  • Is this a good deal? Would love to know :)

  • I wouldn't buy it…I'd wait for something better.

    http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/lg-47lm6200/4505-6482…

    Good price though.

  • Got one of these in the JB sale. Excellent TV for the price, works really well.

  • Looked through a lot of reviews on Amazon for this series and the vast majority is very positive. Bought, thanks for posting!

  • I paid 3 times the price for LG LW series for same size 1.5 years back.
Only difference I can see is :
    100 Hz vs 200 Hz.
    3 usb vs 2 usb
I hope it has PVR feature too.

  • tv looks nice. sounds like good deal.

does it work with well hooked up to a pc? would the clarity of text be pretty good for a TV? anyone tried it out by any chance?

  • I don't think this TV has PVR, just USB Playback. Does anyone know the compatible formats. They all play Xvid avi's but I'm looking for one that plays x264 mp4's and maybe even mkv. Does anyone know if this tv is compatible with these formats?

    • According to LG Australia website, no:
"USB 2.0 - Yes Movie (DivX) HD, Photo (Jpeg), Music (MP3)"

For $50 just get one of those android TV sticks.

Just an update for everyone, they do play xvid avi, they do play x264 mp4, but it wouldnt play an mkv (video but no audio). Also, dick smith were selling it for 637 but they sold out, i asked TGG to price match, not happening. Still not a bad price at 696.

Also went to JB, they were selling it for 896. There were like 10 people crowded around it, i said "hey, the good guys are selling this same tv for 200 bucks cheaper". The news rippled around like chinese whispers and all of a sudden no one was looking at the tv anymore haha. The sales rep gave me a dirty look. I lold.

        • DSE $637 is 42" (42LM6200), this is 47" (47LM6200)

          Dicksmith only has 47" non 3D for $677 (47LS5700)

        • Just tried 720p mkv (H264 video, AC3 audio) on mine and worked fine. Yet to try 1080p.

DLNA works very well with both Linux and Windows sources.

    • Mine play few MKV. For few there is no sound. It used to be all fine, but after a system update, it changed.
I have to play the movies through LG 3d Blue ray player, which can play almost all formats.

    • The LG website says it has PVR.
"Time Machine (DVR) Function - Compatible (USB storage device is required and will need to be purchased separately)"
      http://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-47LM6200-lcd-tv

  • Is 3D and uses passive glasses (same as at the theatre) rather than the expensive active one. Also has a 'Dual Play' mode where one player uses 2 'left' lenses and one uses 2 'right' ones so can play head to head with Xbox and get full screen which is amazing!

This is really cheap - I paid $850 at JB (on special at $895 down from 1195) 3 days ago!!! Older model, but no real change to the newer one (supposed to have local dimming but reviewers can't see any difference)

Has an RGB input for PC.

Does DLNA off a server on the local network, but only wired ethernet standard (can get a WIFI dongle I believe)

Seems much clearer than my 5 year old Plasma, and heaps cooler (so cheaper to run)

Smart TV gets blocky web browser and a number of apps, but does not compete with a PC for that.

    • So you've had plasma for 5 years? You are the perfect person to ask then. I have also had a plasma tv for a long time (Panasonic Viera) and I have been looking to make the switch to LCD.

I literally love everything about LCDS, but the one thing I'm not sure about (and which is fairly important) is the picture quality. Rightly or wrongly I have this idea that plasma has a more mature, perhaps nicely muted picture quality (ie easy on the eyes) whereas LCDS are bright, in your face, almost too OTT in regards picture quality.

None of my friends have an LCD so I'm only going off show floors and hearsay.

What are your thoughts a few days after making the switch?

      • i have 2 LCDs and 2 plasmas at home that I use simultaneously. While plasma does indeed produce more natural colour this is really only an issue when it comes to SD or free to air content. LCD's tend to produce this kind of hyper colour quality to it, very noticeable on things like skin tones. For HD blurays and the like, they both will produce excellent picture quality

        • Ah, you've hit the nail on the head with skin tones. I have definitely noticed the coloring with pinks and oranges giving the hyper quality you mention.

You mention SD free to air being the main culprit - would you say that HD free to air fairs much better, or is it only super HD via blueray etc which looks terrific?

Also how do you find the differences with sporting events such as the AFL when fast motion is introduced? Does plasma have the upper hand here?

          Thanks.

    • Well, technically each player in Dual Play mode only gets half of whatever resolution you are running at.
But it does look fullscreen to both players, so i guess there is always that…

Even better if you still got those auspost GG gift cards!

  • Went to a lot of shops, only my local Joyce Mayne had it in stock. They were willing to match it (after speaking to the manager for a while) but not beat it.

  • Nice looking deal. +1 to you sir :-)

  • Almost got this at JB HiFi. Then compared to Samsung next to it and Samsung looked more vibrant…

But given this price, I can live with the slightly less vibrant screen. Picture quality was really good though.

  • Good Guys Artarmon still has them in stock.

If you haven't got confirmation, they are just trying to catch up on orders as they were closed yesterday.

I can go pick mine up any time.

  • Another option if you prefer plasma and a bigger screen for $53.00 more.

Today I used a screen shot from the Good Guys website of their $696 offer to get a $64 gift card as a post-purchase price match from JB Hi Fi in Bendigo having bought this TV from them for $760 on 16/12. The manager initially gave a few excuses (e.g. that price is below JB cost, but it's a boxing day sale price, etc) but I held my ground. I was happy with the card over cash as I'm sure to buy something from JB in the next two years before it expires. To celebrate the windfall I bought the Marquez guitar for $79 just listed on OzB. Love this time of year.

  • Hows the internet on this? Easy to use? Does it work over wifi? (require usb dongle? ) mainly for youtube videos and such.

Anyone else confirm if this plays mkv?

    • Wifi is next to useless on tv's. My friends, both with higher spec tv's suffer from slow connection on wifi. You will get much better speed if you plug an Ethernet cable in.

      • aww..sucks cause i dont have a ethernet connection in the lounge room!

  • Thanks for posting this mate! Got mine today PAID CASH and got it for $680 after some haggling :-P

Picture is very nice and im pleased with this tv.

  • i bought this from JB 2 weeks back when they had 15% off for $760. When i asked the rep whether the tv had wifi, he said it definitely had wifi built in. i said i wanted to test it but he said don'w worry there is a wifi definitely built in. There was a small plastic triangular box kinda thingy which advertised a 100 dollar LG app credit and watch Avengers in 3D but redeem it before dec 20th or something. I came home, no wifi and no app credit cuz app credit promotion finished in November. I shot a mail to JB. they were very responsive and kind. They offer me 100 $ credit and a wifi dongle for free. so 660 + wifi dongle..not a bad deal. I am absolutely satisfied with the TV. i can confirm that there is no audio issue with mkv files after system update. Dual play is working fine.

    • i tried using a generic dongle in this but it didnt work, what is so special about the lg dongle?

  • the mkvs u r playing…is it dts or ac3? on my LG it can only play mkv with ac3 otherwise there is video wifh no sound (audio not supported with dts)

    • +1

ac3. i did not try with dts. I installed Plex media server on macbook. thats a brilliant software. You don't have to do a thing, the tv recognises all the videos in the library and its a bit freaky when it also identifies the movies and has short summary, cast and crew etc. One disadvantage i can think of is the guide and home button which are place very close to the arrow buttons. Every single time i press down, i go to the tele guide. 2D to 3D..i wonder if it works. i see no difference. It does not recognise my WD 2TB portable HDD.
Can some recommend a good Blu-Ray player? I am thinking Panasonic DMP-BDT220. Also is there a way to mirror my mac screen on to my TV wirelessly ?

  • Noticed a possible problem with the tv. When viewing a couple of free to air tv shows (at times during the show) it seems as if things get sped up, for example a person walking across the screen seems to be almost running. Its as if someone is hitting the fastforward button but the audio is normal….weird as! what could this be?

    • +1

Turn off TruMotion in video settings. It's meant to make the picture look better by making the it more fluid, it's a personal preference.

      • Cheers mate! will do, thanks for helping.

  • Managed to get one, and I must say playing 4 players split screen as a '2 players per screen' (via dual play) is amazing! :)

  • Cheers to the OP.. Managed to get one today from Darwin.. The good guys sold out all their stock on boxing day, so I drove to harvey norman (although only today they put the price on their website up to $795) and got one from there for $695.. Awesome TV! Works nicely with an ethernet cable directly through the router (the wifi dongle is sold separately for $40)..

    • +1

yeah mate i found that out also. They like to keep thing proprietary so you can't just use a standard dongle for a few bucks from ebay, smart of them I guess but annoying at the same time!
