I always buy the 'wrong' console.... Which next gen will be the biggest?

My first computer was an Atari XT… When all my mates had a Commodore 64. Then I got a Sega Master System - when everyone knows the NES was better. Handheld gaming? I didn't get the game boy…. No….. I got and Atari Lynx.

I also owned a Megadrive, and a GameCube.

Looking back - I probably should have gone Xbox over PS3…..

Which next gen should I throw my weight behind? Wii U, Xbox one or Ps4?

Where's the Pc as an option!

    • +12

Steam's Big Picture view and the rumours of a "Steambox" make a PC the best choice for mine.
Free online, super cheap games, massive community all with proper browsing (not restricted to the supplied browser), unlimited media playback support (not restricted to a couple of codecs), unrestricted access to any media store (your iTunes library is accessible from the "console").
Plus the hardware cost is the cheapest… (assuming you own a PC) a $5 HDMI cable, $5 Bluetooth Dongle and a $50 controller

Between xbox and PS4, the PS4 looks like it'll be better for Australia.. Too many features are US only on the xbox, which means, not only do we pay the Australia Tax, we pay extra for a much less capable box!
Screw you Microsoft, that's not the way things are supposed to work!

      • +2

The "steambox" isn't a rumour, it's confirmed and happening.

Between the PS4 and XB1, yes some features will be US exclusive, but they're really only things that logically should be US exclusive. Netflix isn't available in Australia, so Netflix not being on the XB1 (for example) isn't something that you should hold against Microsoft or the XB1. We will get Freeview supported by the XB1's TV Guide feature, even if not at launch. Apart from that, there's really not much that will be US only that isn't US only in general (ala Netflix).

The PS4 will sell more, no doubt. Not because of quality of games, not because of power, but because of the word "Sony". Take a look at any of the big video game forums/sites and you'll see easily 10x more Sony fanboys than any others.

The XB1 will sell respectable numbers though, easily enough for it to still get all the games from 3rd party companies, and there will be little to no discernible difference from the PS4 version. Mandatory Kinect will even give the XB1 version some advantages.

I'll be buying both along with a steambox though, so I win either way haha.

        • I do hold hold Netflix against Microsoft because you have to have the Gold account to access it. I basically have to pay for Netflix + gold account to get Netflix.

The same goes for their browser, you have to have the Gold account to access it. WTF.

        • What does that have to do with Netflix not being available in Australia on the XB1 though? Nothing.

It's not available in Australia because Netflix isn't available in Australia, not because Microsoft just aren't releasing it in Australia. Microsoft don't own Netflix, so Netflix not being available here isn't something you blame Microsoft for - that's what I'm saying.

Locking it behind XBox Live Gold, well that's purely their decision. Don't like it? Don't pay for Gold.

People seem to be forgetting that these game consoles aren't a human right - you're not entitled to a new game console every x years that plays used games and never needs an internet connection. If Microsoft choose to put Netflix behind Gold then that's 100% their decision, and you can't whinge and say it shouldn't be behind Gold. They're providing an optional privilege, not a right. As Microsoft said, if you don't have electricity you wouldn't buy a vacuum. You don't whinge to the vacuum company and say that by rights you deserve to be able to vacuum without electricity.

        • you're not entitled to a new game console every x years that plays used games

          In europe, perhaps you are:
          http://www.techspot.com/news/49263-eu-court-digitally-distri…

The rest of your arguments are reasonable.

        • +1

I have Netflix and I'm Australian.

        • Indeed, unblock.us isn't a difficult process.

        • Not that I use the 360 to do so. To watch netflix on it I need to set my console to USA and have been worried MS might ban me for it. Has anyone done this? has it been ok?

        • Can't see them banning you for it though I'm surprised Netflix didn't run an IP check like they do with the regular Netflix.

      • Many people in Australia use workarounds to get Netflix, that's not up for debate. It still doesn't change the fact that Netflix, as it is, is not available in Australia. You can import a 2013 Camaro from the USA if you want, but that doesn't mean its available in Australia.

        • Again, it's not available directly from the people who release the product.

Yes, you can get them if you jump through hoops - in the Camaros case I would say paying ~4x higher price than the car costs in the USA along with most likely a minimum of 6 months between order and arrival is jumping through hoops - but they are not available off the shelf from Chevy in Australia.

Also, did you even read my post? I specifically said you can import a Camaro from the USA, which is what those companies do. Just because there are ways to get it doesn't mean that you criticise a company that has nothing to do with that product for not allowing you to get the product that isn't officially available in your country.

What's next, you'll criticise Microsoft for not allowing the Xbox One to play PS2 games?

        • I'm not criticising anything. I'm just saying the world isn't as big as it once was. Having to pay more for an imported item is a given, that is the only hoop you need jump through. I know this as I have imported two vehicles in recent years. I couldn't give a toss what the Xbone can and can't do, I lost interest in the brand a long time ago.

PC isn't really a console is it.

    • +2

Much like Wii U isn't next-gen. It's Nintendo's incredibly late current gen console. Does it even have online? who knows!

      • +4

The reason Nintendo made more money out their console than Sony and Microsoft COMBINED is because people care more about game-play and lifestyle than graphics and bragging rights.

Honestly I can't really tell the difference in graphics between PC/PS3/XBOX 360, the Wii graphics are less flattering but the game play was always more exciting! Of course most people got one because it was a whole lot cheaper to buy and so it was only a matter of waiting until pay day rather than saving for a month or two (that is until current gen consoles hit $150-200 range).

        • +1

How many of those Wii's got played as often the Xboxs and PS3's though. Most people I know have one tucked away in a cupboard gathering dust.

        • +1

Yeah. The wii was very disappointing for me. The games were not all that good. Most of them are made for children.

        • +3

But your'e MacGyver…couldn't you just jimmy something up yourself?

  • +12

Are you basing 'wrong' and 'right' consoles on how popular they are? If so, that's the wrong way to go about it. You choose the console which appeals to you based on various factors (although the main factor should be the games they offer).

I'm pretty sure many people would go for a Wii U for both Mario Kart 8 as well as Super Smash Bros. Wii U. On the other hand, others will go for the Xbox One for their Halo fix.

Maybe do a bit of research on what games each console offers (especially their exclusives), and see which one appeals most to you.

Like for me, I don't regret getting a Wii at all, as I really liked quite a lot of their games (Xenoblade, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl etc.)

    • +3

Then again, if you and a group of friends decide to buy consoles and you're the only one with a different console then perhaps you might get left out of online gaming. I have a Wii and it's great for those little party games in the living room, but not so much for online gaming.

IMO main determinant of what is the best console is the actual library and selection of games that you have access to from owning that console. Case in point — the good games on Wii are usually RPG genres like Zelda and Mario, and the fps shooters are on Xbox / Ps3.

      • Mario is an rpg? Paper mario on wii is not an rpg and the other mario rpg games like mario and luigi and not on the wii.

        • I meant adventure/platformer.

  • +8

never miss out again, buy all of them!

    • especially when you get them at bargain price

      • It's a good idea to buy them all and then put it on ebay when you doesn't want it anymore.
Plus buy it at bargain price.
        :)

    Steambox?

    • I thought that got canned?

      • Nope. It is a bit like android there is no one set of hardware. It is pretty much just steam big picture mode on a dedicated PC. You can make it yourself if you like or buy something like the 'piston', which is the first announced version of this.

        • +1

We've heard lots of rumors about the Steam Box, including that Valve's own hardware would be "tightly controlled." Can you tell us more about Valve's own hardware effort?

The way we sort of think of it is sort of "Good, Better," or "Best." So, Good are like these very low-cost streaming solutions that you’re going to see that are using Miracast or Grid. I think we’re talking about in-home solutions where you’ve got low latency. "Better" is to have a dedicated CPU and GPU and that’s the one that’s going to be controlled. Not because our goal is to control it; it’s been surprisingly difficult when we say to people "don’t put an optical media drive in there" and they put an optical media drive in there and you’re like "that makes it hotter, that makes it more expensive, and it makes the box bigger." Go ahead. You can always sell the Best box, and those are just whatever those guys want to manufacture. [Valve's position is]: let's build a thing that’s quiet and focuses on high performance and appropriate form factors.

  • Not sure about this generation, but Xbox is really trying to integrate all their devices into their cloud network. This is evident from Windows 8 which is really trying to integrate skype/outlook/phones/tablets/pc. It's still not there at the moment, but maybe in the future, if they can flawleslly integrate all their devices/services, they could become a formidable competitor.

As for this generation, it really doesn't matter. If you're doing it for the games, go for PS. If you want a mixture of entertainment/media/games go with Xbox.

  • +7

Not sure how you could have gone wrong with PS3 or 360 this gen? Both threw out some great exclusive titles and shared the rest. For me the 360 was on top the first few years with Gears, Forza 3 and Halo 3. Then Uncharted, Gran Turismo, God Of War and PS Plus stole it for me

    • Don't forget Heavy Rain, Valkyria Chronicles, Journey, PixelJunk … anything, Demon's Souls, Little Big Planet 1 & 2, Flower, The Last of Us.

Just a few off the top of my head.

Oh, and can't forget Shadow of the Colossus HD. Awesome!

    • Completely agree, beakeroo. Xbox killed it in the beginning (due in no small part to it shipping a full year earlier than the PS3) but then as MS shifted focus to the (relatively shit) Kinect, Sony stole me away with its amazing exclusives. I own all three current gen consoles: Xbox as my play everything device and the PS3 and Wii as exclusive boxes. That's the way to do it I think.

      • +1

I actually do the opposite (XBox for exclusives, PS3 for everything else), but I completely agree with the message. If you had an Xbox or Ps3 you have had an excellent time so far, and many of the big must-play games were shared between the systems anyway.

    • I'm the opposite, 360 for everything and PS3 is only for exclusives. Any multi-console owner should really be the same if they genuinely only care about the games, as 90%+ of multi-console games are better on the 360 in one way or another overall.

Overall, the 360 still has around the same number of exclusives, if not more, than the PS3. I don't care when they were released, that doesn't make any difference.

For me, barely any PS3 exclusives actually even remotely interest me. For example I bought Journey and thought it was good but vastly overrated (people saying it brought them to tears for example), GT5 was a mess for the first 12 months and inferior in almost every way to Forza 4, God of War Ascension had no reason to exist and was just "meh", Twisted Metal was fun for a bit but after 3-4 days I had no desire to play anymore, and most of their other games like Heavy Rain, LBP, Beyond, and JRPGs just don't appeal to me in the slightest.

Each to their own though, just annoys me when people carry on and say the PS3 has better exclusives. It's entirely personal opinion. I'd rather have 1 game that I love than 100 that don't interest me, and that's pretty much been my experience with the 360 and PS3 over the last few years. Forza Horizon + Gears of War 3 and Judgement + Halo 4 + Rock Band 3 + Battlefield 3 are really the only games that I've gone back to more than once, and no amount of shovelware (IMO) exclusives will change that.

      • For me the best mixture is Steam/PS3. Steam carries many of the Xbox exclusives as well as the multiplatform games that in many cases run on better hardware (depending on your rig of course) and with superior game play at a fraction of the cost. Sony exclusives do not appear on Steam as often unless you count the indie titles.

For instance I recently bought L4D, L4D2, The Witcher 1 & 2 and CSGO for $25 all up. Every one of which are superior to the console versions in every way.

        • No doubt Steam is a huge plus for those that are able to afford a decent gaming PC. Not everyone can though, since a good GPU alone is going to set you back almost as much as the XB1/PS4.

I've got a GTX 570 and it does the job, but I'm more of a console player just for ease of use. Put game in, play at its best (read: only) settings by default, with my friends who mostly own 360s. Yes, I could play it with better graphics on my PC but until I get a Steambox, a PC isnt getting set up in my lounge room. When I get one of those, I dare say both the PS4 and XB1 will mainly be used for exclusives, and the XB1 for the big online multiplayer games like Titanfall and Battlefield 4 purely because thats where my friends will play them.

BTW the old "many Xbox exclusives are on PC" line is tired and not really true. Halo 3? Reach? ODST? Forza 2/3/4/Horizon? Gears 2/3/Judgement? Crackdown? There are dozens of AAA 360 exclusives that are not on PC, and usually they're the best ones.

        • For me gaming isn't done in the living room, I have the PC set up in my media room "reads: mancave" and I have a plasma just a few feet away so no biggy.

BTW, I think my wording 'many' was perfectly used. It's not like I said most or all now is it? As for Crackdown and ODST, I'd prefer to forget that I wasted good money on those two.

        • Fair enough on the PC, I'm actually in the process of converting my home-office into a home-office/game-room. Apple TV + XBMC will be all that's left in the lounge room by the time the XB1 and PS4 are out.

I would have used the word "some", not "many", but I guess that's just semantics.

Didn't like ODST? What in particular turned you off it? I personally thought it was a breath of fresh air for the series. The semi-open world combined with choosing which order you wanted to do missions in, along with actually having to think about battles instead of running in head first because your'e a super-soldier really gave it a different feel to Halo 1-3. That soundtrack as well…..fantastic.

Crackdown I can understand. I loved it, but I'm not a stickler for a good story in games - which is lucky, since there wasn't one in Crackdown haha. Gameplay trumps all for me, and I loved the huge open world with its verticality and orb hunting/upgrade system.

        • For me ODST was poor graphics, nothing new in terms of gameplay and a piss weak story. In relation to Halo 3 (I played 100 hours+ of H3) it was a PoS. It should have been released as a Halo 3 DLC, never deserved the full release status.

        • Each to their own and all that I guess haha.

I thought it was great fun, and I'm not anywhere near the biggest Halo fan. Could it have been DLC? Sure. But it would've been pretty much the biggest piece of DLC that a console game has ever had, so IMO releasing it as a half-price standalone game was fine.

  • You had an Atari XT? We only had a Sinclair ZX Spectrum! In some ways you bought the better systems, just not the more popular systems. I bet you went Beta instead of VHS?

    • I went HDDVD instead of BRD. I got out of it OK, sold it for the same $$ I picked it up for a couple of days later (after hearing about it being discontinued)

  • it really depends on which one you like and which games you prefer. As Ventak said above, i also really like my wii, i was disappointed that i missed out on a few of the big titles that i wanted to play but then again i wouldn't be able to live without zelda etc… Despite everyone saying that the wii u is terrible i will still be buying one when it gets cheaper!

  • +9

There is nothing wrong with the gamecube popularity is not a measure of how 'good' a console is

    • +5

I'll say. I thought the GameCube was brilliant. The controllers felt like everything was in the right place as soon as you picked it up. The size, appearance and build quality of the console was great. GPU power was at a stage were the cartoony graphics akin to Nintendo looks polished and near perfect (far more impressive than the "realistic" graphics of hard core genres of the time). Its as though Nintendo identified its limitations and stayed within them rather than strive to push above and deliver something the system couldn't produce. Then in turn more focus was on the actual gameplay.

  • +3

GameCube is the best console ever.

    • +1

yes, during that time, gamecube got the most powerful hardware…… no programmer knows how to deal with it till it fail…….. sadly

      • +2

Fwiw I also loved my GameCube but was disappointed with it after Xbox and ps2 took over came and they basically stopped releasing new games. It was a bit of an orphan release.

  • I'd wait before making a judgement as we STILL don't have enough information from either side. The big miss is from Xbox, and what their cloud/tv services will be like for Australians. Sure what they showed looks great….for the USA. I'm yet to see anything concrete about what they will offer down under.

PS4, sure big WOO YEAH NO DRM "win" is now passing, but they haven't exactly been crystal about what they are doing in that area.

If I had to recommend, enjoy your PS3 now and for the next year post next-gen launch as Sony is promising continued support, wait till the dust settles then decide what would be good for you.

    • You sound like a renounced xbot!

  • My thoughts..

Wii U: not quite next gen, great for first party games wii u/wii
Xbox One: I'd prefer to wait post launch and pick one up after more research
Ps4: throws money at screen not so happy about having to get ps plus, but for better online games I'll deal with it, plus most of my gaming friends are playstation 1st gamers and I like the detachable hdd

    • +2

most of my gaming friends are playstation 1st gamers

I think this is the clincher for what to buy if you're an online gamer. I for "one" will be buying the Xbox on launch, due to the fact that just about all of my gaming mates will also be buying an Xbox (and I'm awfully attached to my 40K Gamerscore). Because I love great games, and Sony will no doubt have some awesome exclusives coming, I am 100% certain I will buy a PS4 sometime after launch. (and 50% sure that I'll buy one before Christmas). If my mates were PS guys it would be the other way around.

Due to the aforementioned love of great games, I will absolutely end up buying a Wii U as well. When it's cheaper. And when it actually has something to play other than a re-regurgitated Mario side-scroller.

      • and I'm awfully attached to my 40K Gamerscore

I never understood this. A noteworthy point in your decision to spend hundreds of dollars on a gaming system is an imaginary pointless number?

        • I ditched my 50k account about 3 years ago. I'm very close to ditching my lvl 20 PSN account in favour of Steam. Trying to decide if there's room for both in my life.

        • Nothing wrong with not understanding gamer logic, have you never spent a night chasing a trophy that doesn't really matter….but does? Next time your on YouTube watch Kevin butlers E3 speech from years ago, funny but true

        • +1

I'm attached to it because it's essentially a record of all the games I've played on that console over the last 7 years.

When the consoles launch, the One and PS4 are going to be pretty much equivalent in terms of power and number of exclusive games. The only difference at launch really, I think, will be your preference of the exclusives, some services (which have become more similar with merging of the PSN multiplayer service in the paid PS+ subscription, and the fact that MS seems to be offering free games somewhat regularly on XBL now), how many of your friends own either console and any brand loyalty you might have. There are probably some other factors I've forgotten - but they probably aren't major.

So if all things are roughly equal, why not include your gamescore/trophy history in the equation?

  • You can't go wrong with Candy. All your friends will pick up Candy too, and you can have funsexyMMORPG times with them

  • Why so much hate for the wii u graphics are irrelevant nintendo first party titles will offer better gameplay and fun!

    • +1

I don't see any hate? Nintendo are just not what I think of when I think about next gen, they are an exception to the rule. Their hardware is never as good as the competition but their first party titles are just so playable.

    • +3

I had a wii and didnt like it at all. While graphics are not everything, they are also not nothing. Personally i have very little interest in any of the first party nintendo stuff and the 3rd party stuff was normally far better on another system.

If graphics were meaningless games like battlefield 3 would be just as good on lowest res and lowest details. Fact is they are far better with decent graphics, far more immersive.

    • +1

nintendo first party titles will offer better gameplay and fun!

      That's completely subjective.

  • Ps4 is smashing it! I had predicted a 50 50 split.

  • +7

Let us know when you decide… that way we'll know atleast one that we shouldn't get!

  • Very close call right now. Neither company is giving much away. I personally think the Xbox One will be the better console given the ability to do so much more than just play games. It's the future and love it or hate it, consoles are aiming to be the entertainment hub in your living room.
The main driver for my decision is the control pad and the online experience. The Xbox One controller is better in every single way and the online experience is far better than the PS network… I game online mainly so this is a must for me.

    • +3

What in particular did you like and dislike about the Xbone and PS4 controllers when you used them?

And how is 49 votes to 8 close? lol

      • +1

By close I mean in terms of features, games, specs, etc not some insignificant vote. Nobody has ever liked the gimped ps controller besides fanboys. They even made a 360 clone for the PS3! The sticks' throw is too short and in an unergonomic position, the controller is too small and light and the triggers are terrible in that they have little analog control. I'm not telling you to buy either console, make you're own mind up. You'll soon know whether you made the right or wrong choice.

        • "They" make lots of things. You know the definition of fanboy right? You seem to be falling into both categories.

        • How can you say the xbox one controller is better in every single way? You just compared it to the ps3 controller.

        • Mate, it's different next gen.
They've completely redesigned the dualshock controller.
I've read all these interviews and articles where devs praise the PS4's controller over the XB1's controller. and people who've used them at events really like it too.

I've yet to see anyone saying they've tried both and prefer the Xbone.
          (Though admittedly it looks nicer.)

Look at this comparison image with the old controller http://i.imgur.com/aS147t9.gif,
as can see the handles are bigger. You can grip it and because they're longer your thumbs naturally rest on the analog sticks.

        • The One controller will be better IMO purely because of the analogue stick placement. Having said that, I wish the One controller had gone the Wii U Pro controller route and put the right analogue stick up in the default position too.

Yes, the PS4 controller has undergone significant and long overdue changes, but it still doesn't look comfortable to me. I rarely use the dpad, as most games relegate it to options like weapon/item select, so I don't think it should be where it is.

That might change when I get one, but to me the 360 controller was perfection apart from the dpad, and the One controller improved that and added even more cool features. I don't think a track pad and different shaped handles are going to convince me that the DS4 is better.

      • +3

In my case, the sticks are set way too low. This is because the very first PSX had no analogue sticks and to one-up the N64, Sony just jerry-rigged two analogue sticks medial to the handles in the least ergonomic position. That's why to this day, the D-pads on playstation controllers occupy prime real estate when very few genres use it for primary input. It's a vestigial reminder of the controller's evolution but makes no sense in 2013.

The new controller looks a lot better than older dualshocks but who knows. If razer or someone else releases an xbox one style controller for the PS4,that'll be my ideal combo.

        • -1

I am with strand here. The PS controllers have always been erganomicly rubbish, maybe if you have tiny girl hands they are usable but for me they are super uncomfortable. My handspan is 275mm which is bigger than most but xbox controllers are fine for me and my kids.

The ps4 controller does look much bigger this time so they may have fixed it. Still think the left stick would be better swapped with the dpad but i cant see them changing that any time soon.

        • -2

I'm 6"3 and I have hands that are in ratio to my height. I've never had a problem with the PS controllers. I think it's a case of giving them a chance. I didn't like them at first after having a 360 for so long but nowadays I have no preference. I just bought another 360 controller for Steam and after not using one for a long time I disliked it's feel and the staggered sticks. After playing a couple of nights I'm very comfortable with the controller again.

        • Seriously negged for not liking a controller?
haha, i should have known saying something anti PS would earn me negs around here. I was joking with the "tiny girl hands" comment, calm down PS lovers i didnt insult your mother! :)

          @beakeroo
How does one establish a correct ratio for height to hand span? All i know is 275mm is on the larger end of the scale. I had a PS2, i have often used a PS3 and PS1 and always found the controllers uncomfortable, much like using a tiny mouse for long periods on a pc.
Xbox controllers on the other hand i have never had any trouble with. That doesn't make me some xbox lover, just a statement of fact. I have found many other (unbiased) people find the xbox controllers more comfortable as well. To be fair the orignal xbox controllers were too big for some people, great for me though.

If you need to know anything about the human body and average proportions perhaps you should try google or ask someone with more time to explain though this may help. <MOD: Personal attack removed>

How do you decide whether the (unbiased) people you asked which controller they preferred were in fact biased or not? You should step back and look at your posts before submitting them mate. I'm not saying one controller is better than the other, that's what I would call truly unbiased. You're just posting garbage and trying to add poor reasoning as fact.

How do i decide? Because they had both consoles but most of them preferred the xbox controller, none preferred the ps.

(presuming that everyone who doesn't dislike PS3 controllers have little girl hands?)

I didnt say or presume that. I jokingly suggested that you need tiny hands to hold the tiny controller.

Having an opinion that one controller is better than another is not a bias. Just like saying PS did a better job with their launch than MS, it is an opinion.

        • Take a naprogesic. We get it, you love Sony. It's fine, baaa baaaa. Go ahead and neg everyone who doesn't agree with you. It might help the butthurt.

You're clearly a fanboy. Just read your comments! Either way, it's you that resorts to attacking any and all who aren't Sony fans. Enjoy your crusade there, tiger.

        • -1

Yes, clearly a fanboy would say that the Xbox controller is as good as the Sony controller, he would also have owned a 360 for years, amassed a large achievement score, own a PS3 amassed a large trophy score, 2 x 3DS XL and now moved onto Steam and is currently enjoying that. Yes, you are a wise one, I am clearly the fanboy. You have a nice day champ.

Just get all of them (maybe not the Wii U). Can't understand why you wouldn't get an Xbox 360 when you already had a PS3, just makes no sense to me. They have different functions to me, so you need both for their different features.

Just like saying I already own a toaster, so I don't need to buy a kettle.

    • +7

Both of them have the primary function of playing games. Your analogy is bad and you should feel bad.

I think that the PS4 physically looks better, would have to muck around with the software on both consoles before deciding though.

  • buy them all, fixed.

  • Ask yourself a few questions…

    1. Are you using it for gaming only or need a media player?

    2. Are there specific games you prefer to play that have existed on only one console? (To me, PS=Grand Tourismo, XBox=Halo)

    3. Are you concerned with camera spies (as the rumours have it) on XB1?

Should answer your questions right there. If you're just after 3rd party games that are cross-ported to all consoles and PC, then get what you prefer to spend money on. It won't make a difference.

To me, I'd get a PS4 over a XB1 since I love the Grand Tourismo series. Saying that, I own a WiiU and a gaming PC that satisfies my urge to spend money.

You can always tell which console will be the popular one but there's nothing wrong with choosing 'losers.' I got way more out of my GCN than the xbox and ps2 combined.

I think the PS4 looks to have the most momentum going into this next gen. The xbox one brand has been dragged through the mud due to their amateurish messaging and very few 'gamers' care for Bing, Skype on their TV, intrusive Kinect, Windows OS, etc. But who knows, I never expected the PS3 to do as well as it did, considering that failure to launch. A couple good exclusives like Uncharted and deep price cuts turned it around for Sony.

I just read your full post OP and realized i owned the same consoles except for the the atari. We should be besties.

  • How about Oculus Rift? I don't think it would count as a console/next gen, but it certainly is a very interesting hardware.

    • The future of the OR depends on whether or not game developers will be bothered to implement code in their games to support the hardware. And it's not something the average gamer will buy into — it's mostly a toy for developers and power gamers.

  • Honestly, PC is the unbeatable gaming machine. Yes you should have gotten the Xbox over the PS however now times have changed. Unless Microsoft decides not to go ahead with their ultra greedy policy with the Xbox One, everybody will be converting over to the PS4.

    • Honestly, PC is the unbeatable gaming machine.

Honestly, did you even read the thread title? True story, not everyone wants to game on a PC…

      • PC gaming experience doesn't compare to console experience. There's a whole lot of games not even made for the PC.

          and vice versa

I have a feeling the PS4 will do substantially better than the xbox1. And this is coming from an xbox fan. Im getting a ps4 when the price drops to around 400$
