  • lol… showing as US151.99 for me before shipping. was going to post this info in the itestate 4tb since it a fair bit cheaper and when purchasing 4 for a nas it alot cheaper.

    • How is it showing as US 151.99 before shipping - shows 189 for me

      At 151.99 I'll buy 4!!

      • btw the one i see is a slightly different hdd. it the 5400rpm

  • no deal… after currency conversion, it is $254+fees

and IT Estate shipping to Perth is $12

    • -1

it a deal when the price is US$190.25 including shipping.

      http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/835055-REG/Hitachi_0S0…

      • "Coolspin" aka "Green drive" aka "POS" aka "Slow as a wet week"

The IT Estate is a 7200rpm drive

The 7200rpm at BH is USD 189 plus shipping. Still better than IT estate if you buy more than one…

        • exactly - B&H is a deal if buyer wants 2 or more

        • The 5400rpm drive would probably be preferable for NAS/Microserver applications.

        • Tests showed my WD Green serves up large collections of images to IrfanView just as quickly as my 7200 RPM Barracuda, so for that kind of use, 5400 RPM is not a crutch.

If you need speedier large file copies/backups, having both a 7200 RPM source and destination may be worthwhile. A word of warning, though - the 4TB Hitachi 7200 RPMs are old school noisy at idle. Nowhere near as quiet as my 3TB Barracuda 7200 RPM, which is down near green drive level in audibility.

        • Get with the times. Green drives/5400rpm/5900rm etc are in now way slow. Especially if you're running an array.

      • that is a 5400rpm Coolspin, not the 7200rpm DeskStar version

        • yes… i wasn't really looking in terms of speed, my bad.

but for my purpose the speed wouldn't affect me.

  • My mistake, didnt do the conversion.

    • edit the deal - make it clear this is good for those who order more than one :)

Include the coolspin version link as well for NAS users

I removed my neg vote in preparation :D

      • From your comment, coolspin is better for NAS? Your handle is familiar. Are you from atomicmpc/OCAU by any chance?

        • ah! your post on Ocow makes sense now :D

crowded home NAS with limited airflow doesn't need 7200rpm drives

  • Does anyone know what the price will be like, in about 2 months time (excluding unexpected natural disasters)? Basically that's when I intend to perform an upgrade on my computer, there's no rush.

Just wondering if I need to jump on this deal now, or will regret it in 2 months time.

    • The trend is always to go down. Prices went up after the wet in Thailand… If the dollar does not slide to much against the US we should see better prices in two months.

      • thanks.

      • The trend is always to go down.

we should see better prices in two months.

Unless a company like Megabuy comes along and buys all the stock in the country, then sells for a jacked up price.

        • +1

What sort of Mega-douche would do such a thing?

        • One that sees an opportunity (to make more money).

  • MSY are selling the same drive for 269, so a little bit cheaper
But they are selling the Seagate 4TB drive for 195

  • Note that most Seagate "7200" drives are not actually 7200 rpm. Seagate makes it hard to find the real number (ie. by not publishing it) so that even "Barracudas" are actually slow drives now.

The most common model number you will see is ST4000DM000. The "rare" 7200 rpm model is ST4000DX000.

Anyway, I paid US$170 for mine recently (May 20th) so I don't think this is much of a bargain.

  • I went into this store today. Crazy store. All purchases are take. To the front desk by conveyer belts and just about everyone is Jewish All with the little hats and hair etc. doesn't make a difference but was more Jewish than I had seen in my lifetime.

  • How about cracking open one of these - http://www.cplonline.com.au/external-storages/external-hard-…

Also available at mwave, PC case gear…etc. for the same price - try staticice. They have 4TB 7200rpm drives inside.
