  • Nice price wish it was 4" bigger as I'm after a 46" plus

Bad thing is the HN extended warranty as I'm told, correct me if in wrong they only do a replacement warranty now and once you use it, it's over. And it's twice as much as TGG and JB

That's how it works with our LG oven. HN confirmed this.

Extended warranties are a joke. You have statutory rights regardless of the length of warranty that you are given/pay for. There is no good reason to take out extended warranties in Australia.

      • yet bring this up with most salesman (in my experience) and they play ignorant

        • +2

I don't know that they are acting, I think they (like a lot of people) genuinely don't know their rights as a consumer.

For reference, the ACCC actually has an app which can help explain consumer rights. It's good if you ever need to check the way the law actually works.

        • Yeah, bought a washing machine from HN last week. The salesperson asked if we wanted extended warranty beyond the standard 1 year, and I replied with "no, a washing machine should last at least 3 or so years before any issues", to which he gave me a blabbering story about how he knows many customers who have struggled to attain statutory warranty (even less than 2 years after purchasing the item).

At the time, I also asked him to price match other HN stores (I showed him 3 or 4 receipts), but he said it's probably only a special for east coast HN stores (NSW, VIC, etc), and that the price of transporting a washing machine to SA is the reason the washing machine is ~$100 dearer… because, y'know… thousands of electrical appliances aren't transported to SA or anything.

Dude, I use to work at Harvey Norman, they don't make money off the products, its the up selling is where they make their money.

        • +1 on this. Also from experience… quite a profit margin on warranties

  • I bought my 42" LG LED TV from HN ~16 months ago for roughly the same price ($600).

Luckily for me, LG TV's manufactured in 2011 and prior come with a standard 3-year warranty (opposed to 1-year warranty for TV's manufactured in 2012 and onwards). 6 months ago I had to replace the HDMI motherboard in the unit, and it seems the same issue is plaguing my TV again. I have no sound output (or I get a pink screen) when I play something through HDMI (PS3, WDTV, etc). I literally have to turn off and on the WDTV and TV ~3 or 4 times for it to work. I wouldn't say it's from overuse as the TV remains in the same position every damn day, and no HDMI cables are being removed/plugged in on a daily basis.

I guess my point is that it's probably worth taking out their overpriced additional warranty if you're not prepared to fight tooth and nail for your statutory warranty.

Just because you're too lazy to exercise your rights doesn't mean you should be recommending extended warranties, which are now a waste of money in most cases with the clarified consumer laws. And fight tooth and nail? By spending 2 minutes lodging a case with your state consumer authority??????

      • More so joking/relating what I said above in regards to the salespersons comments about statutory warranty. I personally have never had to use statutory warranty but salespersons (and a few horror accounts on Whirlpool) say otherwise. I really don't know what to think of it.

  • Shame it doesn't have an ethernet connection from what I read!

    • Seems it is not a "Smart TV"

    Receipt for price match please

  • Sounds like a great deal but with no receipt or store info this is useless unfortunately.

Hmm yeah Father-in-law got one of these in March for $550. Seemed pretty par for the course for me. Its not a smart TV but can play some formats over USB. Unfortunately it doesnt play the sound from HD-mkv movies and such. Bit of a downer. Might be fixed by firmware update. but it couldn't get it because LG au hasnt apprvoed the new firmware (though its out for the UK model).

Picture quality was okay but couldnt seem to get it looking really nice in the room even after alot of adjustment. The backlight is smoother than my 47LS5700 but the picture just doesnt look as good. Was a huge upgrade for him at the time though as there wasnt any other deals around.

Also it had only 1 HDMI input. So you can see the market they are going for, Granma and Granpa for sure.

  • Televisions are more expensive to buy now than 6 months ago.

I bought my LG (47LM6200) for $696 about 6 months ago.
