic Tourist Board and this is their advertisement for aliens to come and visit Earth."

Looking forward to it's arrival.

Pricing: £11.75 - VAT + delivery = £13.37. A$22.87 using Amazon's currency converter.

Note "Life" is also advertised at £11.76.

Update: it looks as if they're out of current stock - now says "Usually dispatched within 6 to 7 days" - but still available at this price.

You won't be disappointed with this for 20 bucks. Excellent value, from memory it's five discs.

  • Love these types of docos. Just watched Wild China and currently watching Nature's Great Escape.

Amazing Doco! If you don't have it yet you gotta get it!

  • Apparently it's 1080i and NOT 1080p?
    What the hell?

Ahh awesome cheers. Strongly considering this purchase, 4-disk on sale at JB for $53, and this has an extra disc.

      • Interesting. The Australian HD DVD copy is the only one which has the making of diaries which makes that one the best one still to own.

        • Arguably the bonus content on this one is better, whatever floats ones boat though. Unless the Australian one has both ?

  • It appears to be region 2 discs, I wonder if my Sony BD player would play it?

    • +2

Amazon specifies it as: Region: All Regions (ie region free)

      • Yeah, I was looking at the mobile site which showed R2. The full site does show all regions.

        • This better be region free. I have a big pile of DVD's bought while in US for my elder kid which became unusable for the little one as they all are region2 and can not play in any of my home BlueRayPlayer or the car DVD player (Toyota/Clarion).
Just don't want to add another DVD which I can not play at all. For me the region issue has become too much :(

        • Just a thought: how about buying a US DVD player? We did that in China.

  • +1 because its David Attenborough
if its morgan freeman might get +2

It's a choice between a veteran of natural history who speaks with authority and interjects his script impromptu from his wealth of knowledge and a Hollywood actor who reads out a prepared script.
      David Attenborough wins hands down.

      • Couldn't David have just written the script and gotten Morgan Freeman to read it?

        • In the US release they got Signourney Weaver to do the voice-over. But she had to leave out the personal bits in which David Attenborough recounted his own past encounters. Most of the better informed amongst the American viewers preferred the original version which outsold the US version.

He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet. :)

        • Relax, it's a joke…

      • Are you confused with Nelson Mandela?!

  • OMG, Ozbargain is killing me.
Bought this and "Life" as well.

Not as good as this deal, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96982. But still awesome, nonetheless.

  • Best doco to watch after a smoke.

  • Lucky this is the UK release which is David Attenborough narrated. Just don't buy the US release it's narrated by Oprah Winfrey instead. Bargain price.

Absolutely one of the best BBC documentaries. Get it it….watch it….and enjoy!

  • Seen so many bargains listed for Planet Earth and Life, had to buy both just to see what the fuss is about.

    Any other documentary suggestions?

    • I bought Africa, Madagascar, Frozen Planet & Human Planet for 50 pounds.. I went over to the UK recently and couldn't find anywhere near the prices of amazon uk in retail stores..

      • Add that we don't pay VAT and you'll find we are getting some things cheaper delivered than people who live in the UK, even with them having free delivery.

Only 7 left when I first looked, now only 5 left…. Better hurry.
    Also bought Life.
Been wanting to buy these for yonks, but always fear I'd have no time to watch…..

But when I checked out, the price came down to £9.79. Hope it is still the same item.

    • £9.79 is the price without VAT.

Darn you OzB's! I had to go back and buy LIFE just because you others did. Maybe (!) they'll only charge me one delivery…

    • I remember you can edit your recent order.
      Good luck.

Also worth picking up the latest BBC nature offering "Africa" . I've seen all the BBC nature series and this one is right up there and the new starlight cameras are incredible. Never seen behaviour of Hippo's meeting at a secret waterhole was simply amazing and also very sad when you realise how threatened this species is.

  • Couldn't resist! Thanks op

  • Why won't they release The Blue Planet on blu ray >:( it wasn't filmed THAT long ago.

  • Thanks.

    Ordered. Paid. Waiting for it…

    Ended up getting:
    Planet Earth
    Life
    Blue Planet

All for around AUD$53 delivered.. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks, OP … I just grabbed Attenborough's Planet Earth, Brian Cox's Wonders box set (Wonders of The Solar System, WOT Universe) and Iain Stewart's "Earth" box set all in Blu-ray for $63/17, delivered.

That's about half the JB prioce, even with 20% off this weekend.

Shirl (the natural history / animamamals watcher in our place) is gonna love them!

  • Thanks! Bought it! Nearly paid double in Jb Hifi despite the 20%sale

  • I'm currently watching Planet Earth (same copy as described here) and in some parts, the PQ is very grainy. Actually, quite disappointing. People have been praising the picture quality, but in my opinion it doesn't meet those expectations.

That being said, the majority of the video is very good.

  • thanks for that info

  • 'Planet Earth' & 'Life' are 2 essential must have series as part of your documentary collection.

'Great Migrations' is worth checking out too.

  • The things that are captured in this serious is breathtaking. A must for all documentary enfusiast. Very cheap price too.

  • Bought this some time ago, very good and very well spent $$$$ !
